I play one length, started on F8s steel shaft, now F9 graphite shift. This year my handicap dropped 6 shots. So working 4 me 😁
I'd definitely try these but will be sticking to the F9s for at least another season. Lovely irons really like the look of them and it would have to be one length for me

I bought the Cobra F7 One Length irons in 2017. I really liked them. I traded them in last fall on a new set or Cobra Forged Tec One Length irons. I even have the One Length Cobra black wedges. I recently tried swinging my brother's standard length clubs and failed miserably. One Length is much simpler. It's one setup for every iron.

As you said “it’s personal. In my opinion, it will work for MAJORITY of mid to high handicapper (70% of golfers) .. the reason it should work for everyone is 1. same plane swing, same ball position, more accurate dispersion,
    Drawback is length.
And most of users, love them! Use hybrid 3,4, and 5 to achieve distance .. this can only be achieved if you put your ego aside and worry only about game!

Since statistically I have less error playing shorter length clubs for my 6 and 5 iron, the ONE length works for me. On short irons play also “ONEs” and learned to hit 3/4 swings to my satisfaction on precision. The P, 9, 8 ONE irons from the rough are a blessing. Thank you!

I wish more manufacturers would offer one length, would love them with my P770's. I constantly have to work on not swinging my long irons the same plane as my short irons and can get too steep and low delivered loft.

His long iron games has improved immeasurably with the shorter shafted long irons and I think this could be something for higher handicappers to help them a bit higher up the bag to gain consistency

Love your testing mark, you're one of the few who gives One length a fair go. Gaming F9 ONE since October 4i-GW, gone from 18 HCP to 15 already. You really need to trust the club, I see guys on YT test and they try to grip down on the higher lofted irons and move the ball around too much. Big no-no. Trust the engineering. Set up per 7i and rip the same swing every day. Can't get much easier than that. Tightest gap is 7-6 at about 10 yards. Everything else is a rough 15. Have stopped playing my 19deg ping i25 hybrid as the distance and accuracy I'm getting out of the 4 iron is superior.

Using F9 one length for a little over 1.5 years. I actually don’t mind the longer (short) irons but struggle with the longer irons being short & flying lower. Also my gapping is a little erratic. The one length concept works so well for many but I think I’m going to go back to standard length. I will say the one length is worth a shot though, just may work for you.

I really like them because I just started the game back up after 20 years and had to relearn my swing and I think it really shortened the learning curve for me also I'm using the same muscles to swing which reduces my chance for injury since I have a bad back!

Love cobra one length irons. Bought the set. Really love the one-length wedges. Another huge advantage; less bending over with low clubs! Much more comfortable! I bought a one length hybrid. It's shorter and less comfortable. Less length is less head speed with hybrid! Can't wait to try the rads! GO COBRA! THANK YOU FOR THE COMPARISON! Great source of info in selection process! Graphite shafts also much more comfortable. Much more shock absorption with imperfect shots. Looking back my first set of clubs would be graphite!

Mark, when you ask why would anyone want to go with the one length, I’ve found it really helps me physically. It’s much easier on my bad back to stand more upright when making violent twisting swings than being more bent over with standard length clubs. This is areal plus for older golfers.

I personally just got a set of Cobra Forged Tec One Lengths 4-GW and matching 54 and 58 degree wedges. I absolutely love them, I am much more consistent with my ball striking now, much less tops and fats. I've found the wedges do travel about 5 yards further than my old ones did (adjusting for loft), and they go a bit higher I think as well. The only issue is the 4 and 5 for me, the average length between those is only 5 yards apart. It makes me want to switch the 4 for a one length hybrid.

I played golf badly without instruction as a kid. Age 12-23 or so. Quit while peaking at barely a bogey golfer on a great day.
18yrs later I'm starting over, and after a range session with my old clubs and couldn't hit 10 shots in the air out of a large bucket - I'm starting from scratch. I chose One Length Cobras because I wanted to have less an uphill battle and to get me playing golf sooner as opposed to having to learn a bag of different stances, swings, addresses, etc.
I hit some whifle balls in the yard when the clubs arrived, and was able to get the ball in the air nearly every swing, so far so good.
First range session, I was striking the ball better than I ever did in my early golf years. Out of a large bucket of balls running thr whole set of irons, i hit less than 10 bad shots.
I absolutely love them, and a beginning/scrub golfer can really benefit from this concept by taking some variables out of the equation.

I gamed One Length Cobra F7, then F9 and now Milford Golf SL-7 over the past 3 years. I play 6-GW irons, and Cobra OL Hybrids 19, 22,25 degrees. You need to play the One Length for a few weeks to become accustomed to them, then you forget any issues.
Handicap now 13 ( was 24 3 years ago). Do they work? Hell yes! Think of it this way, once I can get the ball within 150m of the pin I just need to select the appropriate club for the distance and swing like my 7 iron.

