I don't race and do mostly long all day rides so I have set my Edge 510 up with a main summary page similar to Simon, but I also created specific pages for climbing and descending. My climbing page has speed, elevation, ascent, grade and power and my descending page just has speed and elevation which keeps it easier to read when hammering it downhill.
I'd suggest using the 3 second average on the power readout. Immediate power can be all over the place, especially if you have a one sided power meter. The 3 second average effectively normalises it, and only lowers the response to short sharp efforts very slightly.
After not feeling the need for cadence for a long time when I eventually got it I found it unexpectedly useful on climbs. So climbing screen has cadence to keep me spinning a lower gear uphill and resist the (slower) grind.
I like having a "summary" screen which is what I'll look at at the end of an interval or when I get a break. It's basically 10 metrics in one page. Right now it consists of odometer, elapsed time, avg cadence, avg HR, normalized power, avg speed, total ascent, total power (kj) temperature, and time of day.
I've recently changed how I have my screens set up. I have used my garmin 800 for 51.5 hours so far. Since it is relatively new I was making too many changes when trying to have multiple screens configured. What I ended up doing was making my first screen (The one you can't turn off) my junk data screen with all 10 fields. Sometimes I look at this screen while I'm moving but generally it is the one I look at when taking a break. Then I turn on 1 other screen depending on if I'm mountain biking, road biking, or my wife is using it on our local rail trail. My junk data screen consists of: Time of Day, Temp Avg Speed, Max Speed Tot Ascent, Tot Descent Calories, Avg HR Dist to Dest, Elapsed Time
Would having all the data screens on drawing the battery quicker? What would the best set up on a 1000 edge if you were out for 10-12 hours?....I can't imagine the battery holding out for that long!😀
Dan didn't use his Garmin so that he could know when he would have crosswinds - he used it to monitor temperatures to try and control his helmet-hair anxiety. Marginal gains.
Hey Guys, question: can you combine the navigation field with another field like power or lap time? Hardest for me on my 910xt and reason why i'm looking at an edge is that i'd like to know where i'm going (navigation) while doing interval (field like power or lap-time).
Does anybody know if it is possible to have both some basic data fields and maps (navigation - directions) in 1 display? Seems crucial to me...Much obliged for the help.
GoustiFruit VERY. Just returned from a 6 hr ride and I had the sun above me for the entire time. That's the main difference between the garmin and a mobile phone. Garmin is readable. I can even read the maps in my 1000

Hi, don't you think that for amateur riders cadence is an important piece of information? Lots of riders want to push to big a gear, cadence warns you about that? Just my 2cents.
David Churchill www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/08/display-number-garmin.html It only works on the 800, 810, and 1000 I think. I've done it on my 800 so I know it works. You can also create your own images and put them on there to use instead of the default ones they provide.
Noel O'Dwyer There were several other articles on that blog worth reading. There is a section dedicated to how to do things on the garmin 800. Not sure about the other models.

Ha - Loved the 'Bored Screen'. Interesting about the interval training - Cheers Si.
Perfect, thanks for the easy to follow video - will help me to set up my edge quickly.

Two videos in one day again?! Fug yeah!
trtjr22 three now, enjoy!
Thank you, you made it simple and I finally got my data fields working.

Hey dude I have the Nomad N4 cc now , and ............it sucks at climbing so don’t be tempted 🤣👍🏽
MY GARMIN LOOKS SO COOL NOW!!! THANKS GCN

The kilojoule is a unit of energy.
I always like to know my cadence. Keep the legs spinning rather than grinding

Ive never really felt the need to replace my Edge 200, basic yeah, but does I need it too. But the gadget freak in me would love a 1000 ****drools****
Please can you do the same but with a 500 and/or a 200? This would be a massive help!
I'm a lover of cadence.
You guys really push my buttons...
Which one do you recommend instant, 3s or 10s power on the data field?
Hi, is that style jersey available to buy?

Please, Please, Please can you guys cover more on Audax's and touring,

Total distance, time elapsed, elevation, and either distance to next turn, or cadence.
How readable is the screen on sunny conditions ?
GoustiFruit It's pretty good - you can adjust the brightness of the screen, although having it on max will reduce the battery life.
GoustiFruit Great, we've never had any problems.
GoustiFruit With the 810, the display is really good in direct sunlight. The backlight is only needed when it gets dark out.
GoustiFruit VERY. Just returned from a 6 hr ride and I had the sun above me for the entire time. That's the main difference between the garmin and a mobile phone. Garmin is readable. I can even read the maps in my 1000
Being late for work?? You guys work? I thought you guys are in permanent vacation, cycling and taking care of Matt.
Hy 1 question please, how i can change the current time on edge 1030?
How do you decide which garmin to use?
Random ' on the screen on the bottom of simons thumb at 0:40 haha
Oli Smee Great spot. Part of the text sliding across at the bottom. Someone hit the ` key above tab probably and didn't spot it mid-edit.
Anyone use the Garmin Fenix 3 for cycling?
I use repetitve fields on the same screen area on my Garmin Edge 500:
Top Left = Speed Top Right = Cadence
Followed by HR in second row
Bottom Left = Time Of Day Bottom Right = Distance
Mostly I use eight data fields (except the mask with HR Graph) - here they are (I do the layout in LibreOffice where all data fields are imported - right now without powermeter for pacing):
A
Speed Cadence
Heartrate Grade
Temperature Elevation
Time Of Day Distance
B
Speed Cadence
Heartrate Heading
Time Stopwatch Time elapsed
Time Of Day Distance
C
Speed Cadence
Heartrate Grade
Total Ascent * Elevation
Total Descent * Vertical Speed *
D
Speed Cadence
Heartrate Calories
HRReserve%avg GPS-Accuracy
HRReserve% HRMax%
E
HR Graph
Speed AVG Cadence AVG
Heartrate AVG HR Zone
Time Of Day Distance
F
Workout (4 Fields)
Speed LAP Cadence LAP
Heartrate LAP Time AVG LAP
Time LAP
Laps (#Finished) Distance LAP
After doing all of that, how do you change screens with your gloves on?

Igorfun Cadence is important for all levels of riders.
Awww i use the 520
how fix a eraticc speed jumps all around garmin1000
cool i am learning ... but where is the jokes ... lol
And how to set it to display your contact info in case you lose your Garmin?
