The book every electronics nerd should own

- I just received my preorder copy of Open Circuits, a new book put out by No Starch Press. And I don't normally post about the books I buy, but THIS book is amazing. Anyone who likes electronics, computers, or engineering should consider picking up a copy.
Seeing inside each component gives me a new understanding when I'm breadboarding or prototyping a circuit design-and why some components tend to fail more easily than others!
You can pre-order it on Amazon: amzn.to/3fHTtKT (I bought mine directly from No Starch Press months ago, and they just started shipping it out to the early buyers this week)

Nice loop
Agree. Came here to say this.
Especially that now RUclips seems to have stopped showing the video progress bar in shorts, this site really seems to hate us...
@@p0358 I haaaaaate that. Never know if a short is like 5 seconds or 3 minutes. Also can't scrub back if you miss something, ugh.
@@JeffGeerling why contribute to that with the seamless loop then?
@@JeffGeerling actually if you pause the short it will allow you to scroll back (at least on mobile unsure about desktop)
Woah, the first loop on a short that wasn't super obnoxious or obvious.
Seriously, smooth as hell.
It was terrible for me haha very abrupt
Look up aljokes
short circuit
@@spongmoid842 GENIUS 👏👏👏👏
Nope
There needs to be more books like this. Basically books that draw an interest to electronics for people who are not beginners but aren't experts either.
Do you have any book recommendations for someone like me who wants to learn/get into electronics repair? Thank you
@sonyx5332 Introduction to electronics by Gates and Earl. Thats your best bet, thats where I started.
This looks like a pretty cool book. At a glance, it reminds me of the 'Modernist Cuisine' series of books, but for electronics. One part recipe book, one part science text book, one part photographic coffee table book.
And I love it for all those things-it's one of the few books I bought as a 'probably nice coffee table book', then sat there reading for like an hour before I realized an hour had passed!
The only other coffee table book I remember doing that with was the 'Making of Star Wars' books by Rinzler.
@@JeffGeerling give us a link to the e-book
Give us your recommended reading list!
I was just gonna say I'd love this on my coffee table!
@@JeffGeerling what other books can you recommend?
when a mommy stereo, and a daddy headphone love each other very much, they connect their terminals, and make sweet music together...
does that mean that bluetooth is like a long-distance relationship
@@elektr1x7881 i guess so
@@elektr1x7881 no it's an open relationship
what happens when a no good two timing circuit breaker messes up their happy music?
Y'all 🤭
I think Red Shirt Jeff doesn't want the world to know what happened because of him 🤔
what
?
@John You’ll find out what Red Shirt Jeff did at the start of the video 😉
Because of him, the author is a little too familiar with the inside of a PCB
I remember in school when we had almost like a museum show up to our school and they have tons of stuff like these all cut in half to see how things inside looked and worked. It was a public school and in a not so rich area but man they really did some great things for us. They also had some gold panners show with little rivers on like flower bed like tables with running water and with rocks and sand and we got to see what it was like to pan gold and learned about our countries gold rush in person. There was real gold in the sand and if you found a nugget you got to keep it. Our little public school was ran by a principal and came from a family of teachers it was a great school. On rainy days we watched old black and white movies on a vintage working projector in the schools cafeteria the screen was huge! Like a movie theater sized screen we watched steam boat willy and newer micky and other very very old Disney films. They were very old and vintage and this was in the early to mid 90s.
What city and state was this in?
ah a fellow cali kid?
Best School ever
Вы учились в самой лучшей и полезной школе!💯👍
Talking about good karma haha!
Those teachers and principal are worth their weight in gold, nothing as noble as inspiring new generations, people don't understand that's crucial for our civilization, they'll be the ones running things up when you're old and retired
When the loop is soooo smooth it gets ya. Well played good sir.
It gets your bile to spray out of your mouth from cringe, so smooth!
@@ConceptNull somebody had to say it 👍🏼!
The beauty is in the eye of the circuit holder 😅
I love the technical beauty books with explosion drawings for every day objects. So much thought went into to many details around us, that many people will never see.
That was the smoothest loop I've ever seen!
Then you’re very simple and clueless
Clever loop, m’dude
I wish these wouldn't just loop indefinitely. They're so short that if you don't stop them from playing before clicking to comment, then you just get the same short bit over and over again. No matter how clever or good the content is, it's a bit much. It should only play once by default.
That loop was literally seamless, i didn't notice it and then i was at the part i saw before and was like, wait a minute
Because you’re too much on TikTok
@mettderjeniche7791 bro its been a year, also i don't have tiktok
People are getting scary good at looping these shorts.
That was a Priceless Raspberry Pi!!!
RedShirt Jeff: Not Anymore!
this is the only actually good loop I've ever seen on this app. Hats off!
I just received that book also, probably the coolest picture book I've looked through. The macro photography techniques are impressive also, which are explained in detail at the end of the book.
This is genuinely the coolest book I've ever owned. The sheer amount of work that must have been involved in compiling so many gorgeous inner shots of so many components is mind boggling. But you name it, any component you can think of from passives to ICs to assembled pieces, and this book has a highly detailed, utterly beautiful high res photos of its insides. Worth every single cent and then some.
Agreed. This is a book that will be relevant for decades. One of the few 'coffee table' style books that's actually well worth the space it takes up!
@JeffGeerling Just bought it thank you for the recommend!
Thanks for this. Just bought it. Excited to see it.
Teu comentário foi muito bom.
"The Art of Electronics" is the only electronics book you would ever need.
i got this book for christmas and i love it!
The most impressive use of the shorts format I've seen yet. Love that loop!
Makes me wonder if there's some way to write a skit that makes little to no sense, until a plot twist dependent on the loop is revealed and then only on the second loop onwards does it all make sense.
Tenet (2020) by Christopher Nolan
thats a great idea :)
remind me of "how computers work" i need this book
God damn! That loop is seamless! Well done! Just well done!
This loop is the smoothest that I've seen so far.
This Is The Perfect Loop!!!.
Pre ordered based on your short alone😂😂 cant wait to check it out!!

