After riding multiple Harleys for 40 years, sold it last year and got a 2023 300SM last month. Should have done this years ago. Never had so much fun on a bike.

@@HaoVu1 What you say about taming a 600 is spot on. I'm in several Facebook motorcycle groups,. Everybody thinks they are Rossi on a 600, yet wrecks are posted almost every other week during riding season. Too many think they have more skill than they actually do until its too late.

@@ComfyDadShoes I live about 30 mins from with like 4 different routes I can take so it’s a blast for me! But I would defiantly think about changing the seat if you commute an hour+ one way! But I love it, I’ve put 200 miles and about 6 hours in on Sunday and drove it to work on Monday. I mostly drive my truck but this thing is such a fun commuter!!

You are 100% correct. Upright seating may seem old fashioned to a few, but the true fun side of motorcycles is missed by many only because they haven't tried it. We can thank Adventure bikes for bringing it back into popularity (I never thought it would happen). Super Moto just brings it to another level of flick-ability and fun!

This is one of the best real world, non pretentious videos regarding modern motorcycling. A down to earth good guy speaking the truth about bikes and what is needed and what is completely unnecessary for everyday riding. I was on the fence but after this video I’m in on this model. Only question now is what color. Thanks!

I bought a z900 beautiful bike but it made me forget about enjoying the road and view, I was just thinking about going fast , I did 157mph very often until one day I crashed very bad .
Now I just want to commute again , go to the park and have fun , parking lots practice and do some track days

Thanks for the beautiful and scenic ride thru the mountains. It took me a long time to figure out what you have after only a couple of bikes. Lighter and ergonomically comfortable bikes are way more fun than heavy supersport bikes and cruisers. I chose the KTM 390 adventure over the Kawi 300 sm and I love it. I recently found a 2021 KLX 300 SM with 400 miles on it for $5200 and will be adding it to the collection.
Can't wait! I will never buy another supersport or cruiser bike ever again. Lightweight is so much more fun. I started racing motocross when I was 12 and I still race to this day in the veterans class and recently turned 59 years young, however my mindset has changed and now, whether on the street or on the dirt track my only goal is to have fun and live to race/ride another day.

I’ve had my full bike license for 6 months now & went from a 125cc to a Triumph street triple 675r & I feel like I’m in the same boat as you. It has performance way beyond my abilities. Hard suspension & a sporty position although not as extreme as your 600rr. I’m not having as much fun as I did on my 125cc. It’s nice having the power to get up a hill or push into a head wind but that’s it. After that it’s just intense concentration & taming the power. I’m seriously considering a Honda CRF300L as we don’t get the KLX300 in the UK. I think it will be the perfect compromise of power & fun for the riding I want to do.
    Great video & nice bike.

Agreed!! The Ergonomics of the super Moto dirtbike style is what’s so alluring. The real fun is 0 to 60 speeds. Just so darn comfortable And great visibility with the mirrors that I use as 360° radar. Constantly monitoring cars all around me near and far. You want to be upright and take in your environment as it’s flying by you.

I went from a KTM 1190 to a CRF250 Rally, only because I'm old now. I wish I'd done that yrs ago, I can take the little Honda places I wouldn't consider on a big bike. Supersport makes sense for me bc I love going to the track. Been to 5 track days in the last 3 months and looking to get into club racing next year. I don’t ride it on the street much anymore. Definitely looking into getting a supermoto as a second bike though. Red lights suck on my 636 in the city. Takes me 30 min to get to country roads now. My bikes before this were Honda nx250, z125 pro, z400, ninja 400, and now a 636 and Talaria mx4. I took the slower route to perfect my skills 😂

I'm going to have to change my account name. 😁 I'm selling my 636 and getting a KLX300 dual sport this weekend. I have the seat time and skill to push the 636 to its limits but it's going to get me killed because track day fun tends to leak over into weekend riding way too easily. I've found that my favorite thing about motorcycling is the adventure of going places I wouldn't normally go. The dual sport seems like the ideal bike for me at this point in my riding life.

I have to break every speed limit to use the full potential of that engine.

I agree with some of what your saying in your video. I rode a cbr600f3 (first bike) for 2 years and zx636r for 2 years… and i was comfortable riding those 2 machines…. I was cornering hard and always comfortable in the powerban of the bike, but i felt like i had to break the law all the time to have fun. It was getting ridiculous. Pushing my limits on those machines meant cruising at 180km/h on highway. Going 100km/h in a 50 zone to corner and then lane splitting on highway. I was getting used to living with the danger.
But now years later i became a father and want to pick up riding and just have fun and maybe pop low speed wheelies this SM life looks fun and less risky and less taunting to be risky on road. Just fun!

