A bit of audio ended up missing about Red Skelton. The connection to Red Skelton is the Nelsons, moved to Hollywood in 1941 so that Ozzie could take the job of bandleader for Red Skelton's radio program. In 1944 when Red Skelton left the radio show, Ozzie and Harriet were offered the radio program.

Man this video sure makes me sad. I saw Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon band live in concert about a year before the crash. It was a real memorable show. Needless to say I was shocked and saddened when I heard the terrible news. To this day I feel the loss. He was a fine singer, songwriter, performer, and family man.

My late friend, Parley Baer, played Darby the next-door neighbor, when the Nelsons first moved to TV. He had the role for 6 years, and his and the Nelson's families became fast friends. Parley's wife, circus star Ernestine Clarke Baer, taught David and Ricky the flying trapeze act, with David catching and Ricky flying. I did not know the Nelsons, but was Parley's caregiver for his final 14 months. Good memories for a long story.

Cabin heaters need periodic maintenance. Unfortunately some heaters like the Janitrol S-200 found on the DC-3 has no mandatory requirements per an A.D or service bulletin. Even today the only requirement is basic maintenance per the Janitrol manual with no pressure testing of the heater combustion tube.

I highly recommend Ricky Nelson’s twin son’s show, “Ricky Nelson Remembered”. My twin daughters and I have seen it many times. It’s more beautiful than can be put into words.
Also, check out their Nelson Christmas show (Christmas With the Nelsons), which tributes Ozzie and Harriet, as well. It’s put together in an eclectic storyline way with the music, as well as thoughtful vintage video clips. Then, Matthew and Gunner also sing beautiful Christmas songs, tethered throughout the show.
I loved Ricky Nelson very much and was glad at his resurgence at the time. I was sad when I heard the news, I was only 12 years old at the time.

DeKalb, Texas, coincidentally, is also known as being the hometown of Dan Blocker, the gentle giant who was "Hoss Cartwright" on Bonanza. Dan Blocker also died too young, stemming from Complications from a routine surgery. He died after the 13th season, and 14 was cut short.
I was on a video not long ago where one of the first police officers to reach the Nelson site had commented. We exchanged comments, as I was an officer for 17 years. He explained that when he arrived, the wreckage was fully engulfed and he couldn't get to it. There is no worse feeling in the world than knowing people are dying but you can't reach them due to fire. That happened to me once, and i listened as a man burn to death while i could see fire trucks coming down the road. I feel bad for the DeKalb officer as i can relate.
The reports of technical problems alarming passengers before the crash sounds similar to the Skynrd crash.

This was a tragic event but I guess it didn’t reach the level of “you will always remember when and where you were” type of events. A great artist. Loved the video really like that you landed the plane instead of the whole crash thing, no need repeating that terrible event.

Great vid. Rick was here in Guntersville his final night playing in friend Pat Uptons club, PJ's Alley i think it was called. Rocker Jerry Lee Lewis had previously owned the plane & having all kinds of mechanical problems claimed NO amount of "love nor money" could get him to ever ride on it again. (Don't know if that's who Nelson bought it from).

Also of note, their father, Tom was a Heissman trophy winner playing for the U of Michigan. He went on to play FB for the Rams. Quite an illustrious family. Oh almost forgot...Rick and Kris' twin sons had some success performing in a band "Nelson" They were very talented in their own right.

Holy Mandela Effect. I remember his plane crashing in 1985, but the news report I saw on television said that Ricky Nelson was piloting his single-engine Cessna (much like the one in an episode of the 70's TV series The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries: episode, "The Flickering Torch Mystery", which Ricky Nelson stars in) when he crashed into the Concord Mall in Concord, California. It never mentioned anyone else on board. I never heard of it being a DC3 with fellow band members on board, or of it crashing in Texas. So weird.

A very sad ending... The speaker did well with a very difficult historic story. Sounds like they couldn't get the door open to escape the cabin. Perhaps no trained attendant and the 2 pilots crawled out the front window and didn't assist with the passengers getting out of the plane. They survived but had to live with that guilt for rest of their lives. It's better to die a hero than to live as a coward. I have tears in my eyes...😢

I was in 6th grade when Ricky Nelson, the Everly Brothers and all that great music was popular. In high school at lunch if it was nasty outside there would be dancing in the gym. I don’t know how old I was but when I’d watch senior Debbie Barrett dancing I almost had an accident.

What's really weird is that there's an episode on the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, where someone tries killing Ricky Nelson's character that he played on that episode, by having his plane crash. This was back in 1976 or 77... Weird coincidence.... oh by the way his character is saved in the nick of time.

The plural of aircraft is “aircraft”. No S. Don’t let the You Tube titles Aircrafts and Watercrafts fool you.

I was lucky to see Ricky and Fats Domino at a small club. That would have been sometime in the mid 80s.

I really wish those making statements/ videos about this incident actually used the correct terminology! Rick Nelson and the others that died, did NOT die in a 'CRASH' That aircraft made a FORCED LANDING. The airplane was largely intact and landed on its gear. The cabin heater, and its malfunction, starting a fire, is what killed them. The pilots escaped through the cabin windows on an escape ladder. The opening of those windows fueled the fire that consumed the airframe.
READ THE NTSB REPORT. Here is a statement from it. NTSB chairman Jim Burnett said that although the plane was filled with smoke, it landed and came to a stop before it was swallowed by flames.

The creators' use of the word 'aircrafts' is a big grammatical error, too. The proper word for multiple vehicles that take to the skies would be 'aircraft.' This simple error drives me crazy!

Bigbass,,,,,,,,, What about the trees it hit?

    • @bigbass421
      @bigbass421 5 месяцев назад

@@billythekid3234 The trees did not destroy the airplane. Reports vary, it has been said the airplane made a forced landing, not a crash landing. The pilots were said to have opened the cockpit windows, and climbed out with escape ladders to the ground- implying the cockpit was above ground, and intact. The opening of those windows allowed air to be sucked into the cabin, and that exacerbated the fire. Regardless, it was a horrible tragedy.