Thanks for that nanosecond preview of the books *TITLE.*
Thank you, studying to become an engineer and I’ve always wondered about how basic stuff I use everyday actually works.
Because of red shirt Jeff *what*? Oh god, they cut the fiber, Jeff is in trouble! 🤣🤣
it's a loop
@@JacobD. That's what Red Shirt Jeff WANTS you to think!
That's awesome, I think I need it. Jeff, you should drop that ISBN in the description (mainly for us lazy people).
Or those who Just cant Play the video

Thank you for highlighting this book. I'm not the best with electronic components because I don't physically know what's in them. New purchase coming!
I actually got the book at release. First one I’ve pre-ordered since childhood. I love it. Great recommendation!
Man has cut a RPI while I can’t even purchase one due to the outage.
My order got delayed, hey no spoilers man😅😂😂 much love you’re awesome bro
Don't worry, there's like 300 more pages of beautiful imagery in there. I wouldn't spoil it! My favorite page so far is one of the DC motors, I've never seen the windings that way, sliced in half before.
Love the loop it actually makes sense on first opening and on the loop
I love your loops in the videos😅
The illustrator for that 0.8mm stereo jack image knew exactly what he/she was doing when they decided to use "fleshy-pink" as the cross-section color for the female connector.
Dang, smooth loop my guy
I got this book for my birthday. Its awesome.
this is the best loop i've ever seen, well done!
This is the best loop I've ever seen, very smooth.
Man, you nailed the heck out of that loop
🔁
That was the most perfect loop ever made!
That's probably the smoothest loop i've seen
JEFF! It looks like RSJ cut the internet! If you need help, blink twice!
I am weak and I preordered the book. I wish you had a referral link for the sale Jeff.
No worries, I just thought the book is super cool, and wanted to let other people know. I just hope the wait isn't too long!
@@JeffGeerling if you have a referral link please add one. The book looks super cool and would love to support the channel.
That book is amazing as a coffee table book. I've got it. I knew most of it, but it's cool seeing the reality.
I have this book!! Love it. It's sitting on my desk at work just to show people.
Thanks for that nanosecond glimpse of the books *TITLE.* 🙃 Please repost this.
Best use of the loop feature yet
Just got my book, agree it's super cool! Also nice loop!
So yeah, thanks to this short I now own a copy of this book, thanks Jeff
The perfect loop doesn't exis-
Please don't try to loop your video. Many of us don't use the RUclips shorts player and use the normal player. So we just see you end it on a run on sentence.
I hope you can make it through these trying times.
Got this last year and its so cool and nerdy. I love it.
As soon as you opened the book up, I went to amazon and immediately bought it
Enjoy! I bought another copy after giving this one to my Dad!
Aargh the loop is too strong. I cant escape
The humble 3.5mm jack is a marvel of engineering
I swear the loop was so good I thought you said the same exact things 3 times in one video😂😂😂
Best loop I've seen so far!
Can't wait to put this on my shelf and utterly forget about it😂
Short, straight to the point, respect!!!!
I’ve been waiting all my life for a book like that.
King of loops, will look into picking up the book thanks!
It's a lot more fun getting the actual part and taking it to pieces to have a look inside👀
That was THE smoothest transition I've ever seen
LOVE these kind of books!!
Thank you for sharing! I wanted to learn about this information and grateful a book exists.
One of the best loops I've seen in a long time.
That loop was like the only thing that caught my attention 🔥🔥🔥
The best kinda of Shorts videos, when you find out about useful book, post more stuff like this👍👍👍
love watching your breakdowns Goony haha your reviews at the end always give me some sort of new insight to the characters and/or the story that i never thought about during my first watch lol.
This book IS awesome, highly recommend!!! I waited forever for it to come back in stock but now I have it!!!
The sound cable cross-section alone is tickling my brain
I love how youtube shorts showcase this whole new skill of looping.
Cool book too
Thanks for the book Mr.jeff
Dude thanks a lot. Gonna get this book but probably cost me more than 50 bucks in my country.
Bro that loop waa too good!!
Thanks for the introduction, instant preorder!
Looks awesome!
Got it for Christmas last year, very cool!
Got this book a while ago, it’s awesome! Totally recommend it!
Just got this book in last week, really insightful
Yep - bought mine some weeks back & love it !!!!
I needed a book like this. just ordered now
Red Shirt Jeff ate fiberglass
Got this for Christmas and have YET to even look inside it. Whoops. But this short definitely resparked my interest to check it out.
It's too much to consume in one sitting, regardless. I pick it up and look through a few circuits here and there, especially if I'm trying to brush up on something (like last week I looked through the oscillator pages as I was working on some overclocking).
You're the reason I bought this book
Ordered it now 🙌 the beauty, the elegance, I must have it.
Thanks for recommending this book
That is the smoothest loop I've ever seen in my life.
Holy cow! That loop was way too smooth
Thank you for this video.
I searched for this book immediately.
I am just loving this book
Build one from scratch. Like, with raw materials then turn it into whatever it is I’m looking at. I understand it does something but words don’t help. I need to physically see it.
I still love the look and feel of books. 🤗🤗🤗🤗
As a kid, I loved books like this. I'm an engineer today because of them
"Because of Red Shirt Jeff.. We have all be sucked into an endless time loop.. Because of Red Shirt Jeff.."
That pi had so much to live for
Bro how long is this short? i'm still watching it and it doesn't end.
