The support I got from the Simple Tool group was amazing. They stuck with me trying to help me figure out my problem. What I discovered was it had nothing to do with their amazing system or tools, but in fact my lazy tool rest that was loosing and causing the catches. Again I am a huge fan of not only these tools and system, but extremely impressed of their support team and their willingness to help.
I’m a relativity new turner and I love your tools! They make it easier and allow me to do more especially in my beginning stages. I just received the hollowing system and it’s fantastic! Thanks for great videos and superb 20:16 tools.
I've had this rig for a little over a year and Love it! Just took it over to a friends house and turned a smaller vessel on a 3520 with great ease. I use mine on a 14-40 Delta and a Delta 46-460 Midi. it adjusts very easily and performs well. Money well spent in my eyes !
The hollowing system works well for me. I just ordered the 5/8” adapter so I can use a few other tools I have on hand. I was so happy to see it. I have a Jet 1220 lathe.
hi Kerry I have your wood turning tools and the hollowing system and I love it. it is a great tool and at a great price. now all we need is a coring jig. thanks for the videos Bob
For the most part, I am an HSS tool guy ... but I love my Simple Hollower system! I have used it on a Delta midi, my Nova 2024, and a Powermatic 3520b at our woodturning studio. Terrific fit and finish, and it performs as well as systems costing twice as much. I already had a laser from another manufacturer that I adapted to the Simple Hollower, and added a TV camera/monitor.
I like how simple you make it look , but is what I really like is the tool rack that’s a great idea and that would leave my wall space for something else that I don’t use that often and don’t need to stretch trying to get it all the time. The hollowing system does look very interesting, and the question I have for you is after using the system for a period of time does it help you learn proper tool placement so you can use your other tools ?
Thanks for the video but I see nothing to justify $450+ when i can do this easily with a bowl gouge and more quickly I think. I would however be interested to know how deep one can go with such a system I'm thinking up to 16 - 18" hollowing out tall vases.
Thanks for letting me know about the video, it is a very good video. I got my Simple Hollowing system early Sept. and I just love it. I use it on a Grizzly and a small Jet. It’s a fine system Thanks. Ernie
So I'm A bowl turning Noob and am having a blast with my Simple Hollowing system, I am experiencing a chatter as i move out to the edge of the bowl that i can not seem to stop causing a ton of sanding. is it speed technique or both? any ideas? i start with the 90 deg detailer . and I cant seem to get a good cut from the Sheer cutter. I am clearly not using the tool correctly...any ideas? thanks
Used the system for the1st time. Hollowing out a 6” dia bowl using the STH tool at 1100 RPM and had 2 very hard catches. Tool was on center of the bowl. Both catches were just were the wall met the bottom. More towards the bottom center about 1/16 away from the radius of the side wall and bowl bottom. Any suggestions or ideas on what is going wrong?
Increasing the spindle speed to around 2,000 for this size bowl will help a lot. Most catches happen when the lathe is running too slow. Another good practice is to try not to recut chips. When the cutter is near the inside corner chips can become trapped causing the cutter to cut on the bottom and side at the same time. The result can be chatter and catches. Also, moving the tool across the bottom then up the wall is usually the best direction for tool travel. Hope that helps.
I'm looking at getting a system but your doing a bowl not really hollowing your not extended out far like if you were doing a vase or something can it do something like that ?
Kerry, what is the purpose of the large hole (4th from the end) on the side of the short front section? Is the base plate (the part that holds the 3/4" rod) large enough for a Powermatic 3520B?
Hi Julian, In this video I'm using one of the original prototype hollowing systems. That hole was intended for another type of guide. However, I never developed that guide and so the hole is no longer there on the models were shipping now. I guess I need to update my hollowing system to the current version. If you can tell me the width of the ways and the distance between them on your Powermatic I will let you know if the system will fit. Thanks, Kerry
now hold on a minute. at 8 minutes "it's getting a little "chattery". better move the tool rest in. now suppose that's a hollow form. ya follow. this is a "hollowing system". almost pulled the trigger today. thanks for clearing that up
In the case of a hollow form vessel where the tool rest cannot be moved in the tool of choice would be the Simple Shear Cutting Finisher, not the 90 Degree Detailer shown in the video. The SSCF tool has a 5/8 shaft and a cutter that makes a shearing cut. That combination makes it ideal for hollowing inside a closed vessel as the tool extends a long way beyond the tool rest and chatter can be and issue if scraping tools are used.
thank you for the reply. have been over a year trying to decide between "jamieson style" system or articulating style like yours. back leaning towards your system via the response. have used your 4 piece carbide general turning set for over a year and like it
If you decide to purchase our hollowing system you can do so with complete confidence because if you're not completely satisfied you can return it for a full refund. So there's no worries at all when purchasing from Harrison Specialties.

Thank you, Ron, for your kind words. It's great to hear everything's working as expected. Happy turning!

Thank you Robert. It's so nice to hear it's working well on those different lathes.

How about doing a video or plans on that awesome tool holder?

Someone told me no deeper than 4 inches, which would really suck and make the expense even sillier.
@@TerrapinCreations666 I go way deeper than that. You’re right, 4” would be a waste.
Thanks for letting me know about the video, it is a very good video. I got my Simple Hollowing system early Sept. and I just love it. I use it on a Grizzly and a small Jet. It’s a fine system Thanks. Ernie
You're welcome Ernest. Glad to hear you like the video & hollowing system.
Can I work the outside of the bowl with this system

Yes, it's perfect for vases and other hollow forms. The full size tools allow hollowing to 9" deep. The 16" SSCF tool allows a depth of 12".

width is 8" and distance in between is 2 1/2".
how much is the system with the laser and the tools
That depends on what tools you purchase. Here's a link to it on our website - www.simplewoodturningtools.com/collections/simple-hollowing-system
How do I get pricing for your systems

How deep can this go?
That's covered in my new video here - studio.ruclips.net/user/videoBNKBeX9ZI_Q/edit
