I was thrilled, watching this video! I am a full-busted, post-menopausal woman too, and completely appreciate "feeling like a blob" (great illustration!)
I found the pattern adjustment demonstration fascinating and empowering. Kate is brilliant! So are you, Karen, to find that expertise, figure out a way to collaborate remotely, and show us all!
The coat will be amazing - I wonder whether you will really want the lapels on the final coat, and if so, how you will do them, since they flip to show the inside.
Thanks so much for this, ladies! Awesome job.

I always made a muslin trial garment from the tissue pieces to work out the necessary adjustments since one side of my body differs from the other. Then I’d cut that apart to create my pattern pieces. I find that easier than adjusting tissue ones, get a more true fit.

When I do this, or even just a straight forward sew, I trace my pattern size onto tissue paper. Tape pieces togeather if necessary. With multi-size patterns, you can trace what you need and save the original, main, multi-size printed pattern for use with multiple children or for growth. Especially good for group projects like bridal wear, theatrical/stage costumes or uniforms. Patterns have become SOOO expensive. Learning to trace and alter the design of classic shapes for a complete wardrobe will save your sanity. Remember those complete wardrobe packages ? Great idea ! !When you achieve your perfect correct fit pattern you can transfer that to heavier paper or poster board for multi useage. I started doing tracing to alter 60 years ago, back when patterns were sold by single sizes. Slacks/shorts, blouses/tops, sheath/shirtwaist dresses, were all up or down sized, by drafting, for relatives and friends. You can do amazing things with flairing, narrowing, collars, ruffles etc. etc.

Wow and good for you! I have several things by palmer pletsch, their books are great. I also have that same cutting mat on my sewing table.

Karen, Loved this vedio, Thank you so much for the inspiration & bravery for putting yourself on display. A quilted coat is on my list to do. Due to age & size (4'9") purchased clothes are usually altered, So I usually make my own. I am looking for a Princess coat style again(my High School senior project was a princess coat 55 yrs. ago) & I forgot why. Looking forward to watching you complete your quilted coat. I love to Quilt also. Thanks again, Rachenea Eagle

A very informative process and I’ll have to get her book. I have the opposite bust problem! I “assist” my 25 yo granddaughter to make her elaborate cosplay costumes (in between quilt projects) and I’m sure there are tricks we can use! Thanks for again making my fabric world better. 🤗🤗

Great content. I'm checking out her RUclips channel too! It is huge to have her help to fit. I wonder if anything will need more adjusting based on the thickness of the quilted fabric. Also good info about your getting more healthy plan. It too takes some courage. I look forward to the next step of your jacket.

I WANT to be able to sew clothing, but I have always been a quilter. I cannot profess to be a sewist who has general knowledge of many sewing techniques for many different kinds of sewing. There's something about sewing a three dimensional piece that terrifies me, lol. I should take classes... there's no reason I can't learn, right?! Karen, the muslin piece looks fabulous on you, and I'm excited to see the finished result!!
