I feel in some ways that is why the support is tricking through, that the goal while being a defeat of Russia is being managed to keep it controlled.
Perhaps for fear of what a more chaotic collapse of power in Russia may lead to, and perhaps why there is more concern from the west about Ukraine taking back Crimea, which if Putin truly has any "red lines" to prompt a serious escalation, it will be that.

Overall, Russian war capacity has expanded. They now have a year of military training in all high schools. The BRICS alliances are stronger not weaker. The notion of a long war to degrade Russia (as put forth clearly by Lloyd Austin) is based on fundamentally flawed assumptions.

@@j7j7j7j7x They have learned some lessons, but not others.
Repeated mobilisations for cannon fodder is where the capacity is coming from.
The alliances are out of desperation more than anything else, or being convenient. Too many ideological differences, rather it is all about what the members get out of it, and it will fall apart once those needs are no longer met.
There were failed assumptions, but its ability to sustain this is weakened significantly.

Regarding the short-comings of the Western aid program - something i don't hear talked about because it assumes a different framing of the conflict: Ukraine's short-term interests are served by a speedy resolution to the conflict while minimizing Ukrainian casualties. The West can facilitate this, if it so chooses. The problem with this approach is that it does not necessarily sufficiently degrade the Russian capacity to wage war - it may not bleed them enough of men and materiel. The other part of the problem is that rapid Ukrainian gains, as we saw around Kharkiv last year, risk provoking a panicked and unpredictable response from Russia. For over a year now, Ukraine has been supported (just enough) to halt Russia's advances and to gradually reverse the war's trajectory while simultaneously allowing for the strengthening of NATO defenses across Europe. Ukraine's bleeding is terrible, but it's not the sole factor to be considered.

Or maybe the politicians want to make sure their voters can stomach the costs and also have enough equipment to defend their own territory.
There is also a problem of training and knowing the equipment is used in an effective and trustworthy way. There were reports of hand held anti tank weapons being sold off the black market for example.
The west can be critiqued but it it’s is 99.9% on the heads of the Russian Duma that there has been so much death, destruction and horror.
