Games tend to typically hold their heads when doing 2 player splitscreen, 3 & 4 player splitscreen is what's actually intensive on the hardware and is where most games either struggle/or have to cut back.

BenjerminGaye That statement was more in general but okay. Point is Omega Collection has so much overhead in it's performance as seen by its flawless performance, 2-player working well doesn't come as much of a surprise.
Wipeout HD had issues running in single player, then imagine how much more evident and bigger those issues would be in multiplayer. Shit would be jumpy has hell which is why the devs made the smart choice to cap it to 30.
it's a technical showcase and also a collection done right. The price is fine, the quality is great, what else could you ask for?

I love this collection. Worth its weight in gold, jaw-dropping in 4K resolution, love the controls, soundtrack, etc.
4k , 60FPS and HDR , truly a joy to play and to watch.
this is such an awesome upgrade. i played this shit out of 2048 on the vita... brings back memories. i will definitely pick this up for ps4 pro.
played it last night and was just mesmurized by the tracks in 2048, all the tracks in this game feel so alive. your so focused on the racing, but you will notice the little details that you find on every corner. Theres so much going on in the background, but its not too distracting. I love the tracks in this game. :)

I'm impressed of how well the PS3 version holds up even today on such old hardware the game manage to run at 1080p 60fps
I finally picked this up long overdue for my recently acquired PS5 and I am simply blown away. The fidelity along with the incredible sense of speed make it one of the most impressive games I’ve seen personally. It looks good enough to be a native PS5 app. and the gameplay is amazing to go along with the insane technical prowess.
Some of the former Wipeout developers recently released a new Wipeout-style game called Formula Fusion. It seems to have no marketing budget or word of mouth interest so far, but who knows maybe it will spring to life in the near future?

I'm late to the party, but I'll mention that Formula Fusion was lacklustre at launch, and is being reworked right now under the new name of 'Pacer'. That aside, if you want something truly Wipeout in every way, get BallisticNG, which is genuinely right up with the absolute best of Wipeout. It's amazing.
I remember playing the demo for this back on PS1.. Can't wait for this to come out.

Umm, RUclips added HDR support back in November last year. And I can confirm this because when I open an HDR video on my LG TV, it always displays the TV's HDR icon on the top right corner of the screen.
In this case I think they just don't have the capture cards to record it. The only channel I know of with HDR game clips is The HDR Channel, and I have no idea how their method differs from what everyone else is doing.
I assumed the built in recording feature would just crush the tops and bottoms of the luminance range to convert to sRGB, like it does when you take screenshots of HDR games on PS4 Pro. For some reason I've never tried recording a video clip to see if it preserves the HDR data. But if it does preserve all the data? Then it solves that issue!
I think there's different types of HDR
that's your tv. It's not gonna show on monitors.
Ryan Good what LG TV do you have that can display RUclips HDR? Thought only Samsung TVs and Chromecast could do that. I have an OLED 55C6P.
It could have been fun if you took it a step further, since Wipeout HD is actually a remaster of Wipeout pure and Pulse for the PSP. That would be an even starker comparison lol

Still thought some tracks in the PSP games would have been cool in the HD version... Maybe there is room for the Omega Collection to grow?
VariantAEC all tracks from pulse are in Wipeout HD. A few from pure. HD is made of from those tracks and the same vehicles. The omega collection has all tracks from HD, fury and 2048 if I'm not mistaken.

I'm playing this right now with a Pro hocked up to a 65inch C6V OLED TV and this game offers one of the best image quality i have seen so far and HDR really makes a difference too! And most important its a fun game of couse :3
Thanks for the well done review video. An amazing, amazing, amazing racing experience that shouldn't be missed by anyone with a PS4 and especially PS4 Pro. Also impressive is the very fair price point; only 40 bucks for the compilation. I was so happy to see this game released because like so many other fans, we thought 2008 was the last Wipeout we'd ever see. I'm really hoping the studios responsible for this awesome remaster will consider a Wipeout VR title in the future. How awesome would THAT be?

