Generally not a great idea to buy your home (unless you have a family etc) but better to invest that money in buy to let real estate. I currently have 4 properties that way which brings in a massive monthly rental income plus I benefit from capital growth of all 4 places! That is best way to work your money for you. Having all the money sitting in your residential is a massive waste of putting that capital to work. You can then use rental income to save for more real estate and also pay your own rental . Besides financial I would add that some other pillows to positive life (I am semi retired - only late 30's, MBA and did 6 years in corporate world but now spend all my time investing in real estate and doing what I enjoy) are a partner (having a relationship - positive and who you care about - is part of life to a happier life at least - my life has improved greatly having been in long term relationship for 4 years and will still have our own places so we choose when to spend time together), fitness (gym - I go late at night when empty so have freedom of gym without hassle of people), meditation, keeping diary open for regular contact with friends and family (family is the most important!). That makes for a very happy life.
For the vast majority of the population, their rent/mortgage is their biggest bill. For this reason alone paying off your mortgage always makes financial sense. Yes, you 'could' obtain higher returns from investing the money into other properties. But, you'll still have your own mortgage obligations to meet and (with a huge worldwide crash planned in the very near future) the risk of even losing the roof over your head. There is a reason that interest rates are still at virtually zero, the banks (who own all governments) have a plan.

