In my area of the USA (NW Ohio), rust gets to a lot of vehicles. It's very true what the technician said about it looking worse than it actually is. There are plenty of cars that are perfectly safe and drivable around here that would be pulled off the road in the drier states because they don't see it very often and panic when a car gets a little scaly. I worked as a technician for a chain of used car lots that has locations all over the eastern US. We sold an older pickup truck to a nice man who had a problem with it down in Georgia somewhere and took it to our closest lot to him to get it fixed. The technician down there flipped out over some frame scale and surface rust on the driveshaft and tried to tell the owner the truck "was unsafe". The owner was from our area and knew better. He brought us a video the technician took of the underside of the vehicle and all the "serious concerns" he had. We all had a good laugh about it.

I owned a ap1 s2000 same as yours for about 3 years as my daily everyday car. It sucked as a daily but I drove that car far, through the worst roads and once through a flood. I loved driving it and I didn't care that I couldn't put anything in it or take more than one person in it. The car ended up in gran caneria and I miss it everyday. I have a civic ek now and it gives me nothing but memories of the fury that little f20c had. Not the fastest cars in the world but drive it on the edge for 5 minutes on the right road and let it show you what it's about.

i have been commenting for years on your videos about how wrong you are about the s2k ! mine has a lightened flywheel, competition clutch, k&n intake and js exhaust. few other bits and bobs but that transforms it into a totally different car. so glad you got one ! :D also that ticking is the timing chain tensioner, extremely common to go wrong on them
Great bargain project car you got there. I bought a 2007 at auction 5-6 years ago. Awesome car!!! I'd go facelift bumper, 17inch oem wheels, full service/chain tensioner kit, respray valve cover and brakes of course. you'll have a pukka little motor to cruise in or rip about on track days like I do.
I had an 06 petrol civic for 9 years. It did 160k miles with just new struts and springs and 1 clutch needed. When I sold it it still drove and pulled fantastic. Never broke down or failed an MOT in my ownership then purchased a few year old diesel civic and it needed £12k in repairs all engine and turbo in 18months. Stick to the petrols 😂
Very good buy I used raptor truck bed coating on the underneath and all inside the arches on my mk1 focus rs ! Sticks like shit and its solid !! No rust comes through But clean the underside up best you can do then spray it all over
Love these, went to buy one about 15 years ago only to find I was too big! I just didn’t have the leg room and couldn’t get my legs under the steering wheel 🤣🤣. Great car all the same, looking forward to seeing what you do with it Alex.

I absolutely love mine, such a great car, I regretted selling the first one I bought so much I had to buy another. They are generally really easy to work on as well, so long as things come apart as they are meant to haha!
Man I am so excited to see this project come together
I can’t believe you were legit right near my office! So gutted I didn’t know!!
The S2000 will always be one of my dream car. Glad that you got one.
I’m liking the new channel Alex and please to a proper re build on this S2000.
Will love to see the full rebuild!
Love the red Civic S Mk2 at the back there. Had an 83 model in the same colour. Memories! 🥰
Such a nice project car with not a ton of work needed, this will be a fun one to follow.
That noise is just the timing chain tensioner. It's a 15-30 minute replacement. You don't need to change the timing chain!
that gran prix white S2000 ultimate edition looks SUPERB!!
Damn good buy alex, these fetch good money as you have stated, and there going up in value fast this will be a great project .
Welcome to the ownership my s2000 had some rust issues too! its for grater good !
Honda check, full restore potential check if you want to do it. I am glued to the updates mate😁 Been a Honda fan for a while now. Even my driving instructor car is a Honda hehe😁
very exited if this becomes a new serie!
7 grand? I wish! They're not anywhere near that price in the states! Good on ya! If they were that affordable here, I'd have 4! Haha! Thanks Alex! Been loving your personal content!
Love it, happy for you mate!
I went to my school prom in a silver S2000 last year, Ive dreamt of owning one since I was about 10. Can’t wait to see what you do with this one
I would love that Mk1 Civic in the background !
What a fun project , why being at Honda hq I was lovely stopping the Hondas from the E to the mark 1 and mark 3 civics , great to see them
Love the red Gen 2 civic in the background!
Amazing deal congratulations on the car one of my favourite cars
7:28 ... looks more like a Helmholtz resonator to me to eliminate some resonance in the exhaust system.
Awsome buy!! Congrats!! Now it’s time to dig in!!
Isn't it a great time to let Ethan learn how to change a timing chain?😅
Spend the money and bring her back to life. It's a hell of a car. Your lucky to have one. In Ireland, there are 3 for sale and starting at 15k 😭 would love one
Ł2000! You got a steal! And I thought I bought my rough one cheap, but that's next level. It also says something about market in LHD part of Europe where a nice RHD S2000 can cost half of a bottom of the market LHD S2000
Wow. Was expecting way worse. Well done Alex. Looks like you my have bagged a bargain there. I will wait till the final verdict tho as any thing could happen yet.
Love these. Getting rare now; you don’t see many in the wild these days.
As a design they’ve aged well to my eyes and they’re dinky compared to modern cars.
I like how alex has slowly gotten better at buying lemons over the years
With all these new friends in the garage, Phil is going to kick the crap out of you man
John really knows his stuff. To be fair.
I get the feeling I’m gonna like this build, saying that I like all your videos so I’ll look forward to it anyway 👌
I’ve been tracking an S2000 for the past 5 years. They’re amazing cars, very reliable. The fact you got one for $2k is crazy. Even with the US filler conversion.
These cars go for $10-35k in the Us
$10k for a salvaged title. And hell, some (low mileage CRs) have eclipsed $100k.
Absolutely cannot wait to see the rebuild of this!
Alex I know Euro cars are where your heart is but please do a full build on this!
i have been commenting for years on your videos about how wrong you are about the s2k ! mine has a lightened flywheel, competition clutch, k&n intake and js exhaust. few other bits and bobs but that transforms it into a totally different car. so glad you got one !
An S2000 for 2K pounds? I thought I was going to watch a video of a car without an engine.
i thought it was going to be a literal shell but damn, boi i was wrong
Haven’t watched it yet. Was this an honest anonymous buy or was he offered it by a ‘friend/viewer’?
@@LCOF It sat for several years outside, needs work, seems legit.
3:09 Speaking of BMW and rust on S2000: E39 is your source of wheel arch repair panel.
I loved mine. Do the exhaust mod, makes it sound great without the drone you can get with after market. 8mm pipe bridge on the back boxes.
Very good buy
I used raptor truck bed coating on the underneath and all inside the arches on my mk1 focus rs !
Sticks like shit and its solid !! No rust comes through
But clean the underside up best you can do then spray it all over
Alex, videos about buying cars now, for cheap, for a future retirement plan ? how to store and maintain, rent costs etc Future classics for under $XXX
100% do a full rebuild on this please. Would be epic.
Love these, went to buy one about 15 years ago only to find I was too big! I just didn’t have the leg room and couldn’t get my legs under the steering wheel 🤣🤣. Great car all the same, looking forward to seeing what you do with it Alex.
