I really appreciate your recommendations. I’m starting book 4 of Shadows of the Apt and book 2 of the Faithful and the Fallen. I love the strong sense of characters who live by a moral code in both series.
Great video and you offered up a few suggestions I hadn't heard of before. Thank you! Would love to see someone take a stab at the full L E Modesitt Jr Magic of Recluce series. 23 books so far and a brand new book that has just come out. Best to be read in a chronological series order (after "The Magic of Recluce", rather than published order. We saw Raymond Feist at the Glasgow Waterstones about 10 years ago. Great guy, very willing to share his book ideas and future goals. He had to put up with a guy heckling him that he'd stolen a plot line from David Eddings! He was such a gent in dealing with him. Class act.
I know @bookendsandbiscuits has enjoyed some of The Magic of Recluse, I've not looked at it too much myself though - I can't honestly remember if there's a reason for that or not. Feist stealing from Eddings is a new one to me. Usually it's the crowd saying Feist stole from the Petal Throne RPG (I've never looked into this and have no input either way!)
@@dominishbooks Yep, I looked for the Magician audiobook, but could only find it split up into Apprentice and Master. I'm going to continue in a few weeks when my library hold for Master is available.
I loved the two series in The Banished Lands setting too. Brilliant characters, storytelling and emotional impact. The Black Coast is my current read (thanks to your previous recommendation). I'm nearly 60% through and loving it, particularly the clash of cultures as experienced by the various POVs. I agree about the massive battle chapter in The Wheel of Time finale. It was absolutely epic, with all the emotions. I've read and enjoyed Voice of War, so will be aiming to finish the Threadlight series soon. I'm also aiming to get to several other series on this list as I've got the books (Greatcoats, The Last War, Riyria Revelations, Shadows of the Apt) and they all appeal to me for the reasons you gave.
I think about Adrian Tchaikovsky, and I have myself, a friend, and three booktubers pointing to totally different books by him and saying 'this is why he's great' (I'm all about the uplifted spiders personally).
He's very versatile (and profilic). I agree, Children of Time was great (though I didn't enjoy the third book too much). Spiderlight is another fantasy (standalone) recommendation.
Solid list, Dom! I desperately want to get to Shadows of the Apt and Greatcoats. And yeeess, all the love for Threadlight, Faithful and the Fallen, and Riyria. Curious to see if any new series will make it onto the list this year, happy reading!
I hope you like them as much as I do! I'm also really intrigued to see what can fight for a place on this list. At the moment, I can't think of any likely candidates that are already complete, as I've already tried all the ones I think might make it!
📚 I was counting which of these I have as I watched… And it turns out I have most of these sat on my shelves! Not complete on some of the biggest (e.g. Jordan, Feist), but the only one not represented is “Greatcoats” by de Castell 🤔
@@dominishbooksDownloaded and read the Kindle sample of the Threadlight first book. I had never heard of this before, but am gonna definitely pick up copies of these. Looks VERY good! Thanks again for the recommendations!
I feel like a lot of bookish videos and posts (not yours) focus on click-baity negativity, so it was really nice listening to you talk so passionately about the books you love. A few of these series are ones I wasn't a fan of myself, but your enthusiasm made me wish I was and that's a huge thing! Still very excited to read my first John Gwynne. Also, you may have sold me on the Greatcoats, ahaha. I've wanted to reacd Shadows of the Apt for ages. Really need to get on that. o.o
Yeah, I see that too, but it's just not me. I refuse to even do "most disappointing books/series" videos or "series I won't finish" etc. as there's no need for that negativity on my channel. I'll always talk about books I DNF, but not in what I would say is a negative way.
I think there's room for stuff like that, but when it gets vitriolic (which it too often does), it starts to feel like engagement bait. D : Definitely love the more positive focus.@@dominishbooks
I really need to read Threadlight. Putting it on your top 10 is a big deal! It must be amazing. I'm glad i don't have to rank my favorite series in order. That would be too difficult. I don't even know if i can narrow it down to 10 series! Some of my favorites include: Outlander, Dresden Files, The Expanse, Malazan, First Law, Riftwar. I used to include Song of Ice and Fire, but I'm a little burned out. I'm sure I'm forgetting something important. And some of those series aren't fantasy. Lol
Have you gotten any farther in Green Rider??? I read the series last year and I love it. Book five was my least favorite, but I love the series and am patiently waiting for the next book.
I haven't, I stopped at book three because I think that's all that was available at the time. By the time book four came out, I wasn't really thinking about it much, so I never returned.

Awesome, what a pair of series to be in the middle of!

Riftwar has that nostalgia factor for me too, glad to see it here!
I'm finally going to try the Empire trilogy this year to get back to Midkemia (well, Kelewan, I guess).
didn't know Shadows of the Apt was so high .. now really looking forward to starting it this year!! great list my friend!
Yep, I've loved that series since I first started reading it. It's just so inventive.
I guessed 7/10 ill take it . ❤
The Faithful and the Fallen is absolutely my number 1! I am currently reading The Great Coats and loving it as well :).
Excellent choices!
I just read Magician: Apprentice and I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it!
Excellent. You doing it as a four-book trilogy then - you have plans to continue, I assume?

Clearly I recommend them, because they're on my top ten list, but those are four cracking series you have on your TBR then!
So I was right. I am intrigued by the new favorite series that you put on the list.
Good guessing - you should have tried to get a few more of them for the Patron giveaway!

I don't know if it's your style or not, but Traitor's Blade is relatively small, so Greatcoats remains a recommendation!
Thanks for the List! It really helps find new things!
I hope you find something new to enjoy!

Library looks good. Best wishes to you and your channel.
Thank you!
I love The Greatcoats series!! It's in my top 10 as well.
I'll get to the new books at some point, I just don't know when!
So before I watch the video I assume The Faithful and the Faillen series is number 1. Let's see if I am right.....

Yep, Threadlight was a joy. A Song of Ice and Fire could definitely challenge for a place on this list, if it ever gets concluded.
I was not expecting Riyria to be so high on your list!
Why not? It's a great series!
@@dominishbooks It is, I just didn't realize you were so high on it. Specifically, I thought you liked The Greatcoats more.
I’ve read all but the second last one! And I haven’t finished riftwar!
What are your thoughts on them?
We named our puppy after Storm from F&F!
It's a versatile name as well.