In the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, the writer tells of a student who couldn't think of what to write about. Once he helps her discover the "key", she finds more and more to write about and can't stop. He also mentions how, in his search for the definition of "quality", his questions only lead to more questions to explore...similar to you finishing one video only to think of another. Some might find the book boring, but there are some interesting points. He gives an argument for universities that give out no grades.
It's fun to make something high quality. Make it last forever and work immensely well. Usually, it will look good without effort because it lasts and works well.
excellent, I subbed. I "retired myself" also at 44. My def of retirement is when your passive cash flow is greater than your living expenses and you are debt free other than good business debt, one example being a rental property secured with mortgage. So, you are never really retired, I have a home that is between tenants now and I have a company doing a 3 week rehab, landscapers, and I have to visit that and be the project mgr. Then the ongoing management of the real estate, pay bills, taxes, accounting, lots of excel spreadsheets, etc. Then you have to keep an eye on your dividend stocks, and read the reports, so maybe if you have say a few rentals, and some stocks, you will average about a 5-10 hour work week, no commuting, from home. The word retire is the person getting a pension check, and then absolutely nothing to do ever, just pray the checks keep coming. The rest of us, will manage investments, and always work a little bit. Obviously I worked my but off for 35 years, and now I do not have any electronics in my bedroom, no alarm clock, I fall asleep on the couch for hours a day, I try not to leave my home if possible. Pro tip, when you buy a house, the one you will "retire" in, make sure you like it, and the home office has a nice view or vibe, cause you will be a homebody to keep the budget low. I love my 3 br + office house, I paid it off in 7 years as a Realtor, and like this host I have my expenses down to about 1800 a month, with reserves for house and auto repair. A paid off home is cheaper than living in a camper car, as my house appreciates more than my monthly budget, tax free for now. With a paid off home you can retire with about $1500 a month not including home and auto repairs. Also, I have a Samsung 7 still, and a 2004 Expedition with 214k miles, mint and I (like this host)prefer the homeless look most of the time, and it keeps me safe. So that is my 2 cents, work hard, pay off your house, invest in cash flowing assets, and learn how to be happy home alone with the simple things. My favorite hobbies now are reading the bible, staring at my 14ft vaulted ceilings, and walking at the beach where I live. Being wealthy is not what people think. When your rent check comes in, or a dividend hits the account, you will be addicted to reinvesting, and eating home cooked meals. Oh yeah, I cook all my meals mostly organic and from scratch. More videos on doing nothing! One of my quotes "I like all my time to think about all my time" Also, shutting it down when you get enough to retire is very healthy and sane. We all know people who get to that 1-5 mill net worth and go obsessive, work-oholic narcissists, and they never have enough ,and they take the world down with them. Help the needy when you get there. @TigerEyes Another way of getting what you need/want without spending money. It is a 2 for one. Creating is fun and satisfying. Not spending and saving is fun and satisfying
Having recently retired I can see where you're coming from. My commute was horrendous. Now my commute is from my bedroom to the kitchen. Also being able to sleep in is great. I used to have to get up at 4:30 in the morning. Ugh! I did notice after about four months I needed something to do. So I took a part-time job completely different from what I used to do. I'm still in the initial stages and trying to decide if I want to stick with it or not. Best tip I have for others is to enjoy your life but definitely start putting money aside. You can put aside more than you think. When you get older you get to the point of : okay this is enough. That's even if you enjoy what you're doing.
I love your videos. You are routine driven like me. My routine is #1 - listen to your video every morning even if i have already viewed. #2 listen to THW-online bible - thats a new thing for me and it does make alot of sense. 3. Log in and start work. I no longer have a commute either and that has a positive result. Most people dont understand how stressful and wasteful commuting can be. I also make bread. Thrift stores have the best deals on brand new appliances. My bread maker was 8.99.Have a great day. #loveyourchannel.
At first I thought you lived frugal because you cling onto finance but really, you just want the freedom to do what you enjoy. That being said, kudos. You're living the life i'd want to have.
I enjoyed this video. It is inspiring to see that you live a life you enjoy while pursuing your goals. Also a good idea for eating in silence. Many times we do not allow ourselves to experience those moments of silence.
Yes... except RUclips video making days. It is hard work but I really like the outcome of this video. It is just a snapshot of new ones I plan to make.
I made a Lego stand for my devices a few years ago. It made me happy to see yours as they are a similar design. I wonder what other practical things I can make from Legos now.
=D Just something to support it and perhaps at the right angle. I suppose you can make a utensil holder. Seems like lego is best for holding other things rather than the actual useful item itself.
So glad you haven't given up on decluttering. I know a lot of people literally struggle with getting rid of things, even when they know the don't need it. I love getting rid of things. I take good care of my belongings and can donate them to Salvation Army if they are still useful (not out of date). So, bravo. I look forward to hearing you say, "Guess what? Excellent and honest video that not only incorporates and delineates an element of freedom but also organized forward proactive thinking and most important (IMHO) ACTION! Personally, I find this very useful either as a current model or a goal to strive for or as a curiosity if the viewer happens to be Madonna. Keep up the good work and vblog. What about travel ? I moved out of the bay area... my commute went from 3.5 hours a day to 12 minutes. I still have a regular job but just the commuting alone is life changing. I have so much more time for activities!
I've recently quit my job to retire early and only take care of my blog, which has become my main source of income. Every bit of what you say applies to me. Isn't it wonderful not to have a commute anymore, to be able to wake up when you feel like it, not to be tired all the time, to have the freedom to do this or that, or to change your mind: "oh actually not today, I prefer to do this instead". It's freedom. Now my only fear is that since all my friends have "regular" jobs, they are all busier than me and so less available to hang out. I might be bored more often. The challenge for me now is to find new interesting things to do to make use my time (sport, non-profits, societies, lessons, travelling, etc.) Thank you for the video. It's nice to see other people out there following this life path.
I love your simplicity and minimalism. I currently work a 50-60 hours a week and the last two years ive been able to save nearly 70% of my income. Thanks to you im sure ill be able to hit 80% this year. I am only 24 and can't see myself staying in the rat race much past 40. Did you always know you wanted to retire early and be able to do the type of work that your passionate about?
I didn't know it was even possible. I just saved a lot automatically. And when I got within a few years, I started to realize it might be possible. I had been passionate about electrical engineer as I like to build electronics. But a typical job does not really do much of that.
@@BeatTheBush I am lucky to live in a very affordable city and have a pretty good salary for my age. Not as good as you im sure though, I did not attend college. Whenever I'm taking the train to get to my university in the mornings, I absolute despise it. I look at the hundreds of people around me all doing the same thing, many with exhausted or depressed faces. Then I get home at 6pm, eat, and am too exhausted to do anything I want/enjoy. I am so glad I found your channel. Its very inspiring and I completely agree with you frame of thinking. Autonomy = Happiness, not money.
Yet another day... same as the day before. I put some of these clips to emphasize just that. Sort of tough love type thing to encourage people to realize how stupid it is to work extra to buy things that devalues quickly, harms the environment, etc.

