I did my best with capturing footage of the TVs themselves, but these things are quite a challenge to film. The bloom and brightness is something I can't do much about. But hey... you gotta see a CRT in person to truly understand how good they can look anyway, so go grab one!

Very clean and simple introduction video to CRTs. It's good to see you hit on the shoddiness of those VHS combo units. You absolutely hit the point that these sets should be used with 6th generation consoles and below. The editing and games you chose really show that. Too many people on RUclips recommend those cheap chines hdmi2av adapters.

That 27” Trinitron is nice, looks like it has low hours. I recently picked up a 27” Trinitron(the model previous to the one you have). I’m a big fan of Sony TV’s myself, I have over 10 Sony CRTs. XBR’s are my favourite.

@@gamingtv394 Sure! There's all sorts of things you can try to fix CRT issues.
Mine PROBABLY needs new flyback transformer. But I have fixed others in the past with toothpicks lodged in the right spots to stop vibration, etc.

Outstanding takes. I once had a Sony KV-32FV300 and felt like a king until I had a chance to snag a 27" Panasonic Gaoo. I couldn't justify 2 TVs that size and for me I chose the Gaoo. It's been several years since I made the swap and honestly I still don't have any regrets. I've had several CRTs over the years, including Toshiba A series, JVC D-series, and Sony Trinitrons, and to me I prefer the Panasonic most. I still need to get my hands on a curved Sony XBR, Toshiba's Cinema Series, or RCA's Home Theatre series.

I'm a Sony fan myself, but yes, the Panasonics I've seen are really nice too! I find each CRT has it's own things to love! Toshiba was the king to me for a LONG time!

I had to get rid of my Crt Tvs years ago, only have so much space for myself and my collection.
I have really been meaning to work out what device I want to get to make them look better on the flat screen I have, haha another thing in the mountain of gamer things to do! XD
Having said that though I don't really notice too much wrong in screen images and details so maybe not worth it for me? unsure Tbh.

Awesome video and great work capturing all that b-roll! I have a little 13" JVC for retro consoles but my most used set is my 30" widescreen Philips that's my main display for PS4 and movies. A lot of people don't realize how good modern games can look on CRT when set up properly!

Great work. Love to see some CRT info. As a person who has gone through many crts I landed on CRT pc monitors as my go to. They're smaller and easy to move around. Take VGA and sometimes BNC and many of them can do over 1080p so you can upscale if you wanted. The biggest downside is they don't have built in audio options so you're required to route your audio to another source.

I got an old panasonic that survived the great CRT purge when my family switched over to regular hdmi TV's and while it only has a single video and audio input for my retro games, it holds up pretty well. Even has a vhs player built into it so i can watch those if i ever decide to.

Solid video. I completely agree that people should choose a CRT that is best for their needs and that they shouldn't just pick the most sought after models just because they're popular. I like how you pointed out that rf and composite can look great on small CRTs as that has been my experience. Some of my favorite CRTs that I've owned (I've owned about 100 CRTs over the past decade) have been 13" and 20" rf only sets. RF looks especially great on 80s CRTs. I currently own several higher end standard def consumer CRTs between 20" and 27" but I also own some mid tier 13" sets. Sometimes, when I want to do some retro gaming on a CRT, I just want to use one of my 13" sets on my desk. There's something about gaming on a small CRT that I find really cool and I can get nearly as much joy gaming on a smaller set versus a larger one. That and I really like that the smaller sets take up very little space and are easy to carry around.

I got a free 36" Toshiba recently with component, s-video, composite and RF. I had to do a LOT of adjustment, and it nearly killed me, and the two other people it took to get up the stairs. It was totally worth it though. If you have never played Super Monkey Ball one for the Gamecube on a CRT through component, or at all, you should.

I appreciate videos like this. I mean yeah, I was incredibly-lucky to have found an NEC XM2960 in the Orlando region 13.5 years ago off Craigslist for a mere $50. Yet now, despite the inputs and such offered, I honestly don't need something THAT fancy. I'd honestly step down to a freebie Compaq MV920 I got in Tampa 7 years ago with a decent linedoubler for retro stuff (anything sub-VGA horizontal scan), and then use it with all my DOS/Win9x machines. As far as other CRTs I want to keep, I have all my Commodore ones (1702, Philips and Daewoo-made 1084 series units), and a really nice RCA Dimensia 27" floor console (which has a peculiar port I hope to mod to accept SCART-RGB input). Other than those and needing to make whatever repairs are needed, I just want to stop CRT hunting, and just start getting back to enjoying games as I remembered.

Just out of curiosity, does your toshiba handle well with vertical linearity? I mean its quite visble on the footage, but directly it might look different. I recently got my 15 inch flat toshiba with s-video and rgb scart (greetings from PAL btw), its just awesome, the picture is superneat, the only problem - its vertical linearity. And unfortunatky the OSD in service menu is crappy and doesnt allow to fix that parameter, maybe theres some sort of a potentiometer on the chasis that fixes it but im not a tech guy to go in there and risk my crt and my life. Furtunately my main cause of getting this model is 3d 5th gen (ps1,n64m saturn) since the composite with the toshiba's slot mask (provides extra blending) is a perfect combo and linearity isnt a big issue in these games, for all 2d games from nes up to 2d ps1/saturn i use scart rgb on my flat trinitrons since these composite interferences are unbearable in 2d.

I haven't had any issues like that with it, nope. The only issue I ever had with it was poor geometry, which was fixed through a toke adjustment, service menu adjustments, and installing some extra convergence strips.

As someone that has used a 9 inch CRT projector on a 130 inch screen for close to two decades i can say that size IS important, and with RGB it doesn't look like shit either.
