he symbolism in this MV is crazy - Wendy in the corridor with Seulgi looking through the keyhole representing the lives that were trapped in the ferry - Seulgi walking out of the corridor and being parralel with the water because the ferry tipped before sinking - the ladder joy is on with the water below her - the tea because students said they were eating soup and noticed the soup was tilted - the unknowing of which way is up vs down - the way the girls are sitting around a table with one another because the survivors said the last thing they did before the panic was eating lunch with their friends - the lights turning off as seulgi walks back into the corridor and the most poignant symbolism is regarding yeri 1. the cover of the velvet album has yeri's face blurred because she was the same age as the students in the sewol ferry disaster 2. yeri being in a boat lying down 3. the boat being filled with water as yeri seems to be asleep most of the people on the ferry were school aged kids the same age as yeri and i think the use of yeri to display the disaster makes it even more emotional repost of a comment in the actual video which I think is very interesting
I still remember Seulgi tearing up backstage after they won their first music show for OOTN. Poor girl, she feared the response may not be good bcoz they came back with energetic comebacks n previous ones.
The mv is speculated to be about the Ferry tradegy, where there were 443 passengers on a ship to visit Jeju island, 325 which were students on a school feild trip. The ship unfortunately started to sink, as it was, the students were told to stay put, the ones that followed the order drowned, the ones that didn’t survived. Only 172 survived. After the incident the president got impeached.
Meaning of the MV: The theme of the song is "Shi Yue Hao(South Korea Ferry) Ship Wreck", F(X)'s Red Light is also about the ship. On the album cover Yeri's face is blurred because she was the same age as the victims of the incident. In the MV, Yeri is lying down on the boat representing a student who was sleeping and when she woke up it was too late because everything was filled with water, so she ended up drowning. There a lot of scenes of water in the MV, every member had an escaping option, like Joy climbing ladder, Seulgi opening a window and water going inside Irene's room, and also Wendy crawling under a table. There parts were Seulgi keeps peeking out at a Keyhole, this is because she can't get out from her room and she's watching the ship sink slowly through it. All the members end up dying except for Joy who represents the students that didn't follow orders and escaped. As you can see in the forest secenes Seulgi, Irene, Wendy and Yeri are all wearing white since they passed away and Joy is wearing black, like the students who later on had to attend their friends funerals. And finally, in the album cover everyone is wearing a hood and a candle, they're commemorating the incident. This was a comment in the original MV to give you some context.
Why do some people say the ship name in Chinese? This is my second time seeing someone call it "Shi Yue Hao" so I am curious. (Or maybe that was you?) Isn't it "Sewolho" (세월호) if anything?
Their live performances of “One of These Nights” are also sooo angelic and they put so much emotion not only in their voices but in their facial expressions as well.
They say the meaning of the MV is about two lovers on the 7th July (korean folktale), but i think leans more to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. I think Yeri in the boat sinking symbolises the students that were told to stay put but they eventually drowned (Yeri was the same age at the time as most of the students on the ferry)
@@NOOOODY7 yes I am agree with you simply I love Red velvet and is a reveluv but I do not know this song until few day ago I know this song means about sewol ship tragedy now I addicted to this song haha
In the lyrics “It’s okay if I see you in my dreams” “kkumsogirado gwaenchanheunikka” “gwaenchanheunikka” is another way to say it’s okay” gwaencha = okay “kkumsogirado” “see you in my dreams/even in my dreams” kkum = dreams Korean is has a different writing structure than in English. So lyrics to songs and even when speaking is different than the English lyrics. It’s kind of like japanese, where you have to read it backwards.
I love this song. It always makes me so emotional and the concept is deep to say the least. The MV and the lyrics are not about the same thing, but it still hurts my heart. The Light by The Ark has the same concept as this. You should react to that too, if you want!
on the cover of the album yeri is the only one that is blurred and this refers to the fact that the majority of passengers who died in the accident were minor students. Yeri is was the teenager at that time
"The song is about the story of star-crossed lovers Gyeon-woo and Jik-nyeo. This is the folktale behind Chilseok, a traditional festival celebrated in Korea on July 7 of the lunar calendar As the story goes, Jik-nyeo, the daughter of a king of heaven and a skilled weaver, descends to earth for a visit one day. She meets Gyeon-woo, an orphaned cow herder boy, and they fall in love. She stays with him secretly, and they marry. But the Jade Emperor finds out and separates the lovers. During the moment of parting, they cry with such sorrow that magpies are moved, and they form a bridge across the Milky Way (known as the Ojakgyo Bridge) for the lovers to meet once a year. This annual meeting falls on Chilseok. For the MV: A fan theory that Red Velvet's "One of These Days" is about the Sewol tragedy has gone viral. The theory was posted by blogger freyr25, who saw the MV and thought it was very much referring to the Sewol tragedy"