When I reached 60 (I retired at 59), I found that not only did I get rid of clutter, I got rid of lots of things I did not use or really need. I got rid of lots of tools (gardening, mechanics and carpenters). I also got rid of lots of home decorations. I had a large Teddy Bear collection, all in pristine condition, that i gave to Toys for Tots. I also got rid of most of my snow globe collection, keeping only the Santa Clause themed snow globes. Each year, i seem to get rid of more. I have found there are not enough hours in the day for things I do. The difference is i do them on my schedule, not the university where I use to teach. And as you stated, I also do not have that commute to the university each day. Even though I commuted by train, I no longer have that stress. As an introvert, i have found that i am never lonely either. My need to be with people is not anywhere close to those people who are extroverts. But that is me, only 10% of people are introverts and feel like me about being with people. Extroverts would probably get involved in lots of clubs, voluntary work and community activities. Oh well just thought I would throw in my two cents.
I’ve noticed you did not mention physical exercise. Even easy stuff like jogging outside for 1 mile every day will go a VERY long way in regards to productivity and general happiness.
Seeing all those DVDs and books made me nervous because you said you were decluttering..... I hope you have a library card. It’s free and after you finish watching or reading you don’t have to declutter those items. And saves loads of money too!

Can't be in a dirty or clutter space.
The art of tidying up, a Japanese lady wrote it.
I saw RUclips videos.
Helped a lot.
My drawers have organization system in them.
It's a breeze to find anything.
=D So many benefits. Saving time not trying to find stuff is a good enough reason already.
You have a good morning routine and schedule for yourself. The Lego stands are epic! Your head is certainly on straight with the positive direction you are going! :D
@TigerEyes Another way of getting what you need/want without spending money. It is a 2 for one. Creating is fun and satisfying. Not spending and saving is fun and satisfying
I was going to sell the Legos for very cheap. So it was a great deal. Now I am happy to look at my creation. It took hours to do though.
I guess I have plenty of things I want to do and jobs just takes away too much time I need.
Whoa! Re listen to my vid? Thank you! Wow... you got the bread maker for $9? Mine was given to me because they didn't want it anymore.
Thanks BTB, you've been a big help to me with your videos 👍😁
I want to say thank you, I now have a credit rate of 850.

Wow the overall quality has improved drastically over the one year I’ve been subscribed to this channel
Thanks! Trying my best.
You had me at Star Trek Deep Space Nine!. Are they Blu Ray?
I don’t know how I found this video but I love this channel. What you described is what I work every day for
This is a NEGATIVE comment
No it's not.
Looks like you forgot to include a "fuck you".
@@BeatTheBush Think TheWastelandGuy wrote that to get a comment from you :)
BTB, you are on the right track. Just keep going. 👍🏼
Are you checking the comments at this very moment? And by the way, very informative video, it really draws you in to keep on wanting to watch more.
I check it when I respond. Just like right now. Thanks for watching!
Oh yeah yeah btw this is a meme btb
At first I thought you lived frugal because you cling onto finance but really, you just want the freedom to do what you enjoy. That being said, kudos. You're living the life i'd want to have.
Video idea: money and culture relationship
I enjoyed this video. It is inspiring to see that you live a life you enjoy while pursuing your goals. Also a good idea for eating in silence. Many times we do not allow ourselves to experience those moments of silence.
Feels like every day is a Saturday for BeatTheBush.
Hahaha
Yes... except RUclips video making days. It is hard work but I really like the outcome of this video. It is just a snapshot of new ones I plan to make.
I really enjoy the style of these last 2 videos @BeatTheBush
Your enjoyment is noted. Gosh it takes a lot of work. =D
I'll bet you beat the bush at home all day
I love you man! Thank you so much for the value you bring to us❤️❤️
I hope to do more. Something more material.
Why does your bed creak when you turn around?
I dunno. I haven't noticed it.
Why wouldn't it?
@@BeatTheBush clearly heard ....
@@BeatTheBush :-) Maybe when a person lives frugul, they stop hearing creaks, stop seeing feathers,... :-)
Wow this sounds lonely as hell
Not for everyone. I think this might drive some people crazy but I do it on purpose.
My home is officially decluttered."
Still tossing things away. It's a long project.
Do you have any tips on how to grow a RUclips Channel? That would be a nice topic
Peeling an orange is a start.
@@golnir7458 hhhhhhhhhhhh
I have a playlist on making a RUclips channel.
Hi btb: I too retired pretty early and as past time, created my RUclips channel. I love your what I do all day video idea. If you don’t mind, maybe I will do one my version too. I will give you credit for sure. I have been watching lots of your videos. Thank you for the entertainment and information. P.S. yes, I don’t use alarm clock anymore too! 🤗
Do you ever go to the gym?
no need to really. super skinny already and not concerned about building muscles to show off for girls
@@genwunner6783 Go to the gym and improve your brain. It's a physical thing in your body as much as it is something that needs sensory input. (Einstein knew it, Alan Turing knew it, Tesla knew it.)
Wow! Your days seem so chill
It really puts my whole mind at maximum potential to get enough sleep everyday.
A person spends 30% of his life in bed, so it is right and important to make an investment in a good bed, mattress, pillows, blanket, sheets. It is wrong to save money on bed or food! If you have a bad bed or bad food, then you will pay the doctor.
In the car, you spend less time than in bed, so take care of your bed.
Ok.
Sleeping on the floor is better than a bed. And his diet looks ok for me.. is not like he works out or anything.
30% bed 30% sofa 30% toilet 10% in the garden
Man, you use your time so wisely and thoughtfully. Something to aspire to.

