its my first wipeout. looking back at it the biggest flaw of it is its track selection. 10. the dlcs felt to disconnected from the main game since it only adds a different game within a game. It should have gotten at least 16 tracks minimum ngl. Its quiet a shame. AG Racer is my favorite gaming genre, yet there hasnt been a game where I really feel like "THIS" takes the crown. WipEout 2048 is awesome when it comes to ships, immersive gameplay experience music and visuals but lags content. Redout 2 is awesome when it comes to controls and visuals, but is incredible unfriendly towards casual players with its overly exhausting track design. BallisticNG has everything but nothing really shines for me.
@@philipp_mn You make some solid points. I wouldn't call Wipeout 2048 a DLC though since it is its own game. HD/Fury was for example DLC for 2048 on the PS Vita :) I agree with your assessment of Redout 2 and BallisticNG though. Thanks a lot for taking your time to write a comment!
What makes this game fun for me from a """lore nerd""" perspective is that this is quite literally the birth of a sport that is 160+ years old at the time of HD/Fury/Pulse, despite it being formally announced in 2044, if I recall.
I also think it was a great decision to make a prequel. When comparing the settings and surroundings in HD and 2048 you can really see that one is far more futuristic so I really think they nailed it from that perspective.
i enjoy how the devs paid attention to detail. the scale of racing in 2048 is much smaller than the other games. screenshots from hd showcase just how massive the ships are compared to the size of a person. Here in 2048 they feel much more grounded in reality and more realistic -fitting inside existing car lanes- its fantastic visual storytelling.
@nym5qu17 In that regard, it mirrors a similar case to F1. Cars have gotten bigger over time, whereas they were pretty small way back when. This would be a similar case, 2048 was just the beginning with its equivalent to the first F1 racers, while HD/Fury shows us the advanced race craft of 2207 and beyond.
2048 was my favorite part of The Omega Collection. Maybe it was because I played so much of Wipeout HD that it was nice to have a game that was fresh to me because I never played 2048 on the PS Vita. I loved the tracks. Some of those A+ Challenges are really difficult. I still haven’t passed all of them. I would love to see what could be done with Wipeout on the PS5. I hope it happens someday.
If you missed the Vita version, I'm sure you had a blast when 2048 came with Omega Collection! The tracks are great and yes, the A+ challenges are extremely challenging. We'll keep our fingers crossed for a sequel, I have my hopes up since I think the Wipeout IP is strong enough to warrant a new game in the series.
I just randomly came to your channel after seeing another RUclipsr talking about a certain anti gravity racing game which I'm glad to join your channel at the perfect time because on may 2022 I bought a bunch of antigravity racing games on steam and I never regret it. Now I haven't finished them yet but I do enjoy them a lot and plan on playing them again. Also I played wipeout omega collection on ps5 and I had a lot of fun.
Glad to hear my videos are being suggested from other sources! Also very happy to hear you are enjoying the AG racers you bought. Chances are I've made videos about at least a couple of them :) Thank you for checking out my content!
2048 is a solid edition to the Wipeout series, but my heart will always be with the 3 PS1 titles + Wipeout 64. I'm old school Wipeout I guess. I've probably put in 4000 laps between all 4 titles and will put in 4000 more before I die. Love the channel AGRC! So glad to see someone explore this underrated niche in video game racing.
Thanks a lot! I'm very happy that I can contribute something to the community. I also grew up with the PS1-titles but I'd say that Wipeout HD and 2048 of course are great evolutions of the genre. I suppose that BallisticNG is the perfect game for you to grind your teeth in but something tells me that you've already done that :)
I played all WipEout series but 2048 remains my favourite. From the opening credits to the wider gritty tracks and on Vita, the sound of the engines is just fantastic. This ups the whole experience, which makes the other HD entries falling a little flat on this aspect. And then came the VR experience!! OMG. 🤩
I completely forgot to mention the intro to the game in this video. That intro definitely deserves a shout-out. I also completely agree with what you say, 2048 has a lot of great parts that makes it maybe the best complete package in the series.
Pure on the PSP is probably my fav Wipeout purely^^ because of nostalgia, but 2048 is a close second. It was cutting edge back in 2012 on the Vita, in 2017 in 4k 60FPS on Ps4 Pro and in 2018 in VR. Excellent stuff. Such a shame Studio Liverpool is no more.
