Coming from a 97 Saturn sl1 owner, 102k miles, 5 speed manual, very nice cheap car, good gas mileage 35+, mine doesn’t look very nice but I keep it clean and it treats me well. (I would also like to mention the mint hail damage on it aswell) Definitely worth getting the sc1!
As someone born in 2001, the more I watch your videos about you reviewing the older vehicles the more I like seeing them, keep up the great work Mr.Randy I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos
The manual trans is the only thing that would keep me personally from buying it, because the damage is mostly cosmetic and whatever is wrong with that passenger side front wheel could easily be fixed so if it was automatic with the addition of suicide doors I would snap it up without a second thought
I bought an 2000 SW2 new, and yes, they did have a small shake at idle. The car was great for most of it’s life. The auto trans did fail because it had the bad bolt that they were known for and we didn’t find it was loose until it was too late. Found a good used trans with the same miles and installed it myself (after replacing the bad bolt and all the seals.) I was able to slide it in through the wheel well because they are so small. Ended up giving it to my niece to go to collage in where it met it’s end by a distracted diver that ran into the back doing 45.
Get the saturn,it's awesome. I like the subaru, I had 1in my life before,it was a Tribeca, I sold it couple years ago, great car. Hey,thanks to you,I want an f-150 now, being a die hard chevy guy. Thanks for the great content, I never miss one.
randy, i have a custom, 1999, sc1. saturn, 5 speed with 285,000 on the clock, and still going strong! the motor, never been cracked open. and i enjoy it! just normal maintance,
Really hope you get that Saturn! I recently needed a second car and picked up a pristine 2001 SL2 5-SPD DOHC and absolutely love it. Brilliant little car and has been nothing but reliable. And yeah, it definitely has that shake too. Glad to hear it’s normal.
REALLY want to see more of that Subaru wagon as well. I think that could be a really great & fun commuter toy. ALSO think if it was cleaned up it could really bring a pretty penny.
Holy smokes Randy, the Saturn SC1 has *LITERALLY* got your name on it! This is Bring a Trailer material, I'm shocked it's at IAA. Also more shocked that someone would give it up after a cracked fender. Oh no! What'll we do?! I really want the Saturn on this channel!!!
I had a 2001 Saturn SC1 before my current car. Great car overall, no major issues while I had it. Certainly not the most comfortable ride (being an econo box), yet zippy and cool with the suicide door. Sometime after selling it, the transmission went on it. Engine would still run.
@@SizzDoesIt I do not recall the # (as it has been a while). Definitely under 200, 000km, again, could not tell you what the number remotely was otherwise.
A 35K mile Saturn and a 20K mile Subaru! You need those both Randy what a great video as well to see both of those cars. That Saturn is a time capsule with that mileage! The Subaru is pretty sweet as well. Love the videos as always great to watch!👍👍
You should buy the Saturn personally and give it to Nick. It would make a pretty nice first car and a great learning experience if you get him to help you prep it for the road.
Youve GOT to get the Saturn 🪐 shes an absolute bute!!! It completely deserves to be restored. A trip to the auto spa would literally make that thing look like it came off the showroom floor. First time I've ever gotten excited about a Saturn!!
I was just as excited as you were seeing that Saturn!!! I learned to drive stick in one of those when I was 7 with my grandpa. The one I learned in was a station wagon though!
I LOVE that saturn, no frills, low mile (manual a huge plus) cheap transportation. Great daily driver to put miles on cheaply. Those are my kind of cars that allow me to save the miles on the fun drivers
Man, I’d drive the wheels off that Saturn! Great A-B cars, great economy and reliability! I’ll never see one of those, in that condition, at that price, around here!
Hey Randy, I just got done watching your part walk around this afternoon. I just got done watching it just a minute ago you do a fantastic job keep the Contant coming man I love everything you do as usual. I hope you’re doing OK today and please be safe out there. I’ll see you on your next video. Talk to you later.
I have a 2005 Saturn Vue "Pacific Blue" with 136000 miles on it, 4 cylinder 5 speed manual, have owned it going on 13 yrs, in very good condition, power windows locks and sunroof, I put 20 miles a month on it now, reg maint at a local garage, it is a keeper for me, I have people at the garage ask about it, lots of interest when I take it in.
Starting out I would love to have had the Saturn as a first car. If I had a teenager in high school, that would have been a great first car to get them.