Exercise? Socialization? Building and planning for the future, since I believe, if we’re not growing, we’re dying.
Sometimes I make vlogs on my travels. I cant record people if I go socialize and sometimes, it just gets in the way.
When are you going to find a girlfriend?
Cant live this lifestyle if you do....
I just started watching your channel. Great work.
Thank you! And welcome!
I moved out of the bay area... my commute went from 3.5 hours a day to 12 minutes. I still have a regular job but just the commuting alone is life changing. I have so much more time for activities!
Nice!
Good stuff man, living the dream!
=D
I like your new style. It's more consist and to the point
I'm glad. =D
I appreciate how meticulous he is at preparing his breakfast and eating it in silence. I appreciate the peace that comes from this.
I think this is my favorite video yet.
Thank you!
i like how dis video is in 60fps .. it shud be a standard to all youtuber as well.. so fluid. more engaging
I mean... some people really like 24fps for movie like videos. It's an on going debate. Personally, I like more information.
This video made me so happy
=D I'm glad! =D
The challenge for me now is to find new interesting things to do to make use my time (sport, non-profits, societies, lessons, travelling, etc.)
Thank you for the video. It's nice to see other people out there following this life path.
that's my dream!!!!!
you're a star! love ur jacket btw.. nice vid.
Those lego stands are dope as fuck
thanks beatthebush!
Absolutely great video!
I’m 40 sec into the video and I’m already laughing so hard. I really love your sense of humor.
=D TY!
Glad I stumbled upon your videos. Interesting insights and a pretty awesome approach to modern life.
=D
I am very fortunate to be able to see people like you who actually did it to continue to give myself inspiration and a goal to work towards. Thanks for the videos, keep making them. People may hate on you for your frugality, but know your helping so many others. Thanks man
This guy living the life tbh. Getting up whenever he wants is goals
Yeah I'm definitely on a process of getting rid of a lot of my crap and it does help lift some mental barriers because you're getting rid of this junk
@2:20 DeCluttering is positive way of life. Jordan Peterson (and others) say the clutter in your house, especially your bedroom, is a reflection of the clutter in your mind. Like the lego tablet stand, that was pretty cool !
Love the cooking show!
BTB, thank you for sharing your daily life with me. Although there are some things that I admire about what you have done, I cannot imagine it is for me. But it makes me think about what I would do if I were to retire early.
Genius BTB!!! I love your philosophy and (by large extent) live by it! :-)
=D Thanks!
I love watching your videos. You're just you and it works for you. Thanks for sharing your life experiences. I pick up here and there to incorporate it in my life. Very helpful, ignore the haters. They wish they could wake up whenever they want like you. The ones that are making fun are living in their mom's house playing video games, lol !!!! Stay smart and focus. More fun, educational and your life videos to come 🤗
=D Very much appreciate the positive comment. Thanks!
Hahaha the LEGO stands! The engineer force is strong with this one.
=D I like them A LOT. It's rare to build functional things out of Lego that you can use everyday.
Deep Space 9 is the best!!

I like your lifestyle. I’m studying computer engineering and hope to follow in your foot steps XD

Any advice for a 16 year old? Your pretty old compared to me aha
Funny how you have less stuff but do more. More of things you want to do and more satisfying. I'm glad you found your way. =D
I'm an introvert and love my alone time no need for social interaction.

I’ve noticed you did not mention physical exercise.
Even easy stuff like jogging outside for 1 mile every day will go a VERY long way in regards to productivity and general happiness.
=D I agree. I do that but not everyday.
@@BeatTheBush What supplements do you take?
Seeing all those DVDs and books made me nervous because you said you were decluttering..... I hope you have a library card. It’s free and after you finish watching or reading you don’t have to declutter those items. And saves loads of money too!