Bought the Radspeed standard, replaced the G400. I will be a cobra guy for the rest of my life. More consistent, straighter, and longer, which i am sure is the lofts, but good for me. They are incredibly solid at impact, and forgiving at the same time. Cobra forever.....They restored my handicap, back to a solid 7. Also, sent them back to cobra to have adjusted to 2 degrees flat, and the factory did a great job, at no charge.

  • @James_Vaughn
    @James_Vaughn 3 года назад +1

One--length is not something that can really be assessed in a short while. Try testing them from deep rough. compared to standard length and see what happens. I personally think they give an advantage when hitting out of rough, with the extra speed. I also think that gave Bryson another advantage over the field at the US open. I've played one-length for 3 seasons, with great results. I find my distances to be more consistent with the OL wedges, and "short" irons than with standard. I tend to pop standard wedges up and come up short, or blade them over the green. The length is easier on my back as well. I've always been better at hitting long clubs than short ones anyway, so a combo set of OL 7-LW, and then go to standard after that may be ideal.

I started playing one length about 3 years ago b/c I could not get my ball striking consistent through the bag, especially with longer irons. I have gotten infinitely better thanks to this idea and my handicap went from about 12-13 to 6-7 in that span (most of which was last year when I was playing more due to COVID of course). I know 3 others playing them and everyone who has actually made that change has understood exactly why I did too. No regrets at all, would never go back.

I play one length sterling irons. I’m a 13 hcp my iron shots aren’t what cause me to not break 80. I’m not obsessed with what’s on the bottom of the club but the lofts I get them bent to the gap I need. Irons are played 4-pw then standard gw, wide sole sw, and lw. I can flight a 50 gw to 140 so the set plays well for me. I use the single plane swing with them no issues, I address the ball the same for “normal” shots a move the trail foot closer or farther away if I want to flight or send to the moon.

I play the forged tec and F9 one length, high handicap player and just find this has really helped my game and simplified it. Again what people fail to mention is that, just because it's one length does not mean they can be custom fit. I have my 9 and P half inch shorter through choice, it doesn't affect distance and actually at 6'1 would be the same length as a normal 9/P in standard length custom fit.

So 1 length, with 1 ball position, 1 swing, sounds like an awful nice simplification. If I could hit all of my irons already I don't think I'd switch so I see why you wouldn't.

I started playing 1 Length SpeedZone in April and the best decision I ever made. So much so that for more control I shortened everything else in the back (except high wedges). I am still working on getting even speed across the 1 Length but will come in time. The reason for it is that at 5' 3", I could not maximize full length clubs. Primarily fat shots have gone away and well struck shots get more distance than with a similar full length club. For anyone 5' 9" or short, I highly recommend taking a serious look at 1 Length as well as adjusting other clubs.

I've been gaming One Length for a few years now. My "traditionally" lofted One Length Forged wedges go higher with similar carries to my standard clubs while my long irons go lower and often fall slightly short if I don't hit it perfectly (which is a lot). But honestly, I hit just as many bad shots with my standard length long irons and I think the One Length short irons have helped me learn how to deliver better loft numbers will all of my clubs.

I'll add that I had been playing golf about 5-6 years before trying one length so I wasn't trying to unlearn a lifetime of experience. I'm tall and I find that I love the short end of my bag. I get a little nervous with the longer shots with the longer irons and tend to mishit them more often. I've dropped the 4-iron and replaced it with a One Length 4h. I don't think I will ever go back to variable-length short to mid-irons and wedges but maybe would change how I get to the top end of the bag. I'm a 13/14 HC for reference.

I don't have to practice with each iron because they're all 7 irons. The hybrids are maybe 1/2" - 3/4" difference in length. So I can practice 54 wedge pitch shots, 7i, 5W, Driver, putt and go home. And with my back I don't want a long practice session.

I had 3 rounds so far with the Cobra F9 one length. Clearly I am getting more distance on short irons and less on long irons. I need to further work on chipping using the short irons. Having said that I feel my consistency is improving. Will know whether it is worth the change in the next few weeks

I know quite a few people who game one length, the main feedback I’ve heard being they like that they don’t have to change set up to much for each club, stand the same distance away from the ball ect.. not for me but the idea is cool

I game 5-GW one lengths (F9) and although I don't have a handicap, since purchasing those clubs this past spring I've broken 80 three times - averaging 82-84ish the other times I'm out. To be honest, I have lost about 4-5yds of carry distance but the ease of set up and confidence I've gained more than makes up for that.

@ Grahame turner I think this is the thing with these, is that they are for high handicappers. I think the one length in particular for the longer irons can really make a difference.

