I have 2 pulley pullers, 1 big 1 small, it’s rusted on and they won’t even get it to budge. Tried pry bars, applied WD-40 first thing. Been using an air powered impact, not sure what to do from here. But if there’s a will, by god there’s a way.
@@MarshallBLewis the way I got the one off I was mentioning in the comments is just working with it for 30 minutes till I finally got it to budge then it was butter from then on out.
i am putting alternator on other side of motor and using air conditioner pulley on the motor to drive it, it wouldn't budge so here i am, looks like the little bolt on end is anticlockwise.
@@MarshallBLewis Exactly, the vice grip is on the socket and not on any part of the alternator so there will be no marks made on any part of the alternator as @eduardodaquiljr9637 said...simple, ain't it?
Is this the bosch alternator for a benz? I am trying to figure out how to get mine off it looks very similar. Basically the 22mm nut goes counter clockwise and the m10 spline inside goes clockwise correct?
I've got a 22mm 1/2" drive socket and a 10mm 1/2" drive socket. Problem is I cannot get the 10mm drive socket through the 1/2" to hold the stator while torquing it. What do you have here, a 3/4" drive 22mm and a 10mm center?
@@rodboijones7390 Actually, since I posted 45 min ago, I looked at this further to understand it better, and I am considering trying a 24mm box wrench, and an M10 spline tool with a 3/8" drive with the alternator on the car. I only have about 1-3/4" clearance but that might be enough if I can position the wrenches appropriately. My situation is I put in a new alternator, whose pulley needs a 1/16" shim to align with the other pulleys, and didn't appreciate this until completely reassembled.
i suspect he used the impact driver wrench right next to this scene on the right. Loosened it first and then for the video used these hand tools with ease
Idk what just happened right there but you made it look easy 😂😂
I rebuild alternators for a living and I’ve ran into the biggest SOB of a pulley yet. It’s like rust welded on it feels like man lol
I have a powermaster alt, only 10 yrs old, went from a 50a to a 75a, did it in the vice, total sucsess. Thank you.
@@DeanDavidson-b2r I am glad to hear that 😊
You helped me alot. Thanks.

you should make a video of how you figure that out cause the rusty stuck ones are what people need the help with not the easy peasy ones
@@MarshallBLewis I’ll try one day once I figure it out myself. Doesn’t mean it’ll work for everyone. I rebuild alternators and starters for a living

Whats the symptoms of a bad alternator pulley?

Using locking plier will make bites or scratches to metal surface of parts,is there no other tools we can use instead of locking plier?
And exactly where do you see that he used locking pliers on any part?

Looks lIke his was as Allen wrench. I have the same issue. Did you ever find a way to do it . If you did I’d like to know how
Looks like he is using a torx or something similar, not a socket in the middle.
can this be done with it on the car still?
Si
You would have to find a way to hold the pulley from turning
@@donmoore7785 gotcha yea its kinda impossible to do while still on the car. I ended up just replacing it.
