- It was meant to be a temporary home for those fleeing conflict and insecurity, now the three-decade-old Dadaab refugee complex in Kenya still hosts more than 200 000 people, mostly Somalis. Dimming prospects of lasting solutions amid ongoing insecurity in Somalia, as well as and ever-shrinking resettlement slots have locked Dadaab’s residents into a life as long-term refugees. DW's Melanie Cura Daball met with one man who was born in Dabaab and now has a family of his own.

We somalis should work with our government and also our neighbouring countries to solve dadaab issue , if we don’t solve this issue we should be ashamed of our selves.

Maybe the Gov should start operating Dabaab like a city so that it can have it's own business that generates it's own tax to help fund an education system and the educated in the camp can eventually apply for Kenyen citizenship by right of merit and contribution to Dabaab and by extension Kenya

Thats completely unacceptable. This man is 28 years old and he was born and riased there and raised a family himself. Why wont they allow these ppl to work and leave? This is a form of genocide. To keep generations of ppl essentially imprisoned.

@JAY JUNIOR, the land belongs to Somalia, and Somalia will liberate it by force, that was always the object preceding Somalias internal crisis.
@@Somali.Pirate1 If Kenya didn't control that area it would just be controlled by either warlords or Al-Shabaab. It is only because it is in Kenya that they found refuge and safety provided by Kenyan tax payers.

They should be given movement and work permits.
Kenya or any other country won't be able to absorb that many people.
It will cost the hosting country more problems than it can help.
WE HAVE HELPED THEM ENOUGH,ITS MORE THAN 30 YEARS NOW,WE ALREADY GAVE THEM A PLATFORM AND A KENYAN PASSPORT TO TRAVEL TO WHEREVER THEY WANT,GIVE A MAN A FISH,THEN TEACH HIM HOW TO FISH,AND YOUR WORK IS DONE.
I am afraid the way Somalia is going he wont be leaving this place soon, we must have done something terrible in the sight of Allah for such punishment to be sustained.

The government should apply a filter system. Take the brightest and most talented of the group and give them access to education and later work permits. Give them a way to obtain citizenship and let them contribute to the economy. As it stands no one is gaining anything.
