The "chanting" was basically creating a sort of, inmates in their cells, singing/chanting together, type vibe.
Been a lifelong thrice fan since their Identity Crisis EP days. I LOVE everything about what they stand for, and their creativity….I must say, their lyrics and musicality are their biggest strengths. Unique is a great adjective for them. Also, having been to lots of their shows, this song is a CROWD STARTER and a CROWD PLEASER, and gets everyone howling. It’s an anthem song, so the chanting gets the crowd going!
The entire jail motif is a metaphor for every day life. “Born and bred in this machine.” It’s not literally about being in jail. They usually end their concerts with the song, and the pit goes
crazy.
Everyone stomping at the same time that’s one of the three meanings … I said this since first impressions
Wow! Really low ratings for such a good song... Well, Thrice is one of those bands that grow on you.
I have to say, i love all of the punk bands you react to and that's maybe the reason i follow this channel, but to me this one right here is my absolute favorite band ever. I was even thinking about requesting full albums because they have changed sooo much over time, every album is different, with this one (Vehissu) being a staple of their sound evolution.
This band is a journey. Definitely check out deadbolt to see the difference in sound from this album on.

@@jrod1287 I haven't listen to a lot of the newer stuff. I probably should. The few I listened to after had some great songs but I felt like they changed quite a bit.
@@_Jake.From.Statefarm_ You should. The great thing about Thrice is they don't stay in one place for very long. Always pushing into different places sonically. They're really more of a postmodern alt/prog. You may not always love it, but you have to admire their uncompromising attitude.
Alright bois, I think you'd be more aligned with their earlier material. Definitely check out Deadbolts if you want to give Thrice a good chance.