I agree, 2048 was a great title on the PS Vita but the PS4-version is obviously superior, especially considering the higher fps. Wipeout Pure is obviously great to but did you try Pulse as well? It's very similar but they added the grid campaign so it's a ton more enjoyable to grind through the game.
@@AGRacingCentral Yeah I played Pulse, but Pure on PSP in 2005 was my first Wipeout and why I love the series. I still have that old PSP, I should pick it up again for a few rounds sometime.
The game you are referring to is probably either Wipeout Pure or Pulse. They are both great experience even by todays standard but Pulse might be the better pick because of the campaign grid that was absent in Pure. 2048 for the Vita is also an awesome game but the PS4-version is obviously superior if you aren't on the go, especially thanks to the 60 fps upgrade. I really enjoyed my time with 2048 on Omega Collection- it did a great job presenting an entirely new wipEout experience, the presentation was absolutely gorgeous, and the prototype ships are all extremely fun to play around with. That said, I think the progression system was actually my biggest issue with the game- I set out to rank up enough to unlock the Pir-Hana prototype, but I didn't have enough XP to do so even after elite-passing literally every other event in the game. As a side note, playing wipEout Fusion again for the first time in a while has given me a new appreciation for the skill cuts in this game. Fusion's skill cuts are cool in their own right and some are really hard to find, but most of them are a bit jank and require you to open a door that actually never had collision, or boost over a pit where falling may or may not be faster than the main route regardless.
Since I haven't completed all A+ challenges myself, I actually wasn't aware of that problem, that's a bit of a miss for sure. I can see why you think so if you are coming from the "F-Zero spectrum" of AG racing. The crafts are more glued to the track in those games and can feel a bit more snappy to control. I'd say that once you get over the initial barriers, the Wipeout controls feel really exact and intuitive too.
As much as I love the more modern versions of Wipeout I still don't think they can match the atmosphere of W1 and especially W 2097. There was something about those darkly lit night tracks esp in 2097, the thumping 90s dance music and that robotic sounding voiceover that made it such an unbelievable visceral experience that I didnt get the same feeling playing following games of the series.
If you play the old games today, it's very clear that the look and feel is slightly different even though the series has retained its core concept over the years. Chances are you already know about it but BallisticNG is a game that captures a lot of what was special about the early Wipeout games.

Thanks a lot! You should play some more 2048 :) And as has already been mentioned, you can play it on Omega Collection. I'd say the PS Vita version is playable too for sure but it is with both lower resolution and frame rate.
remember when we thought Wipeout 2048 was somewhat realistic? now that it's 2024 it seems just pure fantasy that in 24 years we could attain this kind of technology.
Yup, I would agree :) I guess it all comes down to that an "anti gravity engine" doesn't really make sense from a physical standpoint. We are esentially doing the same thing now with propeller driven drones and VTOL-vehicles. I really like how the setting and surroundings of Wipeout 2048 looks similar to cities of today though!
I liked the new gameplay ideas, and the Sol track is excellent. Overall it felt less like a Wipeout game and more like a generic "Playstation Studios" game. To be clear I'm not a hardcore Wipeout fan, my first introduction to the series was Pure+Pulse on PSP
They did break the mold of the other games, that's for sure. Even though I can definitely see what you mean, I was happy to explore an era not seen in the franchise before. Thanks a lot for your comment!
Heres the thinf though, it kinda screws up the storyline in a few places... Mirage was meant to be responsible for MagLock technology(i.e. making tracks work against gravity too, somrthing you see in WipEout pulse and HD). But in 2048 there's maglovk, and Mirage was made during the events of WipEout Pulse. Undeniably, though, its a great game. Its just foreshadowes by the Psvita's somewhat mediocre success.
I believe there's actually a few blurbs you can find on the news tickers on one of the courses that sorta addresses this. IIRC, Mag-Lock was actually quite dangerous at this point in the timeline, and was banned between 2048 and Pulse.
Can't think of a prequel that hasn't created a plot hole or two :) I have read through all the lore on the wiki page but I actually missed this inconsistency, thank you for pointing it out. And I agree, it's a great game!
the only thing that sucks about this game is the differing firepower stat. Having each team do the exact same amount of damage with difference in shield is much more balanced than some craft just straight up hitting harder than others.
I see what you mean. A Firepower stat is also a bit redundant if there's also a shield stat. I guess they wanted to add a new parameter for the game and to differentiate the different classes from each other. I would have to say though that seeing a higher firepower stat might make people want to pick the fighter ships for regular races.
