lol, I'm a native speaker and never noticed how we stress the syllables differently in our numbers. Learn something knew every day. So, you are 100% correct.
I was born, and grew up in America, and always thought I could speak American English well. These videos are teaching me about the language I grew up with, and I love learning how Foreign Nationals learn to speak American English.
Born and raised in CA. I've watched a bunch of Lisa's videos today (from different uploaders) and I gotta say this woman is an amazing teacher. She's insightful and knows the subtleties that make our accent sound natural, and can actually *explain* them, too. As some have pointed out, her style is more west coast than east coast, but the crux is that she's teaching how to sound native to the US, and doing it brilliantly! (although I think we say 50 and 60 with far more of a "d" than a "t")
Numbers, when correctly spoken, provide precision and accuracy. This video will help many international professionals such as engineers and doctors clearly communicate numbers and ideas. Thank you.
Having watched this video several times, I'm consistently impressed with your clarity in teaching how to avoid this common, good mistake by too many English language learners. Well done! BTW, I often recommend your website and book to my advanced oral skills students.
Very helpful. My Alexa always thought I was saying "fifteen minutes" when I said "fifty minutes". Now I have learnt the trick: try to unstress the "ty", and it works.
Never heard at least three rulers you are talking about. Thanks Mrs Mojsen. The mistakes with numbers are so frequent. No so easy to eliminate all mistakes.
I enjoy watching these because it makes me aware of pronunciation, but sometimes when I try to compare the words to how I say them, I become conscious of it, so I get confused! :D
Hi Lisa, I'm learning English by my own and have found your videos very helpful, thanks so much!!! One question, should we say "make a mistake"? Or " do a mistake". Would like a video about "dates", how to say years... Thank you Lisa... Greetings from Colombia!!
Wind Liu Shun asked why 50 and 60 are different. That is to say, 30, 40, 70-90, the -ty is pronounced as -dy, but with 50 and 60 the -ty is pronounced as -ty. This is because the letter R in English in 30 and 40 is actually a vowel. Likewise, the N in 70 and 90 nasalizes the preceding vowel and is not pronounced as an N, as in 17 and 19. With 50 and 60, the -ty is not "invervocalic" (between vowel sounds) and therefore is pronounced as a T and not a D.
I'm from Brazil. I really like and understand everything you teach us. I'd like to know if there is some video teaching about the "th" sound. I do have problems with this. How can I say it.. In the Portuguese there're not any sound like the "th" , when a Brazillian guy is trying to learn English we start to pronounce like the "f" sound.
British accent is better than American accent for beginners, because is very clear, very kind and slowly, is my opinion but we should to learn both accent
Haaa ! You know I'd always been wondering why people pronounce the numbers 20, 30 etc like that ? I love & always wanted to prononce it that way too, but don't know. Now, I'll make this an homework. Thanks so much my great teacher !
Again; Your lesson are very useful for me: I am an English teacher (mexican) and I teach Spanish too, I think that It is not a good idea to say the "mistakes" not even to repeat them. Because the student´s mind will grabb them. So, I suggest you to say only the good pronounciation. Thanks.
why does the T become a D after 20? People look at me and think I am saying fifteen but I am actually saying (Fif-TEE) and (Fif-teen). In fact, A LOT of words with the letter T in it are turned into the letter D around these parts if the letter is in the middle of the word.
Haha i like how there are probably more Americans watching these vids than there are foreigners :P but it is really interesting to learn how we speak from an outside point of view :D also, hello to all my fellow patriots :)
I have never known such important rules after learning English for years. No more hesitation when I say them again. Thank you so much Lisa.
As an english speaker, if you are learning these subtle language tricks you have done very well. These lessons are excellent in my opinion.
lol, I'm a native speaker and never noticed how we stress the syllables differently in our numbers. Learn something knew every day.

I love to hear American English because It's so obivous and everybody easly understands it. Thank you Lisa Mojsin

This video is about the -TEENs versus the -TYs; therefore, those that add +10 as compared with those that multiply by ×10.
You're a amazing girl, I love it! You help us very much, thank you Liza...

it is interesting. I think because growing up with it, we learn one word or phrase at a time. We dont learn by set rules.
Again; Your lesson are very useful for me: I am an English teacher (mexican) and I teach Spanish too, I think that It is not a good idea to say the "mistakes" not even to repeat them. Because the student´s mind will grabb them. So, I suggest you to say only the good pronounciation. Thanks.