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago - Picked up a CBR600RR and it’s a whole different world sure. The test ride hooked me but longer term? Mmm this is starting to quickly show it’s disadvantages. Hindsight.
And here I am with the 600RR watching and wanting to get a KLX or a DRZ.
Everything you said is so true. Even as an experienced rider, I know both sides now and I KNOWWW the sumo is way better before even riding it.

So here's where I am at. I have a KLR650, about 6000 miles on it, 2000 of them put there by me. I ride 30 miles every work day on a 55mph two-lane road where everyone does 70+. Sometimes, there's a 30 minute line of traffic waiting at the border patrol checkpoint coming home. The panniers can transport all my work gear, and they're also great for getting groceries, or doing the laundry. I'm absurdly tall, so tall I have dropped the pegs, added riser links to the suspension, and i'll get a taller seat eventually. The bike, though, has fuck all passing power at 65-70. It really doesn't want to go faster than 85, and getting there needs a long bit at WOT. This would seem to preclude any trips on Interstates. idk. The 300SM looks amazing, but from how you've described it, it's got even less guts at 70 MPH.
Sport bike - won't physically fit me, tho i'd still buy a ZX-25R if it were sold in the U.S.
Most Standards - are air cooled and would overheat in Texas sun and traffic.
Adventure bikes - are fuck off expensive.
Cruisers - are hideous and can't handle shit roads.
I seem stuck. I'm definitely gonna stick with the KLR until I have ridden as many miles as I spent in dollars. IDK what after that, though.

Where a supermoto or a dual sport is really interesting, is on really tight twisties with some broken pavement. I used to have a KLR650 with street tires and a big front brake kit, and I used to run away from GSXR's in the tight stuff- I could hit a big cross-grain rut when I was leaned way over, and it would just shrug it off. Sports bikes would blast past me on the next straight, and then I would just reel them in again when the road tightened up again!

I own an xt600 dual sport and a suzuki intruder 800, never bought a rocket as everyone i know that had one ended up not liking that riding position all the time. Yea, a race bike for a commuter is kind of pointless, really thinking about getting one of these, love the upright riding position.

Excellent ride, known problems which may show up over time: odometer/display gets the blue screen of death. No repair, time to replace. And the cam chain tensioner can stick, no bueno. I found I could ride 10-12 hours in the saddle in the 105F Thai heat. Yes, big smiles!

I also had my share of fun on rockets. I no longer enjoy being slumped over a gas tank. I have been debating between the KLXSM, Z400, or Z900. I still want something that will handle the interstate and maybe a day trip. Still researching but your input is on point. Thank you.

    • @nephilymbass1
      @nephilymbass1 2 года назад

Is this interstate riding stuff really that big of a deal? There’s only two roads within hundreds of miles of where I live that have 70-80mph speed limits. Lot of 300cc bikes can get up to 80-100mph. But the bigger issue is they are so light at that speed you get blown all over the road and it’s not fun you also lack passing power. So basically if you want to feel comfortable on the highway that means you have to buy a bike that’s heavy and the tradeoff is then that it’s not as much fun to ride a heavy bike around at normal/slower speeds around town. Probably why so many people that are really into motorcycles have a highway bike and a commuter bike. So they can use the right tool for the job. Personally I don’t think it’s safe to ride a bike on the highways here. Too many people in cars looking at their phones or distracted by passengers or something that will all of a sudden slam on their brakes. That’s exactly how my brother wrecked his Kawasaki ninja by the way. Couldn’t see past the vehicle in front of him, they slammed on the breaks and he couldn’t stop in time and rear ended them. And you can’t really even try to pre plan by creating more space between you and a vehicle in front of you because other vehicles will change lanes and fill the gaps constantly.

I’m getting one within the next few weeks! I’m so excited! I have ridden my boyfriends husky fe 450 supermoto but it’s sooo tall and I’m only 5’2”. Only been able to ride it in a parking lot because it’s so tall I have to stop next to curbs to be able to put my foot down. It’ll be nice to have a super moto that’s a little shorter.

I'm past my sport bike days, and am looking for an enduro of some sort. When I was into sport bikes though, i had a ninja zx-7, and wanted more. You must not have the ability,or desire to ride a sport bike to their potential, but I constantly had mine pushing redline, and trying to keep up with my buddies zx-9. At the time nothing but a bigger sport bike could touch my itch. Now that I'm older and luckily still alive, I've outgrown that riding style. I borrowed a cbr f4i last year and had zero desire to open it up.
