Nice video. Received a A500 mini for Christmas and lot's of the classic games seem to be working really well on it. Definitely helps with improvements in the firmware update. Glad Retrogames have taken onboard the user feedback and made these improvements.
Speedlink Competition Pro Joystick. Best USB joystick available for A500 mini (or pc etc). I picked up 2 for £40 when they first released. Back in the day, the go to joystick was always a Zipstick(they were excellent, but they did break easily if used to hard ie. Trying to score that long range swerving shot in SWOS 97/98 from the half way line 😂). Great video btw.
Excellent video. I have the The C64 mini , Maxi and the A500. I didn't know there was a firmware update or I could use my C64 Maxi joystick on it. Thanks for the excellent video. I enjoyed it very much.
Thanks mate! Yeah as I mentioned thats the downside of not being connected huh, you don't even get a notification an update is available unless you go out to check yourself! Glad to hear you found the video helpful :)
Yeah hopefully there is be an efficient solution for that. I was watching an 8-bit guy video and he was talking about running DOS on an Amiga as a way to easily access an Amiga disk in a DOS environment. I wonder if there is a way to rip disks from there 🤔
@@KutskiGaming try Greaseweasle for rippin your old disks .i bought a build one at AMIGA KIT. but i am afraid you will find out most of your disks already might been disintegrated.
@@janwiersma1449 ah thanks. I'll look into it! Yeah I think if I go in with the expectation that nothing will work, I might be pleasantly surprised if the odd one here and there is still good :)
Yes. The Speedlink Competition Pro is the superior joystick. Much better quality than both TheC64 Mini and TheC64 joysticks. The only problem I had was that none of the buttons were mapped to the menu button. Maybe they fixed it in this latest firmware update.
@@baardbi Ah I did read something about this in the 1.1.1 firmware notes. From what I remember there was talk about support for 'hot swapping' controllers so you can start the game with the official controller with all the menu buttons, then unplug and replug in a different controller without upsetting things so you can use other controllers that don't have the menu buttons. If this is the case it sounds like they haven't really addressed this in any real way, and doesn't sound like a great solution for me. It would be great if you could use a USB hub, then use the official controller to navigate the menus but default to the Speedlink in the games.
I laughed at the PS5 dig! I also never played any games on the Amiga since I’m pretty sure we never got them over here. I wonder if they are able to get them over here? Last point. As a severely left handed person, it’s actually a bit surprising that the joystick was originally mapped to left handed. I’m really used to the the entire world being against us lefties. Great video as always!
I think the Amiga was released in North America but certainly wasn't as popular as it was in Europe. The company that made this mini also made the C64 Mini which was released in Europe first, then USA at a later date. People where importing them early but there was some screwy stuff with the PAL vs NTSC stuff so I'd defo recommend waiting for the right one for your region, although that still might cause problems as a lot of the games where made for PAL (50hz), but I think most modern TV's (and I'd assume monitors) can deal with either refresh rate now. Regarding the joystick, I thought it was a left hand vs right hand thing, but a lot of people have been saying it's weird if I'm right handed and play with my right hand on the stick and left hand on the button! So maybe it was a general preference change rather than a left / right handed thing
@@KutskiGaming As a right hander, I always held the stick with my right hand as do you Kutski. Regarding your question in the video, why anyone would want to map joystick controls to keys, well as a PC user since roughly the year 2000 using keys for movement became normal :) Whereas back in my Amiga days in the 90s anything but a joystick seemed unfamiliar and peculiar, I am now more used to keyboard and joypads for movement. I don't think joystick use was ever as common on the PC as on the Amiga, primarily because it wasn't as big a machine for arcade type games which were most suited to joysticks, but also because if they were in the home rather than an office then they were first and foremost a work tool for Dad and therefore joysticks were a luxury not bothered with (unless he liked flight sims, in which case he'd buy a rather expensive stick that he wouldn't want to be furiously jerked around in platformers etc.). Of course as PCs came down in price and became more attractive due to advances in graphics and processing power in the 90s they became far more widespread and used largely for gaming, but by that time 3D games were in vogue and mouse and keyboard is the best combination for 3D worlds, and I think that even if joysticks and joypads had been prevalent on PCs beforehand then M&K would still be the most popular way to play.
get yourself "The Competition Pro Extra" from speedlink and for keyboard and mouse get the Logitech K220 set. i personally hate the on-screen keyboard. and you are a happy camper. i use the competition pro on AMINIMIGA (i am sure it will function on AGS2 also, but you might make some changes in the amiberry joystick settings cuz thats more pad set)
Great stuff thanks for the advice! Especially with the keyboard, I’ve had a lot of issues with most modern keyboards not using the ‘F’ keys by default without needing to press the Fn key first
Does the K220 use Logitech Unifying Receiver so you can run both mouse and keyboard? I see that it comes with some different kind of longer USB dongle when I read the manual.
IMPORTANT: You can't use Pandory Mod or PCUAE anymore with this update and you can't downgrade - I personally would strongly advise against it! PCUAE will cover all your needs including support for ADF and HDF.
Ah right, thanks for the heads up, I never played with PCUAE or Pandora Mod so I wasn't aware of this. I've found the native support for ADF in the update really reliable for my use to be honest, but will pin this so others can make the decision for themselves :)
