I have 2 sons. My older son is named Ali. My younger son is named Nuriddin. The last name is Muhammad. I always loved those names. I was calling them by their names while I was carrying them inside of me. We are American born and live in the United States. They love their names.
When parents are naming a child, they have to keep in mind what the name means. They must also keep in mind that the child will be called, and how he or she will be referred.
I always follow to ummul mumenin.
I inspired by them in my life. I'm so happy that my name is sawda.

Thanks mufti. I was actually going to change my name after 22 years. The only reason, the meanings didn’t satisfy me and didn’t relate with my dream. I want to be as my name. I choose also the perfect way to remember my dream every time.
Same too I’m still struggling can’t find a name in Arabic that connects me on a specific name in English very simple but I still want to look for one in Arabic ... inshallah
I was going to keep Andrew for myself as a revert. The reason being is it means, “strong man.” My interpretation in that is that my faith in Allah is strong and growing stronger. I chose Isa, I was Christian so I understood some truths of Jesus, then studying him more I grew to understand him more and it reminded me of why I chose Islam.

Before I took my shahada I was a young mum 18 years , but I always knew what a name meant to carry something more than a name . I sat in the hospital and read a full book of maybe 10 000 names , in the end the only name I could relate to was safia, pure , innocent and a good friend. She really is very innocent at now age 16. I love that I choose a Muslim name despite then not taking my shahada or knowing nothing about Islam
Alhamdullilah I am blessed with a baby boy and I named him Muhammad cause I really had a stressful pregnancy the doctors were telling me very bad news about my baby so I changed his name from Muhammad abbas to only Muhammad cause I knew that this is a perfect name for him inshallah he will get better soon he is in the nicu pray for him please

I had to change my name via deed poll because I was bullied for in school. We thought long and hard whilst deciding what to name my daughter. We are of Persian Tajik descent, and loved the Persian name Soraya. A week before she was due, I kept repeating her name in an English accent, and I thought it sounded too similar to "Psoriasis'. I did not want my daughter to go through what I went through. I named her Sofia Zara

The easiest way to find out if a name has a different connotation in the local language, ask your friends and coworkers what they think. I had a coworker who named her daughter something that was hard to pronounce but we didn't want to offend her so we called the baby "your daughter".
