Min Orkizesai Vre Pseftra - Greek Song

- Arrangement, vocals and video by Farya Faraji. Another clip I filmed during my trip in Greece in May, with one of the shots belonging to my earlier trip in October. I've been holding on to this arrangement since April of 2020, given that it's one of my favourite Greek songs, and I wanted to wait until I could film a proper clip for it in the country itself. The filming locations span the eastern and central Peloponnese: from the Argolides to the southernmost tip of continental Greece: cape Tainaron in Deep Mani.
Min Orkizesai Vre Pseftra is a rembetiko song, with the earliest recording of it that I know of dating back to 1936. Rembetiko is a term grouping different forms of urban Greek music, often of the poor and lower classes, with themes about love, despair, sadness, and drug usage. Many Rembetiko songs originate in the Greek communities of Anatolia before the population exchange of the previous century; I haven't managed to find any info when it comes to the specific origin of this song, so if any of my knowledgeable Greek viewers could let us know, that would be great.
With this specific arrangement, I slightly changed the melody--the original wanders between what we could call the Phrygian and Dorian modes in Western terminology, but this one changes the cadences (ending of the melody) to the Aeolian and Dorian modes--this was originally a mistake on my end when I originally arranged the song back in April of 2020, but I liked the song nonetheless so I stuck with it. All the instruments are traditional: bouzouki, saz, pontic lyra, violin, oud and kanun, and were played in the heyday of the Rembetiko era.
English translation:
Don't swear, you liar
And don't come here and cry,
Ah!..ah!..ah!...I heard you the other day,
Giving oaths to somebody else,
Ah!..ah!..ah!... Even if your eyes
Give me a look
Ah!..ah!..ah!...
They look from their colour, that they are full of lies!
Ah!..ah!..ah!...They look from their colour, that they are full of lies! Видеоклипы

You know my culture and heritage like no other. I'm always left dumbfounded of the depths of your love for Greece (Ελλαδα). Above all, your sensitive and talented soul greatly honors my culture as everything you produce is at the same time authentic and uniquely beautifully enhanced. Listening to your beautiful rendition is like being submerged in the beautiful crystal water 💦 in the Aegean, you feature in your video. Refreshing and soothing all at once. I'll say it again: I swear you have a Greek soul.
@@miastupid7911 Thank you so much Mia. I deeply adore Greece, and I'm really happy to have support from the Hellenes themselves :)
@@nothet I don’t see myself ever stopping, it really is one of the most wonderful musical cultures and most people unfortunately don’t know about it, the general idea being that it’s all the Zorba song lol, but there’s so much to it

Absolutely lovely. I had eye surgery this past year and could not read books or screens and dove into all types of music and fell in LOVE with Rembetiko music. I just today discovered your videos... amazing. What a journey you are on. Very best to you, Maureen M.
Give this man Greek citizenship as an act of honor respect
First we have to see him dance
And drink!
Farya, son of souvlaki the skald. You do no wrong. The delivery is faultless, certainly a song I'm sharing with Greek friends and storing in my playlists. Easily you're the best content creator on this platform I've come across in the last five years and I'm constantly anxious for what comes next, music or otherwise. You deliver yet again.
Thanks my man, I hope my father Souvlaki is finally proud of me in tzatziki heaven
@@faryafaraji 😂, nice work again. When me and my friend where on a individual tour with a guide in Istanbul recently, we showed her you channel and she's going to show people in their tours some of your work for some ambiance to start off with!

I want to tell you, as a Greek person, your music is special and you capture the spirit of Greek music perfectly. I have been listening particularly to your Byzantine music a lot. You do an amazing job.
Χαιρετίσματα στους Έλληνες αδελφούς μου από την Τουρκία Greetings to my Greek brothers from Turkey

