Jeongyeon getting 2 choruses was the highlight for me, its about time she's treated like the lead vocalist she's supposed to be

It feels great, yes I know the line distribution isn't great and the song highly favor their 3 vocalist, but having Jeongyeon sing that much really what makes the song special
I don't understand Jeongyeon's less lines in their new songs?? Their new songs are not cutesy as before, she has least problem while performing live, when she hits high notes it sounds so strong rather than strained
@@persona8208 IMO, Jeongyeon is the most stable and powerful when singing standing up but when dancing+singing, Jihyo and Nayeon are more stable. That's just what I think though but I love Jeongyeon getting more lines she deserves.

the lyrics were written by jyp and heize. Originally, Sunmi was asked to write lyrics for it, but she was busy with her own schedules so she was unable to write the lyrics. Sunmi has been wanting to write music for twice for some time now, but her past songs and lyrics were rejected for being too dark and sexy. I'm hoping that the positive reception of this song lets management know that fans would kill for a twice song produced by sunmi.
True, JYP has to acknowledge that twice has to grow up and expecting them to keep singing cute stuffs won't do the trick when they reach 30's. I can't stop me and cry for me has really changed my perspective of twice and maybe this is the same as some other people, i hope JYP would see this situation.

Agreed! Like Apink did it the majority of their career but even they are switching it up and fans are totally loving it! Twice has proven already they can pull off this type of concept very well!
I believe the song she wrote lyrics to isn't CFM and its just being held by jype for the future.
@@yellowmesh7821 no she didn't write CFM but sunmi said on a livestream she heard CFM early this year and was asked to write lyrics for twice. she said they asked when she was busy preparing for her own releases so she couldn't write the lyrics but that she loved the song's instrumental
I like the changes for this song: Momo rapping while Chaeyong sings, Sana and lower register, more lines for Jeongyeon, great parts for Mina while the others still can shine. Maybe the only downsight would be Tzuyu having not as many parts

Is it just me or Jihyo’s voice, these recent comebacks, have become extremely mature and distinct. Not that it was not distinct before, but recently it’s MORE.
Also, imma say it, best twice choreo till date. It’s not complex, as in big moves or difficult/fast moves, but it is intricate.

Fun fact: this song was a contender for being a title for Eyes Wide Open alongside with I Can't Stop Me, but JYP gave up on that idea, because they thought that the song was too dark and different for Twice. This is why it kinda feels unfinished, they probably left it undone. But, girls themselves really liked it and asked for perfoming it at MAMA. My guess is that it's a hint for which direction Twice will go forward on: more dark, edgy, sensual stuff. And I think it suits them really well, so I'm really excited for their fiture releases.

I can see Twice tap in some Psycho by Red Velvet kind of feel. Imagine if Feel Special and Psycho had a daughter.. that would be my guess for Twice next comeback.

another reason why he didnt put it in the album was because they dont want to overwhelm the audience because the asian market needs time to adjust. so yeah.

Actually twice twitter announced that cry for me is a pre-release but we don't know for what it's mysterious
My guess is they planned to have a repackage by the end of this year, thus this is the title track for that album, but since Jeongyeon was resting, they decided to postponed that so this is just a pre-release until the album is released in the future when Jeongyeon is back

"Cry for me" personally hitted me just like Red Velvet's "Psycho". Both are mature, elegant, classy, extraordinary bops.
This song was so perfect imo. They started delving a little more into mature concepts with fancy and feel special then showed us even more with more and more. But then I can't stop me again really set the stage for where they could go lyrically and conceptually. Because of this growth Cry For Me didn't feel like a one off 'we are doing a non standard concept for an awards show and then going back to normal' and instead felt like a natural progression of 'this is us, this is who we are, we are way more than what people have seen so far'
Agree with you 100%, I just wish this song "Cry For Me" should've been released next year, like a follow up to ICSM, that way we could have gotten an MV, still it's okay that we're all able to enjoy it this year 😊
@@trigunner6968 an MV would've been really cool. Maybe use the same producers who did the Deja Vu MV for Dreamcatcher as they did a good job with the gothic element

Yess!!! Her part always gets me everytime, her voice is sweet as honey and is very sweet, soft, seducing, just perfect!
Chae is so underrated, she can do everything. Opens up a lot of possibilities for the girls moving forward if they use her more as a vocalist, I think it also helps Momo as her distinct voice contrasts nicely with Dahyun when they rap.
At this point i actually hopes that jype will treat chaeyoung more a lead vocalist than a main rapper. Her voice is so soft and rich. its so pleasant in my ears. while momo and dahyun will take charge of rap even tho i hope dahyun will get more vocal lines since her voice is also unique and rich.