Man, when you get to zone 50+ and you're flying around the track, is such an adrenaline rush!
Have anyone here seeing all clip before judging it? Even it is old games but dev did rework a lot from lightning system, Shadow cast on every objects, to all texture quality, even add more feature such as Ambient Occlusion, screenspace reflection.
With almost everything like that, it looks amazing when you actually play it. And the blast improvement also very clear when comparing to ps3 and ps vita version.
So it is amazing to see it run stunning in 4K 60fps even in Splitscreen mode. Also remember that WipeOut Omega Collection is a fast to super fast pace game. It will need a nice streamline in everything to run this smoothly. So it is a praise for this dev to optimize very well and still, deliver a very great works in remaking this game.
Luckly framedrops on the Vita aren't that common compared to PS3, looks like the dynamic resolution does it's job better.
Still playing 2048 on my Vita, yes it feels different because of the 30fps but not bad still like it a lot and back then it showed what VIta could do and who knows if Vita succeed more in the west maybe we would get games that would look even better.
Will I buy the Omega collection on the PS4? Yes because I never had Wipeout HD Fury, but even then for on the go I keep my 2048 on the Vita.

The PS4 Wipeout Collection is also native HDR coded... running on a PS4 Pro on a Sony Bravia X900H at 4K HDR 60fps is just breathtakingly awesome and makes you wonder what would happen if Sony would pull more games from the PSP, PS-Vita, PS1, PS2 and PS3 into either the PS4 Pro or PS5 with this or better style effort would just make a killer lineup for the 3d graphics games alone.

I mean, I own a PS4, but I'll be the first to admit that this isn't a particularly demanding game. Still some very impressive optimization though! I'll be picking it up
Mr Doodleydoo that is the point, they are not pricing the 4k 60fps game on console, it is the fact that they really worked hard.
It's a SUPER simple game. It was EXACTLY the same last gen. The only visually impressive PoS3 game was wipeout because it was basically going around a simple texture track with nothing else going on. Actual real games, like Assasins Creed or Battlefront etc won't have this level of graphics on PoS4. Everything else was a jaggy 30fps ( at best ) ugly texture clusterfuck. Xbox360 dominated in every way, but $ony bought the media and skewered the sales results along with shills like DF overplaying the capabilities of there machines. This might MIGHT be actual real 4k at 60fps, but it will be the first an LAST game on PoS4 that will do this. Everything else is going to look pretty damn weak, ESPECIALLY when next to a TRUE gaming machine like the Scorpio.

Beautiful game! I loved the original Wipeout on PS1, and this could pretty much be the last word in Wipeout...but I hope there is more to come.

The jump from Vita to PRO is a TRUE generational leap, something we don't see very often these days (looking at you, Tekken)

Prince Dizzy I never really played a fat lot of wipeout In my PS1 days so I might pick this up. Though I did severely frapp F Zero X and Extreme G.
METR0lD your are 1000% correct. BUT this looks great and well we are getting a re-release that runs as everyone wants on PS4 and PS4 pro (yay everyone wins!). If Nintendo never re-releases F-Zero GX they should stop making consoles. And yes I'm dead serious and I own a Switch.
I actually found that in elimination mode in either HD or Fury, if you turn around and shoot rockets at your opponents the game drops a bunch of FPS briefly
This gives me hope for some games running at 4k 60fps on Scorpio. The slightly better cpu, huge gpu upgrade and massive RAM upgrade will surely help.
This is how you do a proper remake. This is not just a remaster anymore. I have to buy this as soon as I can.