Your greek accent is incredibly good. I really enjoyed the arrangement and the singing. You honor all of us Greeks with these videos. Greetings and kind regards from Thessaloniki
Если когда-нибудь будут снимать сериал про Византийскую империю, то в композиторы они обязаны пригласить этого парня.
Your music hits harder than a falling anvil🇦🇹❤️🇬🇷
I love Farya's Greek and Byzantine musics
Bro...What a beautiful masterpiece , made me miss my Greece 🇬🇷🏖️😭😆
Love your voice bro keep it up , always perfect 👍
My guy, you know how to capture that "warm" and mediterranean vibe with your visuals, also your greek singing is pretty much on point...im so glad i discovered your channel, keep going dude.. cheers !
Holy shit. I wouldn’t think this was non-Greek if he didn’t upload under what seems to me an Iranian(?) name.
The Greek tourism and culture ministries need to pay this guy. He does a good job promoting Greece and Greek culture.
Bravo! The whole arrangement (vocals, editing, etc) was absolutely stunning.
Thanks alot my friend!
Alexander Paraskevapolous I of The Blood of a Million Greeks welcome you my brother to our Blessed And Sacred Country, GREECE.
An amazing song after the Smyrnean Dimitris Semsis from 1935-36 in Maqam Huseyni or Byzantine First Soft Diatonic Tetraphonic. Great arrangement and voice mr. Faraji
MANH.....MAΝΙ , dancing and travelling with your music in time
Εξαιρετικός! Θυμίζει Ρωμανία.
You overspoiled my Greek soul. You are the best musician
Ah Mani. Been there 2 years ago. Will never forget Tenaro area and Spathovouni. Areopoli stunning aswell
Beautiful song... We need an Ancient Greek Paian hymne...
Πανέμορφο
Beautiful arrangement of this song, thank you Farya.
This song is in that unique space of predating what the average person normally thinks of as part of the rebetika style, but songs like this are what rebetika came from.
I visited the Tainaron lighthouse three weeks ago. Didn't expect to see it on video.
Give this man a medal already
Do you do all this by yourself? It's pretty impressive
Thanks! Yeah all by myself, from instruments/vocals to mixing, and the filming/editing; the drone shots where I’m playing the instrument for example are just me using the drone’s automatic movement function. It’s a lot of work but the result is always fun to see
This is called true passion! Impressive job!
@@faryafaraji it's magnificent, truly.
My man Farya looking like a super star whith video clip aid all :D
Why is this so damn perfect!? 😭😭😭
Very relaxing. It does give you the vide of sailing in the ocean under the sun.
I'm from Greece and I'm learning greek songs from you. Thank you, you're one of my favourite artists just in one day 🤩
Farya you should consider adding your Greek Folk Music playlist to Spotify/Bandcamp.
I have listen this song many times before, all of them being interpreted by angelic women's voices. But, surprisingly enough, I have never realized quite how beautiful it is. Maybe, it is because of this particular arrangement, that feels extremely familiar, yet totally unexpected. Or, maybe, there is simply something different in the way it is "dressed" by a man's deep voice, in a more "earthly", suggestive manner, in contrast to the woman's more explicitly eloquent, even "elevating" one. At least, that is the feeling I get. It is the first time I realize, how much incurable pain and desperation this song is destined, by its creators, to possess! Thank you , Farya, for revealing this! Greetings from Greece.
God bless Greece 🇬🇷
Sounds of qanun and lyra give it a certain Constantinopolitan sound. Very asia minor rum like.
Stark material as always
As a greek and a fan of rebetiko,I know that many rebetika songs and lyrics come from demotic songs, which means peoples traditional songs that go back centuries, some of them date even back to eastern roman times. You can see this pretty well to some of the earliest rebetiko songs of prison, the mourmourika that originated in the 1800s in king Otto's times.I don't know if that applies to this song but i have to guess.Anyway, great job on the song my friend.Συνέχισε έτσι.
Everything is so impressive, the song, the video, your knowledge about greek music. Once again I'm glad to be one of your subscribers 🇬🇷🦅❤️
Hi Faraji, I like your singing Greek really so much and your pronaunce is perfect, like a native Greek (maybe Cretan?)but please try also the song "stopa ke sto ksanaleo" Greek, from Asia Minor! Thank you so much!
F Squared continues to put out winners. Well done man.

Though its eclipsed by the music your choice of songs and history to represent is something that keeps me coming to the channel
ΕυχαριστώFarya😊merci.
A beautiful song with equally beautiful scenery
Your presence, the way you stand and move makes you look like a legit babylonian king in my perspective.
Hope to hear a carthaginian song from you someday 👏🏻.
Seeing your videos receive hardly 80k views truly breaks my heart. The content you produce should receive more love but still love the way you're carrying on. Just wish more people would discover this amazing place. Farya can u sing in Urdu? If so would u mind doing any poem from Allama Iqbals poetry? I'm asking for something really out of context but really wanna hear you in urdu.

@@faryafaraji thank you very much. you are a great person.
Weirdly enough the landscape reminds me of Croatia a lot, then agian they are in the same region. Anyway I can't wait to see the rest of the video's!!
Aegean =! Adriatic
@@CrazyChickenFarmer He said this was filmed in the Western Peloponnese, so that would be the Ionian Sea, not the Aegean. The Ionian Sea is practically the same sea as the Adriatic.
@@g1u2y345 the landscape he showed is specifically from southern Peloponnese, the region is called Mani, and i know this cuz i descent from that region and it has a distinct tower house architecture.its practically on the border between the Aegean and Ionian sea so both are correct
@@kkoron7908 Ahh I see at the bottom of his comment he actually says it is Mani, which is right between the Aegean and Ionian seas
@@g1u2y345 My bad it was a mistake I corrected it in the description, it was indeed in the eastern Peleponnese, not the western, though I did start in Korinthos but after that it was always on the Aegean side
Perfect! Great!
stunningly beautiful
Masterpiece!!! Keep up the good work 👏 🔥🔥
Awesome 😎
This is amazing
You have excellent voice and pronunciation.
Must have taken such a long time to finish. Great song, love it!
Bravo!
We want 1 song from the rich Ancient history of India and Subcontinent. Go ahead and kindly make one of those. Indian(hindu) military history is as rich as anybody's else.
Wow you are so good!
Where did you pick up that impeccable Greek accent?
I worked for 8 years as a wedding photographer and half of my clients were Greeks :p
