I've known Vince for over 40 years. We met is Saratoga Springs, N. Y. and now he's my neighbor in Florida. He plays in my Lakewood Ranch Wind Ensemble. I just love the guy. I brought him down to our local senior center and we played together in our dixie band. The folks loved him. It's funny, I'll open my front door to check the weather and I hear this great trumpet playing across the pond. His attitude is a great model for me at 82. I consider him one of my teachers along with my dad. Be well! Joe Maciariello Miller.
Vinnie is SO real... I love him! I met him a thousand years ago while I was playing in the second DePaul University Jazz band, as a returning adult. Brad Goode was there finishing his studies and leading the second band along side the late Charles Argersinger. They brought Vince in and we played a concert at Andy's Jazz Club here in Chicago. Vince was so friendly and exciting to be around. Then I played with him again while I was in the British style Illinois Brass Band. We did a concert at Northern Illinois University with Vince, Mark Ponzo and a cat from Australia. That concert was a gas!!! Thanks again for doing this but now you need to tape parts three, four and beyond!!!!
Thanks for doing these videos, guys! I really appreciate the way that this doesn’t just sound like someone standing up there giving a stuffy one-sided lecture about trumpet. The stories and banter make it feel like we’re all just hanging out together sharing (well…except me) valuable knowledge about trumpet and perhaps even more importantly, about life and being human. It’s real. I hope Vince publishes his book! Thanks again!
I think it depends on how good of shape you're in at 75 and being a lead player...Lynn Nicholson is 71 and can still play higher and louder than anybody, but, Lynn's also in excellent physical shape...I think that's the key...that and also making things more efficient as we get older, work smarter not harder...Bill Chase talked about that also...
Still loving that Chicago Benge 2324 Vince. And btw, Don Ellis played at my high school in 1972 :) Great interview.

Totally with you Glenn-He's forgotten more than most trumpeters will ever know!

Thx for being here with us Steve. Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching! We'll definitely be asking Vince back when he releases his book. It sounds like he's getting close with a publisher.
Thanks for doing this interview guys. This is great perspective from a real pro. I particularly like the volunteering and senior center angle.
Glad you enjoyed it!