Its like great ballad song with instrumental harmonic incorporated the emotion of the song mixed with subtle trap drum beats, this truly one of greatest ballad songs that came out of k group for me and dont forget the hidden message behind this song...
Thank you for reacting one of these night! Hope more Red Velvet's contents coming soon. Please discover more their bside songs, Red Velvet has amazing bside songs, all of them are great :)
Yes yes there special something in Joy's voice especially when I listen her OST(dream me) , Always in my heart or when I heard her voice it feels different but in a good way
What's amazing about this release is that they made a comeback during spring with a ballad song! (usually girl groups tend to promote in a more upbeat/cutesy songs for spring) Seulgi once mentioned that they were really worried about how people are going to react with their title track. Compared to their other title tracks up till now, OOTN went out of top 100 on Melon the fastest. The members confidence especially Joy's plummeted during this comeback. They went on a longest 'hiatus' period post OOTN pre Russian Roulette where they only made public appearance during some universities festivals and really really minimal TV appearance. Post OOTN was really a bittersweet memories for Reveluv 🙏
I think not only ppl who actually related to the sewol ferry get touched by this song but everyone who's ever lost their love one can relate. Including me. Everytime I hear this song, I remember someone that I lost and wish to meet them once again, even only in my dream will be ok too. I always cry everytime I listen to this song. I even cry when I watch this reaction. Thank you for not talking and stoping so much for this particular song reaction so I can enjoy the song. Thanks again.
This is actually one of my favourite RV title tracks ever. It was on constant replay for me. We were allowed to play our own music at work and this entire album was on repeat for me. i became the person at work who always played Red Velvet lol. There was just something so calming and melancholic about it and it was so soothing and beautiful to me.
this song and video is in honor to the victims of the ferry tragedy on april 16 2014, it’s one of their most touching songs 🥺💗 it hits you more when you know about the background story
Listening to this song always makes me cry. It’s so beautiful and sad at the same time. Even if you don’t know the translation of the lyrics or the meaning of the mv/song, you can feel the emotions through their voices
If u know the story behind it u can really catch up with it. Sewol tragedy is very sensitive for Korean. There's many students trapped there, and it's hurt many families. It goes like they ain't deserved it, they deserves future. And the theory of tragedy is keep much pain. So Korean really appreciate it, bcs this song just like representated their feeling. And sometimes it's gone trend when the date is pointed to the day of tragedy.
actually there is no official confirmation wether this mv is about sewol incident its just a theory. so technically this song is not dedicated to the incident even red velvet didnt even confirmed this theory in their interviews
he symbolism in this MV is crazy
- Wendy in the corridor with Seulgi looking through the keyhole representing the lives that were trapped in the ferry
- Seulgi walking out of the corridor and being parralel with the water because the ferry tipped before sinking
- the ladder joy is on with the water below her
- the tea because students said they were eating soup and noticed the soup was tilted
- the unknowing of which way is up vs down
- the way the girls are sitting around a table with one another because the survivors said the last thing they did before the panic was eating lunch with their friends
- the lights turning off as seulgi walks back into the corridor
and the most poignant symbolism is regarding yeri
1. the cover of the velvet album has yeri's face blurred because she was the same age as the students in the sewol ferry disaster
2. yeri being in a boat lying down
3. the boat being filled with water as yeri seems to be asleep
most of the people on the ferry were school aged kids the same age as yeri and i think the use of yeri to display the disaster makes it even more emotional
repost of a comment in the actual video which I think is very interesting
every little detail makes this MV and this song more and more special to me, each meaning
Can it be true that mv symbolism is to tragedy of sewol ferry and lyrics to korean folktale of two star crossed lovers(i forget names)?
@@vaanshichauhan9868 Yep! You're correct ... Both symbolize different things
oh my this is very... i dunno what to feel. i feel heartbroken at some parts
"A girl group's comeback with the ballad song and won in music shows"
Only Red Velvet can do this
I still remember Seulgi tearing up backstage after they won their first music show for OOTN. Poor girl, she feared the response may not be good bcoz they came back with energetic comebacks n previous ones.

People say Joy has a "Disney princess" type of voice and I've never heard something more accurate
I remember the video where she's singing part of your world 💚💚💚
I think so too, and Seulgi!! Her "remember me" and other disney songs is soo perfeeeect

Their live performances of “One of These Nights” are also sooo angelic and they put so much emotion not only in their voices but in their facial expressions as well.

Joy's voice has this sad whine/yearning sound to it. I find she expresses sadness in vocals better than most.
You should watch their live performance of this. It's very emotional and raw.

There's a theory that Zico's "Being left" is also dedicated to Sewol tragedy. He already made some songs 4:16 long and attended funeral of the fan.
