The Jaguar XJ220 is one of my favourite cars from the 90s along with the McLaren F1 and Ferrari F50. Like the McLaren and Ferrari I first knew of this car from the Need For Speed 2 game that was released around 1997.
The story of the XJ220 where it was shown as a prototype in the 1988 Birmingham Motor Show with a V12 and 4WD - leading to many people putting deposits down only to back out when the production version had a V6 and RWD - is a sad part of this car's history. Even with the V6 it is still an amazing vehicle and for about a year was the fastest production car in the world until the McLaren F1 claimed that title.
28 years have passed since this car first entered production and time has actually been kind to the XJ220. It is still an amazing vehicle to look at and will go down in history as one of the greatest cars ever made.

Can't imagine anyone not liking the looks of the XJ220, in my opinion the best looking car ever. Genuinely don't watch all the videos that pop up on in partly because its all been said before but also dealing with the fact I will never get to open my garage door and see one.
    Truly a masterpiece!!

  • @storck08

I have seen two of these. One in Sydney and one in Melbourne. Both were for sale. Wonderful and unique cars. It was also the fastest production car for 9 years on the Nurburgring, until 2001! Something unimaginable now when record is broken at least once a year...

What an astonishing video, it just tick all the boxes in one go brilliant content. Like I said before this car was really ahead of his time, and John just give the correct information that a lot of people don't know. This was one of the best but unfortunately people didn't look at it like it really deserves. Like the CX-75 that never went to production, when Jaguar does a supercar they do it properly.

Loved the one I owned between 2009 & 2019. Sadly after the first few years of taking it to Germany to stretch its legs it became just too much to use in the UK. Careless public driving too close to get pictures nearly left me in the Armco on the M1. Still miss it when I open my garage!

I've seen two of these in the flesh. It's a big car that looks even bigger. The wheels are perhaps the worst part of it. That being said it's one of my favorite supercars of all time. I would love to see one with a decent set of racey wheels. It would totally transform the look.

I recall walking into a then small Jaguar showroon in Mile End London in the early/mid 90's and seeing a used XJ220. Can't remember if it was either LHD or RHD. I do remember the price being in the £60,000 price range which was attractive. They've clearly gone up in value since. Credits to then Jaguar's South African car designer Keith Halfet.

A long overhang is necessary to stabilize even at the highest speed range exceeding 340 km. If I wanted to, I wanted a 6-speed transmission and power of about 700 horsepower.

200+ mph from a large car with V6.. back in the day was impressive. The XJ220 certainly still looks the part. When someone does what certain people do to older cars nowadays, and applies it to one of these... I’d buy that for a dollar/£850K/£2-3million.... I dunno.. nah, yeah..

The only problem is the absurdity that both don law and jaguar classics charge for the most mundane parts and overall. Literally taking advantage of owners idiocy. These have not take off because of the bloody greed.

I think he views this car through some rather rosy colored glasses. If ANY OTHER VEHICLE experienced such dramatic panel separations at high speed it’d be banned from most tracks and laughed off the others. Also, it’s ludicrous to suggest that the weight of a V12 engine places the performance goals of the designers out of reach. Uh, answer, FERRARI!! This car was an example of rampant hubris having been grounded by unassailable reality

when they decided for small v6 engine than they must take outside small design
