Shadow is working so hard to bring sticks and it looks like a lot are falling. It is difficult on my phone to tell the Eagles apart, but I love watching and learning about them. May God watch over them and bless them.
Is the male trying to attract a mistress to a new nest? Does he associate negativity to the old nest? Is this a move to an new chapter? Is this simply a new day nest? Is this a place to eat fish with a view?
Stick #6 made my heart drop when I was watching live this morning 😱 I saw him slip and kind of hit the tree and I panicked for him (forgetting he's a bird and can fly 🤣) Love watching J & S as much as I can. Thank you Cali Condor for the great videos!❤

Shadow is definitely a busy feather butt, but this is his forte. He's a professional nest contractor extraordinaire, and Jackie appreciates every single contribution. Most likely Fiona's housewarming gifts too lol

When Shadow was at the nest, it sounded like Jackie was communicating with him. Maybe Jackie was saying, "You're at the wrong tree, get to work on the new nest" 😂

Shadow’s been trying to start a nest there, probably since before we could watch him do it. It’s his hobby, I think. And then in Oct-Nov, he has a lovely stick depot supply for the egg nest.❤️🦅🦅
Now “ THAT’S” teamwork! 😄👍. God love their busy hearts! It’s fascinating to watch them at work, & their God -Given Knowledge of what to do! I’m excited to see their final results of this! I’m mesmerized by their beauty & determination to accomplish taking care of themselves, & each other! How many of those 17 sticks actually stayed on the tree? It isn't surprising that they all wouldn't "stick" but at that rate it will take a lot of work to build a nest. Their behavior, as always, is so interesting. Thank you for sharing this activity with us, Cali.

I know this has been asked, Cali or even Sandy, but do you think shadows trying to build a new nest in the snag Depot tree? And I see some comments where they are concerned about that tree being dead. And concerns about if they do build a new nest there will the friends of big Bear Valley put cameras on that one as well? I know nobody knows for sure because animals will do what they do. But being that this is my first year, watching, y’all have a lot more experience with this than I do. And I sure would like your opinions on what you think they’re up to what this may mean for the future of us being able to see these magnificent birds in the future! So if any of you who are experienced in, this would try to shed some light on this for us, we would be grateful! Thank you again,Cali! you’re the best!

Perhaps they are building a nest as a Parent's Sanctuary or a place that subadult offspring can move to as they separate from their parents? Since I have never seen a bald eagle build a nest in a tree from its inception I am so happy to see this endeavor happen. I would imagine that every gigantic nest starts with a lot of falling sticks while trying to assemble the bottom frame. It makes perfect sense. Once they get the bottom portion to lock in then building upon that will get easier. Good job, S & J!!!

This tree looks like it is even more open to the elements than previous nesting tree. The wind and piles of snow were unbelievable. And Jackie trying to protect her eggs while literally being blanketed in snow. New nesting spot seems very odd to me....Cali, can u offer any explanation...

Like most here, I wish that at least one of the eggs would've been viable. Shadow is a great provider & was a loving daddy to Spirit!!! I think, I'm no expert, that he's bored & needs to keep himself busy. Breaks my heart when it seems like he's still looking for the eggs 😞 Hopefully next time!!!! 🙏🙏🥚🥚🦅🦅❤️❤️

I think Jackie was asking him "What are you up to at the nest?" He sure is determined to try to build another one, but… sadly… it's a poor choice. Not enough base, and no canopy overhead, just a great view!
I don't know if anyone has asked this but after two years of infertile eggs, what are the chances that they can produce a fertile egg in the future?

Hypothetical question: What would happen if J&S had 2 viable nests in the same territory and Jackie managed to lay egg(s) in each nest? If that were to happen would they only concentrate on just the 1 nest or try to care for the egg(s) in both nests?

I haven’t heard about it happening at any other nest. Usually, the nesting site selection process begins very early in the season. By the time it’s time to lay eggs they are focused on one selected nest.
