The mixing on this song is extremely unique and very subdued for a rock group. The super clean rhythm guitars, the almost non existent kick drum, and even just the little weird stuff like the snare being hard panned to the right make the song really dynamic and airy in a way I never would think to take a mix of this genre, very inspiring tbh.

Emmerdale 1994. I first learned how to play this song on guitar in high school in 2009 or so. First song my girlfriend (now wife) heard me play in 2015. Been playing it on and off for 5 years and she’s sick and tired of it because it’s all I play. It just sounds so good 😊
Oh. I still struggle to figure out these jazzy chords. But I love this song. Would you share a quick tab? I suspect there's a fair share of diminished and augmented chords in there.
So good. How did these guys come up with their sound in the 90s of all times. So inventive and interesting. I was so into the heavy stuff back in the day. I really only know their major radio songs. Discovering them again for the first time.
grmpf That goes for a lot of rock bands that include random horn sections in their tracks. It’s usually a side effect of them having played that instrument in school before moving to guitar/keys/vocals and just wanting to throw a little part of it onto one song. Most great horns in rock were done by a session band a la Radiohead’s Life In A Glasshouse. However I can attest to it being a fun little experiment even if you can’t play that well. I can’t play my alto sax for shit anymore but given enough time and takes I can get it sounding good enough to sit in a mix without being distracting.

@@bigpulgalokes Guitar, Bass, and Drums. That's rock. Soft rock, but still rock.
Also, they played live shows without a backing track.
It reminds of, like, mixing they did for old mono songs that were remastered for stereo, it gives them a very classic Americana feel.