Oh gawd this looks incredible!! I never were able to play wipeout but hell i'm picking it right now. On PC, Redout is the platform best wipeout racer but compared to THE wipeout - it cannot even compare.
are people not paying attention..horizion zero dawn was checkerboard 4k..digital foundry said unless u are close to screen pixel counting..u can't tell difference in checkerboard 4k and native 4k
And? They stated this is native 4K with no checker boarding, unless you had another point to prove

This game is so much fun. The OG versions were and the ones on Pro are both great games.
4k60 splitscreen is impressive. Just played the PS3 version few weeks ago and splitscreen felt like it was running sub 30fps. It was a sharp contrast to the single player. Curious if the dynamic framebuffer was even engaging or just stayed at half horizontal resolution.
for a console that has been marketed as a 4k machine its nice to see at least 1 game that's actually native 4k for once.

got this on ps4 pro with Samsung ks7000 game is simply stunning if you want to show of your ps4 pro this and zero dawn are the games you need.
Zero Dawn is good, but once I saw that water is fake and has no interaction with the player or things walking through it, I couldn't unsee it.

I am quite pleased with my PS4(Not Pro),but even I know that PS4 Pro is no match for a modern gaming PC's.
Scorpio isn't even out yet.
I have little to no doubt that Naughty Dog will create another technological masterpiece,that perhaps may even be a match for many,maybe even most PC games(on a Pro),but it will certainly not destroy them.
You missed a major opportunity: many of the tracks in Wipeout HD got their start on the PSP. Make that comparison.

It's the Wipeout series I couldn't hate it if I tried. It outdoes itself on every platform it debuts on even the handhelds with Wipeout Pure on the PSP and Wipeout 2048 on the Vita. Getting this at 4K 60 FPS I don't care whether anyone considers it impressive or not it doesn't change the fact these are truly awesome games. It really says a lot that even against a 4K model with re-done textures 2048 looks amazing on the Vita. Really great review Tom.
Also got to give a shout out to my personal favourite Wipeout Pulse too.

It's not a last gen game at its core, it is even older.
Wipeout HD was basicly a remaster of Wipeout Pulse which had been released for the PSP first (and later on the PS2 as well), and even the PSP managed to run the game on 60 fps (!),
sure, a lot of the assetts got reworked since then but still worth mentioning, imo.

Hey, why didnt you guys show comparison from the PSP games??? Wipeout HD Fury was basically HD versions of the PSP games.
I love my ps4, love my switch, and I love my PC. My nephews love their Xbox one and I love playing it with them. Why does their have to be so much fighting about what's better. Truly none of the options are bad. Some are just more suited to others needs. Not everything has to be for you.

Just a shame a lot of effects seem to be missing. 2048 is missing all of the smoke trails for the ships and hd is missing weapon effects. For example: triple rockets, instead of leaving some long lasting smoke effects they are now replaced by a flash that disappears really quickly (true for a lot of weapons). Personally i would have much rather seen them implement the dynamic resolution rather than have these effects removed complitely.

I feel like the differences between PS4 and vita are hard to see with this game because my TV screen is 80 inches and my vita screen is only 5. And its also running at double the framerate and 16x the resolution which makes it harder to deliver a hug3 graphical leap
They could have gotten rid of the labels and I wouldn't know the difference. Still impressive that you can play split screen in 4k 60 fps though...

Should have used the hd fury expansion for 2048 on the vita for comparison so you could compare all three versions properly. Since the ps3 doesn't have 2048

Because of myopia I figure I will skip on PSVR for now... and so I was considering then just buying a stock PS4 to be able to experience WipEout Omega Collection (I'm a huge fan who played 2097 & Wip3Out Special Edition to hell and back). Or do you think PS4 Pro is worth the upgrade? I'll want to pretty much buy PS4 for this game alone... and my TV is a 1080p TV anyway. Hence I'm wondering if the 100 € extra for the pro makes a significant difference?

It may run at 4K with antialiasing, but I don't personally feel the game looks good.
The lack of any material-based lighting, overuse of bloom and overly simple environments make it look like a PS2 era game with high resolution and texture work.
PLEASE : MADE A VIDEO OF BATTLEBORN ! It was patch to run at 60FPS against 30 at his launch, this game is amazing. Halo Wars 1 and 2 too.

Pspro is still running 1080p textures yes the resolution is nice but 4k resolution and textures are where you see a huge difference scorpio will be able tp push native 4k with 4k textures
