Through mathematical reasoning, science (theoretical physics) HAS discovered an indivisible, nondual reality from which everything we experience in the universe comes! This is the Unified Field Theory and one of its leading proponents (John Hagelin) has a number of lectures on RUclips where he draws remarkable comparisons between this modern theory and advaita vedanta. Amazingly, I first heard about both in the very same week! Hearing two very different yet very similar explanations for the universe - and being a scientist myself - helped me understand the truth that underlies advaita vedanta and gave me a spiritual path to follow that had eluded me for many years.
It was also because of the discovery of bhakti chanting that I was driven by curiosity to understand its purpose - and that is what led me to advaita vedanta.

@@harichakrapani1887 Well other forms of Vedanta are also quite fascinating if you study them from the perspective of their understanding of vedas.I think generally Shankaracharyas are the highest authority on traditional understanding of Advaita Vedanta and Ramakrishna paramhansa was actually a practitioner of kali kaula tantra. The kaula tantra siddhanta is advaitic but with a shakta focus and then again current shankaracharya of puri is himself a practitioner of sri vidya tantra.Advaita Vedanta is misappropriated and misrepresented in west without it's proper understanding so i do agree on your stand on being faithful to traditional acharyas

Thank you, Swami. You have been so helpful to me on my journey: when I had my spiritual awakening (I realized my Oneness with God, rather than separateness) your channel was one of the first ones I found, and I know I was guided to exactly the perfect place. Your explanations are clear, precise, and relatable, and your topics are always deeply meaningful. Multiple of your videos I have come back to again and again, and received deeper and deeper understanding. This topic in particular is one I’ve been sort of wrestling with lately: to specify, I have been struggling with the desire to “escape” life/the world/suffering, a kind of romanticism of for example monastic life. But I have a partner I love dearly, and truly, I don’t think God created the universe just for us to run away from it! So I am seeking instead to become “better” at living in “real life” through my spiritual practice. And the key, the most important thing, has definitely been love. Devotion, Bhakti, etc. seeing the absolute beauty, glory, perfection, wholeness in everything, is so much more powerful, in my personal experience, than trying to deny or shun the world. And I am finding I actually feel less overwhelmed by life as well. Anyway. Thank you again so much for your teaching, namaste.

your response resonates with my own inner questions regarding the place of bhakti. I have not heard a more lucid answer to the question "when all this is the manifestation of the One Conscious principle, who is doing bhakti to whom and who is going to respond to bhakti?". When you view bhakti from the standpoint of the three levels of reality, and realise that Ishvara is the empirical form of brahman, just as you and I are, it all falls into place. Also, I was delighted to know so lucidly that this jagat is relatively real, not unreal, not an illusion like the dream jagat. His explanation suddenly seems to have made our lives meaningful and, to have shown bhakti as a very meaningful, beautiful sadhana, doesn't it !!

I’m an Eastern Orthodox Christian, and I love learning about Hinduism so much!
I just wanted to add something. I do not want to completely mesh the two religions, or deny Hinduism, just add perspective.
In other videos (specifically the one about “idols”), the Swami said that he believes that the Christian God is the same as Ishvara. From the Orthodox Christian perspective however, we believe God (the Trinity) to be closer to Brahman. The Trinity is not a part of existence, but the ultimate source of existence itself. Definitely a different understanding altogether of Brahman, but that’s our understanding.
Great video, wonderful explanation of the Hindu concepts that really helped me understand better!

We in the west or modern science define "reality" differently than in the Vedas. In the Vedas "reality" is ALWAYS EXISTING, NEVER CHANGING. Something which is changing and only temporally existing (like this world), is in the terms of the Vedas and from their understanding "not real" (=not always existing) and therefore an "illusion" - even if it`s "real" in the sense of "temporally existing" from the perspective of the duality. Pranam Swami Tadatmananda. Thanks for your explanation of such an elusive concept of Advaita principle or Non-Duality . You made it so easy to understand with reference to the co-existence of duality and non-duality by using two concepts to empirical reality or name and the form. Thanks a lot again.

The movie, 'The Matrix' is a superb though rudimentary representation of Advaita. At the end of the movie, Neo sees everything as the Matrix - the same energy manifesting itself as the agents, as the buildings, as people etc and at that point, he is released from the limitations of the Matrix, much like how a yogi acquires siddhis when he realizes the oneness of reality.

Krishna says in the Bhagavid-gita: " By me in my unmanifested form ( Brahmanjoti ) this entire universe is pervaded" he also says,, " And I am the basis of the impersonal Brahman, which is immortal, imperishable and eternal and is the constitutional position of ultimate happiness." the absolute truth is om purnam ( the complete whole ) if it were just something impersonal it would be incomplete and if it were only personal it would also be incomplete so to be absolutely perfect the absolute truth must be transcendence that has a transcendental form as well as a transcendental effulgence ( Brahman )
To know of the absolute nature of Brahman would require a personality that is of Brahman and not the material world so Vishnu transcends the material world and is not " of " it.

All Glories to your commentary i completely agree Prabhuji, Lord Vishnu is the source of the Brahmajoti. If you want Loving Relationship to the Supreme Peronality God, and serve him mayavad doctrine is a delibarate obstacle for those who want Liberation only and not serve Sri Vishnu tatva. Even Lord Adi Shankaras Eternal Abode is beyond the Brahmajoti. Mayavad doctrine is created to facilitate the materialy bound souls with a cheating mood towards God. Mukti is never Bhakti. But when you are blessed with Bhakti,Mukti is there but Bhakti Yogis never ask. When Trancedental Love of God KrsnaPrema is there liberation from Mahamaya is just a automatic by effect. Vishnu gives you everything when you love him and ask for nothing.

@@petermolly6443 It is said that in sankaras Gita-bhasya Sankara himself said that Vishnu, Krishna were transcendental to the material cosmos ( narayanah paro 'vyaktat ) mayavada have confused spiritual variegatedness with duality but there is nothing in nonduality that says that there can't be spiritual variegatedness on the absolute platform. Nonduality just means that Brahman can't be of two natures like material nature is of two natures having both gross and subtle forms.

Lol krsna is not even mentioned in Vedas. No one can be the Source of brahman. If Krsna is a personality of Brahman then you are also one. Believe in you and look within. Anything that contradicts the Vedas is False and corrupted teaching

@@adithyanaren519 It is said in the Sri Isopanishad mantra 16: " O my lord, O primeval philosopher, maintainer of the universe,, O regulating principle, destination of the pure devotees, well -wisher of the progenitors of mankind, please remove the effulgence ( Bramanjoti ) of your transcendental rays so that I see your form of bliss. You are the supreme personality of Godhead, like unto the sun, as am I."

Very well explained swamiji. As i understand, the answer to the question "is devotion compatible with non-duality?" is yes and no. Yes at the empirical reality level and no at the absolute reality level. In other words, for a jnani who has understood the true nature of reality devotion may not make sense but for a seeker it would. Devotion, as an emotion, as well as Ishwara, as a form of Brahman, are mithya. One who realizes this transcends devotion as well as Ishwara. A jnani may still be devotional towards Ishwara but with the complete understanding that it is transient and not eternal truth. A seeker, on the other hands, is still under the illusion that the devotion / love for Ishwara is real.