Got myself a set of fmax one lengths, got them as a forgiving start up set after coming back form 10 years of not playing, I play sim hybrid and ping wedges so not a must for me having stuff in just one length but do really like them and being 6’1 it feels more comfortable and natural playing full shots with with the shorter irons in a longer length

I played f9 one length for a while. Consistency of strike was great but found the short iron ballooned in the wind. Also found the short irons awkward on lessers shorts and chips. Certainly think everyone should try them 👍

I just hit these clubs today, and I was much more consistent with these than my Taylormade, or the Ping and Mizuno I tried out. Although, I should probably book some lessons to fix my inside to out swing before I get fitted and buy new clubs.

I've always thought the one length was such an interesting concept. Honestly Mark, I want to see you play half a season with the one length! For most golfers, I think the feelings would be so different when you're on the course and pull out that wedge or that 5 iron.

Long term vids about these kind of clubs are hard to find. I've been using one length now for 2 years ... and I play golf ... little more than 2 years. I will never look at variable length clubs as for me it makes no sense to more complexity added to my game. Haha ... it is hard enough. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

The average golfer will benefit from single length that way the swing doesn’t change. I’ve been a club builder for 30 years and I see more average players starting to go to the single length. Especially guys that are getting older.

I switched to Cobra King Forged One Length (4-P) last summer, and I like them. It did take some getting used to, and I'm still not entirely sure about the longer short irons. I do believe in the concept though, and feel determined to get it working for me. Haven't checked the numbers, but I feel more comfortable with the short 4-iron than the long P-wedge. I only ordered them from eBay, fitted JumboMax-grips on them and got going, so they're not custom fitted. I will go for a custom fitting next summer, and see if I'm getting something new or maybe just change shaft or some specs of my current ones.
I don't play as much as I would want, but last summer I actually had a streak of 14 (9 hole) rounds in a row with between 16-22 points. Of course that could have happened with my previous irons too, but I just feel a lot more interested and motivated to improve with my one length irons. It's not for everyone, but I've had new clubs before and never felt like this. With these, and being a fan of Bryson I just.. feel a curiosity that I've not felt since I started as a 10 year old (I'm now 34).

I don’t know anyone who games 1-length here in South Florida, but the resale value on EBay is impressive. I’m interested to try it, but not at $300-400 for a used set from 4-5 years ago. Someone is buying them. I’ll let you know when I find them, probably some crazy dude buys them and he stacks them away in a warehouse somewhere.

I game the one length 3 hybrid, then a 4 iron-gw but close out with a vokey 56 and 60. I took my handicap from mid 20s to single digits this season. Granted practicing a lot helped but the irons are consistent and forgiving.

Longer grip and shafts on the short clubs to help with chipping (can shorten length as needed and a good hold on the club down the shaft) while having the ability to come in high and hold green from farther out...then go with standard length for 6 on up up.

The distance of a particular iron compared to others doesn't matter, it is the gapping that is important.
For my game, the longer I can hit short irons the better because I struggle a bit with the longer shots of 190-210 yds with an iron and since I am a feel player, hitting half or 3/4 wedges is a strength.

I’ve build myself a set with variable length in the short irons down to 7 and one length in 6,5,4. It works. However, even if Cobra improved the concept over the years, I still think there’s room for improvement. The problem is obviously the trajectory of the lower lofted clubs. In order to get it right I believe they should be more hybrid like. Something like the Cleveland Launcher. The Cobra one length hybrids sits a bit too upright and closed ( at least for me ) . They becomes “hook machines “ . But I think the idea with shorter length in the lower lofted clubs is a good one. Anything that makes it easier...

I play a “used” set of F7 one length from 6 to SW. Converted to them to improve strike and also manage a tetchy back. I keep the same ball position and do not adjust position on grip. I think you are right the masses will not convert nor any top pro golfers because they have no reason to do so, if Bryson did not play them would Cobra make them? Not sure I will be able to convince my wife that I need the rad speed. Thank you for reviewing both standard and one length together. Late reviewing as I tuned out of golf during latest restrictions

I see the point of the one length being that the lower lofted irons are easier to hit for your average golfer. I would say long irons are the most difficult clubs to hit the ball cleanly. I would like to see cobra make a set of irons that were pw-7 standard lengths and then 6-4 one lenght

It´s s fair amount of people who "swear by" Trump as well. That doesn't mean they are right you know.
The reason for Bryson to play one length has to do with his particular swing (body mechanic). I can't see any reason for the average golfer to sacrifice the extra precision they get from using a normal length (short) wedge if they don't gain something similar at the other end of the spectrum. (Remember, the wedge is much more than a full swing club - You need that versatility, right?!) Hard to see any theoretical gain that can compensate for the loss of that short-game versatility, to be honest. (If long-iron is their problem, they can use hybrids, right?!)