I just don’t understand why Racebox wasn’t included. Without it I didn’t have much reason to come back to the game once I beat the campaign and HD/Fury DLC campaigns
That's a good point. It's a great thing they added it in Omega Collection at least. Also nice to hear that Wipeout 2048 brings back nostalgic memories for you as well :) It was such a great launch title for the Vita.
@@AGRacingCentral Yeah, I just wish Omega kept the original ship sounds for 2048. But other than that it’s damn-near perfect. As for nostalgia, yup, the demo was one of the first Vita games I ever played back in 2012 as a kid haha

I see what you mean and I respect that some people prefer HD. When I play online I lean more towards HD too, it's more clean somehow, and the ship meta isn't all over the place like in 2048. I do like much of the direction they took the series in though. I hope they implement more of it in a potential new game.
I don't know if you own a PS4 but if you do, Omega Collection is well worth picking up. The 2048 version there is far superior with sharper graphics and 60 fps.
2048 was definitely a great game to end the series on. Now maybe it wasn't perfect, I do think the ship balancing was really bad and there was a LOT of grinding (probably because they wanted you to play the online co-op) but regardless the races are super fun like they always were. I've spent probably dozens of hours on A+ races alone
I agree with you regarding the ship balancing. It was a good idea on paper and it is fun to mess around with different ships but only a few of them are viable for top level gameplay. It was the right decision to increase the experience gain in the PS4 version to give players the option of not having to play online. And yes, I've also spent a lot of time on the A+ challenges, those bad boys are extremely challenging :)
@@AGRacingCentral '-that is usually what prequels ar-'. ah, no no. Not just in That part (the '2048' installment) of this sci-fi franchise's. I was also referring to everywhere else of the wipeout franchise's.... (at least when it comes to the Lore/surface level story-focused side of the wipeout franchise's anyways).
I think you're right. It's definitely one of the most up and coming AG racers in the F-Zero spectrum of things. I'll make sure to plan some content, thanks for the tip!
The ship design is certainly different and I guess I can see how people can feel they took it a bit too far off the beaten path. I didn't play Pure all that much since I thought Pulse was the better single player experience but I've seen the comment before regarding the physics in that game. Thank you for your comment!
@@AGRacingCentral When you have a perfect flawless round in Pure, it felt earned. I bought Pulse before Pure and spend alot more time in Pulse... So much time I was for a short time in the Top 10 on Moa Therma White with a Feisar ship, between all the Piranhas haha. But Pure, hard to describe. Every mistake is super hard punhished. And the Ships have some weight. Like taking a hairpin with every Team is a complete different experience. :D Hairpin with Feisar feels like a rally car. Harimau is more a drifter. Piranha is a muscle car.
Of course it's my opinion, I hope I made that clear in the video. I'd say that the Wipeout franchise deviated from the gameplay of the original trilogy with the release of Wipeout Fusion. Wipeout 2048 definitely lacks a lot of game physics from the games of the PS1 era but in this video I make a case for why I think it was the perfect continuation of the series. If people want an experience similar to the first three games they should definitely do what you suggested and play BallisticNG :) Thank you for your comment!
Wipeout Pulse is an amazing title. 2048 is certainly different but I think the series took some steps in the right direction. But then again, it might not have been what everybody wanted from a new Wipeout release.

And yes, I've also spent a lot of time on the A+ challenges, those bad boys are extremely challenging :)
yes. Lore-wise. (01:52).
Yes, that is usually what prequels are :)
You should cover Aero GPX
I think you're right. It's definitely one of the most up and coming AG racers in the F-Zero spectrum of things. I'll make sure to plan some content, thanks for the tip!
The ship design is on thr weaker side. Gameplay is perfect.
Personal I wish we get a another game from the FX300 League. Prefer this type of physics.
Hairpin with Feisar feels like a rally car.
Harimau is more a drifter.
Piranha is a muscle car.
Sorry but the statement is only your opinion. 2048 lacks a lot of essential game physics and looks of the original wipeout series. Play BallisticNG
Didn't like 2048 that much cus Wipeout Pulse set the bar high . That game was just too good for it's time
Wipeout Pulse is an amazing title. 2048 is certainly different but I think the series took some steps in the right direction. But then again, it might not have been what everybody wanted from a new Wipeout release.