This really solidifies the musical growth of the girls, tbh. From More & More era which I felt was a springboard into the more mature concept and chic (or edgier?) vocals, to Cry For Me, I think TWICE really got what they finally deserve in terms of switching up the genre, and being able to showcase everybody's vocals differently.
I have to agree, i love Sana and Mina's lower registers, and Momo's back to rapping (pls this makes me so happy), and wholly backing you on Chaeyoung's heavenly vocals which should be displayed more. Tzuyu needed more lines, definitely.

Cry for me wasn’t really supposed to be released. But they played it on MAMA for ONCE after the hardships of 2020 as a surprise. But the reception was so good JYP released it. That’s why it sounds unfinished because it wasn’t meant to be finished if you know what I mean

This song is just ✨✨ chef kisses✨✨ and to think that this was never gonna be released. That’s a crime. Probably why it also feels a little undone or unfinished. The girls liked it so much they wanted to surprise the fans with a unheard song. And then jype probably was like: okay shit we need to really do this then. The version they did at MAMA wasn’t even the final «product”
I love how their vocals are becoming “more & more” refined and melodically stable. As for the visuals......nobody comes close. Choreo....they’re all full fledged dancers now. They are an exceptionally talented group of young women with hearts of gold. To quote BRISXLIFE “Twice are the Angels of KPOP”.
My personal favourite part is mina's part in the bridge, her voice is so captivating, i'm glad she was chosen for that part

I would say that the biggest change is that there is a hint of spite within this song (which might be the reason why it might not have been released). I might be wrong, but feel like it's the first time that one of their song suggest that they want to hurt someone. And I think it give more depth to their image, it make it a bit more humane than the ever optimist twice.
The way they sing each of the choruses is different
1st disbelief that they were cheated on
2nd desperation giving the other a last chance
3rd more towards getting revenge hence ending with die for me
Finally I am not the only one who heard its similarity to redvelvet’s psycho
Edit: I am not saying someone copied someone I just felt the vibe in some parts that is it and I love both group’s music

JYP should've made this TWICE's comeback
i would have liked JYPe to not do the more and more EP, and focus on building up to the release and promotion of "eyes wide open" with i can't stop me as the main promotional track and cry for me as a repackage. If anything more and more should have been treated as a pre-release track for eyes wide open, but I think the promotion of more and more took away from alot of the hype that should have been there for eyes wide open.
This was in contention to be a title track for Eyes Wide Shut but "I Can't Stop Me" won out.

@@NailujG that's why i think more and more could have been a pre-release to eyes wide open. It could have been an nonpromotional summer single release (maybe paired with a different stand out track from the EP like oxygen or shadow). it would still give a proper build up to eyes wide open. More and more was promoted as an EP and fans at the time didn't know about a full album coming later that year. and while there was more online content for EWO, more and more was promoted on korean tv better and overall it was given a decent amount of promo to where it took away from the benchmark that is EWO.
basically, more and more is a necessary build up, but JYPe should have framed it as a pre-release from the beginning, so people can treat it as such during its release. What actually happened was fans were somewhat underwhelmed by more and more because it was never said to be a pre-release or was treated like a pre-release when it came out. only after EWO came out people are understanding why more and more exists, and that's not really a good thing IMO. That being said, JYPe decided to make more and more an EP because it was an opportunity to make more money, the EP sold extremely well but i think its release took away from what could have been an even more extraordinary conceptual project for twice

I think twice's managerial team made the biggest mistake by making twice not only open the year with more and more but make it be such an anticipated comeback after their hiatus of nine months. The build up and the excitement was there, and people left disappointed because more and more wasn't such a great song to me. It would have been better if icsm was released first then cry for me, and they should have changed the story lines to make it fit.
Also there was so much hype around more and more that it was their best selling album, but then people became really disappointed with it and didn't buy ewo as a result, which was a much superior album. I hate comparing but if you compare this year with other years for twice, especially last year, it was a huge set back in their careers. Also if you compare twice with their biggest competitor blackpink, it was even more of a fail this year. Twice's fails could also be due to their very short time for promotions this year, like exactly 2 weeks, wtf jype??
Love this song, really like their "darker" or more emotional concept, hope they make a MV for this or next title song with similar concept. That being said "Gothic" and "gothic poetry" is really far fetched. As someone who loves gothic aesthetics and gothic music, I can clearly say this is no where near gothic, Id say more sad and emotional rnb song.