I always wanted one of those SCs with a manual as a cheap run around car but even years ago they were asking too much. These days they’d want $10K at least. On the Subie, I’d trade your hail damage for northeast rust any day. Hail is cosmetic, with rust your fenders fall off.
I’ve had two Saturns I regret selling my 97 sl1 auto. I bought it for 600 bucks in 2019 sold it to some girl for profit and she still daily’s it with over 220k miles! Amazing cars!
I love that Saturn, Randy, you should definitely get it. If it weren't so far away from where I live I would bid on it too. It's pretty much my ideal spec I would've chosen, and it's such low mileage too.
Hey Randy I love your videos and everything you do bringing old cars back to life and helping them find new homes. My grandma sent her 2004 Chevy Impala with the 3.4l v6 (sadly not the 3.8l v6) but she sent it to some place called american auto ? She lives in catoosa and it's some sort of local auto auction I believe and I'd love for you to somehow find it if you could. It's a maroon color as a kid I always called it purple but it's maroon and the paint is pretty bad, it's pretty much sat since 2017 after her mother passed away because she got her 2004 Buick LeSabre so sadly she just never touched the Impala after that. I grew up in that thing and I'd love to see it again! Thank you for taking the time outta your day to even read this
I had a 97’ SC2 5 speed. It was fully loaded. I had it in college and into my first job. It had 189,000 miles and ran and drive like new. One of the best cars that I ever owned. GM really destroyed Saturn when they mainstreamed them with their junk. They were such great cars!!!
Yep, I believe the 3. Door Saturn model was SC1 and that is a excellent car. Great gas mileage. Easy to get part for you. Got to walk away with this one
Get that Saturn Randy she already has your name on her! I've had Cadillac Jags and Mercedes. Anytime I have to pay to play I scream I miss my f*n Saturn's!! My family and I have had tremendous luck with Saturn's....buy her and good luck
Loved all my saturns! This particular year Only issues known were the water pump bearings go out around 100k miles sounds like marbles in your engine! But it’s just a water pump bearing! It’s actually very easy to do with yourself
I worked at a Saturn dealership in New Orleans years ago, and there was a SL2 that had 427,000 documented miles. They are known to get upwards of 500,000 miles with proper maintenance. GET THAT SATURN
My grandma had a 2005 Chevy trailblazer LS with 260,000 miles and it ran just fine and she gave it to my uncle for a work car and when he sold it, it had 300k miles and ran perfectly.
The Sunfire and Cavalier was the same car as that Saturn SC 1 and all were made not to last, a GM Strategy to give their loyal customers to Toyota and Honda !
That Saturn is a deal... great car for a kid. That Subaru worried me until you pointed out the hail damage... if it was undamaged, I would have thought it went in for the oil change and they pointed out it had a leaky head gasket (hence the coolant), but now I bet the owner was a stickler and/or insurance paid out a lot due to the low mileage. But what's the ATF for? Power steering? Manual transmissions usually take much thicker fluid, differentials even more so.
Buy the Subaru, I had one for a few years and loved it. It was imported from Japan and was chipped and I could wined it off the speedo clock! When I bought it I wondered why it had a aftermarket digital speedometer, when I hit 180kmh the needle stopped working 😂 You have to buy it 🤙
Being a dealer myself, Randy, a lot of people absolutely don't have any common sense when it comes to talking shit. They need to think before they speak!
Randy I have a 2005 Toyota Camry at my auction right now with 59k miles, service records including 30k trans fluid change, 4 Toyota keys and fobs, brand new 2023 tires on clean rims, it's going to go for 8-9 grand regardless of MMR in this market. I want it for myself but our customers will get pissed if I take it for a demo.
why would a vehicle with a manual transmission have a bottle of ATF in the trunk (Sube).🤔 (by the way your hail damage explanation was spot on but don’t u know people r probably trolling u😀).
You should definitely get both the Saturn and Subaru. As for hail damage - if you get it cheaper and want a driver, who cares. Bought a small van for my father in law's business a couple of years ago that was dimpled like a golf ball but the glass was fine and it was really cheap so he was happy driving it. Quick question Randy - can't you get the insurance payout for the damage and keep the car ? Over here (Germany) that's possible and I've done it myself once.
You gotta get that Saturn! That is the definition of a diamond in the rough…and really, it’s not that rough. Love it

That Saturn could fetch some money on Cars&Bids! Low mileage and stickshift, perfect recipe!
It's worth getting for sure! 35,000 miles, and it's plastic so it doesn't get dents easily.
