      Plasma 6.0.x was good, 6.1.x is barely usable due to a truly horrible bug that causes a lot of Plasma components to crash when display power saving is enabled.

    By the looks of it, it's the same laptop that Tuxedo sells. Those laptops have issues with USB-C charging and by default are set to prioritize battery charging instead of performance when on USB-C power. Tuxedo's Control Center has a toggle for this, but the laptop still underperforms on USB-C power, even if the battery is at 100%. You need to be plugged into the barrel charger in order to achieve max performance.

    • @fortifyve
      @fortifyve 2 месяца назад +1

      That is not its biggest issue, because customization does exist and is powerful with KDE. I think its biggest issue is it's utterly littered with bugs, everywhere, all the time, no matter what, bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs. GNOME has its own unique drawbacks but is 100x more stable. I'm personally ditching both of them for the cosmic DE when it has a stable release.

    I'm not a big fan of System76 computers. I bought a Lemur 6 laptop from them in 2015 or 2016. It came with a half working space key. Not good. I later bought a replacement keyboard and the replacement also did not have a fully functioning space key. Because of that it mostly sat in the laptop case unused for a couple of years. Later I decided to use it for distro hopping. I still have no idea what was wrong with it, but if I ran anything other than Pop!_OS the laptop would suddenly shutdown as if it had no power even though it was plugged in. Just yesterday I drug it out again and installed UB Bluefin on it and half of the keys were mapped to numbers instead of the correct letters. I just gave up and re-installed Pop!_OS on it. I'll probably just end up giving it away to a niece or nephew.

    After genuinely despising using Windows 11 on some Lenovo laptop, I picked up the HP ZBook Fury G7 I had from a cousin and pushed Debian 12 (Wayland, Gnome) onto it.
    Anyway, the biggest issue that I've had by far was getting the non-nouveau NVidia drivers working. Because the whole OS drive is LUKS this was painful ... but I got there in the end. :)

    Quick question. Because your the only one that i can find that seems to know. I am trying to move to Linux, i run Debian testing on all my servers. I am now trying to get programs on my desktop which runs Debian testing. Davinci resolve is the big one it refuses to install because of missing dependencies not available on testing repo. How do i install the needed packages that exist in the stable repo. This is the only thing keeping me on windows.

    • @KisaJeweler
      @KisaJeweler 3 месяца назад

      I'm not sure, maybe it's a dumb answer, but add a Debian stable repo and download the dependencies that u need from it. But it's not recommended to mix versions to be fair

    • @KisaJeweler
      @KisaJeweler 3 месяца назад

      Also, u can try to build DaVinci resolve in the container, harder but will not destroy the system due to incapable versions of packages

      you need to learn apt-pinning and add all relevant repos into apt. i use debian unstable and pinning mesa from experimental and pull certain packages from stable and testing. i never had my system break this way.

      @@nishantshokeen4279 I limit computing on the go as much as possible. I do have a laptop for when I have no other choice. Laptops often (so not always) are a solution for a problem which shouldn't exist, it should suffice if people take their own keyboard and mouse and just use a desktop-PC at their office or university or whatever. In the case of a company and mostly at school (depending on what you study of course) it would suffice to share 1 PC with 10 or so people and just give everybody his own monitor and possibly a keyboard and mouse (I would prefer to use my own anyway).
      I dislike using a laptop because of bad ergonomics and the noisy fan. The monitor is much too small and stands much too low, the touchpad gets in the way of the keyboard because for some weird reason they still put that below the keyboard instead of next to it while there is plenty of space next to it (note that the touchpad can easily be a 1/5th of that size if you set a proper sentivity) and I never had a latpop with a proper keyboard. In regard to ergonomics, the keyboard is too small, that in combination with the low standing monitor makes you sit with a very bad posture (endorotated shoulders, not a straight back). The keyboard being attached to the monitor makes that you can't both have the monitor at the right distance (should be closer) and have the right distance for the keyboard (that should be further away).

    Usually summers are much more brutal in the Netherlands than in Texas because most people here don't have AC, also the humidity is quite high. We typically have a few heatwaves in the Netherlands, around 3-5, and those often last 1-2 weeks. In those weeks it gradually gets hootter, it starts with temperatures of around 30 degrees C and then it gradually increases to 36-42 degrees C with a humidity of 70-99%, especially when the weather is about to change the humidity gets very high due to the western wind over the Atlantic ocean. That humidity easily makes it feel as if it is over 10 degrees warmer. Where I currently live on the lower floor it gradually gets upp to 29/29.5 degrres Celsius inside, with that humidity that is brutal for 24/7 living in that heat or warmer (outside). The only solution is to take a cool shower every 2-3 hours, put your feet in cold water (which warms up quickly) and put a soaking wet towel on your shoulders and neck or make your T-shirt soaking wet.