We went from TT to this. I'm so happy and thrilled what's coming next, at this point Twice are up there man. They always deliver.
Charyoung's cry when shes singing is so good!
To be honest, those unfinished qualities really sold me. It makes the vibe more nuanced and focused, a little minimalistic. Rather than approaching the mature dark feel with flourishes, they approach it with intimacy.

Cheayoung’s parts was actually one of my favorite parts and Jeongyeon’s chorus was soo nice. Finally get to hear more of their vocals in a title track.

jeongyeon is the STAR of this song! i sooo missed her on the visuals for this song, and i love that JYP’s direction to the performance was not to have one of them substitute her on the performance
For me this song is a 10/10 absolute masterpiece. I love every single thing about it but especially how artistic it is. I think it's the best Twice song and choreography to date!
I'm just happy that Jeongyeon's powerful vocals finally got the shine she deserved. Also this song reminds me of Sunmi and her image + songwriting. A masterpiece.

I think you are onto something with the "going dark" theory as it explains the progression from Fancy (or visually the cave in Dance The Night Away) until today. Acknowledging the dark (Fancy), biting the apple (More & More), crossing the line (I Can't Stop Me), giving voice to the inner self (Cry For Me),... Taking the matter in their own hands should be next. This should be fun, I'm looking forward to it!

I love it. You said they should have go harder but i think it is enough and okay as it is. Sometimes, less is better. Also it made their vocal color more pronounced, all 9 of them, thats why I love this song

Yeah, at least they found the route where they successfully transition/changed their overall concept. I remember during JYP intern wherein Twice express their dillemma between sticking to the concept which Onces learned to love or move on to a concept which they've long to try since they are already "grown-up" women.

Now that they know that the gp loves to hear twice in songs like this, I hope they'll continue doing it. Twice singing in much more lower pitch than their usual songs is 💯 You can tell that they're more comfortable with this range, especially Momo, she sounds good!

I like the verses very much which are Nayeon and Mina 1st part and Sana in the 2nd verse OMG...so beautiful, the 2nd part of the chorus just like you said and the end of it where is Tzuyu's part, the bridge with Mina's and Tzuyu's soft voices and the powerful voice of Nayeon. BTW I'm also a big fan of Chaeyoun's voice

This song is really good and it dips even more in a new direction for Twice, which I am all for, as long as they don't completely abandon their cute side. Songs like Likey or what is love are just too iconic.

She is a good vocalist but no, Chae isnt on the main vocal level rn. I think one criteria is they should be able to support a note and in Twice, only 3mix can do that.

People often forget TWICE discography often reflects a young female ( Male as well in some aspect) story through love also life in general and their growth as TWICE mature their musicality with time

I have to say I’ve not really cared for Twice’s title tracks until ‘Yes or Yes’. Then I was kinda hooked all the way around to where I began to actually purchase music. And both ‘Cry for me’ and ‘Can’t Stop Me’ have been my absolute favorite. This mature Twice is my jam.
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY
Cry For Me is hands down my favourite Twice song. I am so excited for them to have the freedom to explore a darker, more mature concept, which really has come naturally as they are getting older. The emotion of the song reminds me of the diva disco era songs (think Gloria Gaynor I Will Survive), without the obvious disco sound, which I love. I think vocally they all sound incredible singing in their natural range, and I hope JYP allows them to do so in future rather than pushing for them all to sing in such high registers. The choreo is perfection. Interesting you mention a gothic vibe as their MAMA costumes for this song really lean into that aesthetic. I’m really hoping this plants the seed for more of this vibe from Twice.

You're *not* the only one who liked the MAMA version better, because it is minimalistic and more nuanced in order to bring out the raw emotions of a deeply conflicted spirit. Instead of bludgeoning the painful mood with overwhelming instrumental flourish, the MAMA version approached it with tonal intimacy (esp during Nayeon's pause and beat drop which actually made me tear up).
