Sea-Doo Replace Ignition Coil - Grey Ghost Resurrection

In this video I replace the ignition coil on a 97.5 GSXL. The coil was actually fine, but i replaced it anyway to rule out an issue i'm having. I also check the charging system.

I have the same exact ski with the white motor not the silver one. It starts fine out of the water but the second I put it in the water it won't start. New motor new Reed valves new CDI I'm stumped, do you have any suggestions?

Need that idle to be up around 3000 rpms on the trailer. Make sure your compression is 130psi too.

A Bad coil would make a motor to take time to start up ?

No, a bad coil would run erratic or not at all. If you motor takes a long time to start it's starving for fuel. Use the choke or accelerator pump. I often pour a little gas in the spark holes to save wear and tear on the starter and flywheel. Better than cranking a long rime

Hi Jon, I followed your gray ghost build and have the same Ski. I followed your jetting when I rebuilt my carbs last week. Other than leaning your low speed screws a little do you feel the jetting was right on? Any updates on this build? Thanks

I've been chasing another issue I think is electrical making it tough to troubleshoot. It was running very rough last year. That said I do think the combo of jets, springs, and speed screws is a solid starting point. I confirmed that with a few others. Some go a little richer ..but with other mods like proc filters etc. While the L is a little more IN, that's not leaner since I used larger jets. It's actually richer in the end. I hope to return to troubleshooting this one this fall. I will say, when it does want to run, it's very powerful and fast topend

Does it matter which way you install spark plug to coil?

Not on the single coil. Both high intensity wires from coil secondary discharge at the same time. It's called wasteful spark since only one of the two wires is sparking when a piston is TDC. Iow, you can swap coil wires with cylinders and it won't matter
