The mixing on this song is extremely unique and very subdued for a rock group. The super clean rhythm guitars, the almost non existent kick drum, and even just the little weird stuff like the snare being hard panned to the right make the song really dynamic and airy in a way I never would think to take a mix of this genre, very inspiring tbh.

    • @Evildandalo
      @Evildandalo 5 лет назад +7

grmpf That goes for a lot of rock bands that include random horn sections in their tracks. It’s usually a side effect of them having played that instrument in school before moving to guitar/keys/vocals and just wanting to throw a little part of it onto one song. Most great horns in rock were done by a session band a la Radiohead’s Life In A Glasshouse.
However I can attest to it being a fun little experiment even if you can’t play that well. I can’t play my alto sax for shit anymore but given enough time and takes I can get it sounding good enough to sit in a mix without being distracting.

You can always say that summer had its charm
And that you did no major harm
Oh, spare me if you please

With no one else to shine for
    Sick of all my distress

This was their first album, they're a converted metal band too.
It sounds to me like the drums weren't miced enough, or they were lacking tracks to do so, this was recorded in 1993 or 1994.
The likelihood is the thinness with the drums is lack of available tracks to record them with.
(i recorded albums back in 1999 and 2000 I know the technical issues they were up against)

    Sick, tired an sleepless
with no one else to shine for
    sick of all my distress
    but I won't show I'm still poor
You can always say my attic has its charm
you can always say you did no major harm
you can always say that summer had its charm
and that you did no major harm
oh, spare me if you please
    Symptoms are so deep
    something here's so wrong
    nothing is complete
    nowhere to belong
    symptoms are so deep
    I think I'd better stay
    here on my own
so spare me if you pleaseSick, tired and homeless
with no one here to sing for
    tired of being weightless
for all these looking good boys
You can always say my attic has its charm
you can always say you did no major harm
you can always say that summer had its charm
and that you did no major harm
oh, spare me if you please
    Sick, tired an sleepless
with no one else to shine for
    sick of all my distress
    but I won't show I'm still poor
You can always say my attic has its charm
you can always say you did no major harm
you can always say that summer had its charm

Damn what a beautiful song this is because Nina's voice are so cute beautiful and unique as always and i really really love her and that really awesome Volvo pv 544 that are one of the most beautiful cars that are made in sweden. And Volvo and The Cardigans are the best things that has came from sweden ever.

I wanted the cardigans to stay together, because they inspire so much.

First song I'd heard of the Cardigans, back at the end of 1995 - I would regularly wake up to it being played on what was Virgin 1215 back then (MW radio!); I remember doo-doo-doo'ing the tune on my lunch break to a bemused looking Woolworths counter clerk who'd also heard it but didn't know the title either - then I turned round to see my supervisor stood right behind me: cringe!
I also heard it being played on the MTV/VH1 channel in a pub and I asked what song it was and was told it was Carnival (also by the Cardigans), and I though that's what it was for a good few years since then - I wouldn't get the correct title until by chance on Napster back in 2001, after ILLEGALLY downloading and playing a part of Carnival, then on realising that wasn't what I wanted, many other of their songs I didn't recognise the title - decided Sick & Tired would be my last try before giving up: struck gold!
