Reminds me of Sunsurge vs MP Streaker. Two different aesthetics really. If you want the too toon accurate look of the current MP line, go Hunk. If you want that old MP aesthetic where it was trying to blend toy vs toon vs real life, go Brawny. I personally prefer the old MP aesthetic. Brawny stays, right next to old MP Bee on my MP shelf.

Brawny is definitely from the time when the MP TF aesthetic was the balance between toy and cartoon. I’m not crazy about the headsculpt, but the colors certainly are from the G1 toy. Good truck mode too. I think the colors of Hunk need to be improved to match the cartoon, or go the other way to match the original toy. As they are they neither. It’s like Hunk had the correct colors, but then someone left him in a window display for too long and the colors faded. The back of Hunk is better, as it matches both the G1 toy and the cartoon.
I still like my Bad Cube Brawny.
I have both. I’m keeping my BC in alt. mode and FT in robot mode.
me too, i love my Brawny and i like to have some variety of body shapes in my collection, Hunk just looks very samey with other all the other "heroic" proportioned characters, while Brawny fits in with chunky FT Seaspray, XTB Cosmos and Hoist, Maketoys Grapple much better

Thanks Bobby. I always loved Brawn from the G1 cartoons (too bad he got blown away in the Movie). I just like the sculpt and look of the FT version better.
I personally give Hunk a 7/10. I scratched the paint on the left side,right under where the gold colored piece rotates. Not sure if it was from that exactly,or from having slight trouble getting the top half collapsed. I just transformed my BadCube Sunsurge for the first time,and man it's for sure BadCube and Fanstoys arent known for fun transformations. But I still have my Magnum to flip back and forth. Heard it was nice. Good vs vid,Skullface.

I agree with the results especially because I was expecting so much more from FT, but it does look good and if it was released a few years ago then it would be great. He fits in great with Blurr, Kup, and Hotrod era and not so much of the Stunticons and Aerialbots era which he should since he’s a pre-movie bot.

I'm just curious to get your thoughts on this Bobby to relate seige to star wars, would you say having the war without the backstory is similar to star wars starting out with 4-6 and dropping hints with Vader and the empire?
What you said at the beginning about not wanting to pay a low price for garbage is exactly why I hate on Final Victory.

Good video sir, and I pretty much agree. It’s better but not light years better, which actually turns into a disappointed feeling I don’t have with BC Brawny. I think I’m done replacing characters so far it’s been sidegrades at best. I actually think Brawny has more character, perhaps because of the distorted proportions, but just has more personality and of course more poseability. Keeping both though.

I'd like to get Hunk... but I can't find anywhere not already pre-order sold out.
I don't recall this being stated in the video, but are you replacing BadCube with FT, knowing that you can get more resale for the FT version? If you didn't get the FT version and saw a video like this, would you be looking to replace your BadCube? While ultimately it's a personal choice whether or not a person swaps a figure within their collection, I think some people want to hear your opinion on your personal decision.
with the accessories, i know my BC Brawny came with a huge canon, because there was one or two episodes where he was shown using a big looking thing (i think it was the nightbird ninja robot episode), but it also looks a bit like Megatron's fusion canon so it makes a good accessory for Brawny
Mine came with the big cannon as well. Was wondering why he didn’t mention it.
@@valentino1215 because that gun was part of an old upgrade set for Brawny. Dont remember what else included, but it got my attention for having the fusion cannon. But i decided against getting it, would have the gun anyway as soon as i was gonna get myself a suitable Megatron
@@zilvertron its actually NOT the fusion canon, watch the G1 Nightbird episode, Brawn has his own hand canon, its smaller than Megatrons Fusion Canon and he holds it like a pistol
Somewhere around this point I completely stopped giving enough care to replace the 3P guys I already have. FT fucking up the paint job on this one really killed it for me. I will stick with Hunk.
Not a huge fan of the character--but the comparisons are always interesting.
For some odd reason I have always enjoyed the Autobot minibots like Cosmos for example.
Even though I can't say I agree with your decision in every category I agree with the end result. As I already said increasing both the sales and the price while decreasing the quality is not a smart move, even if the quality was the exact same it would still pass the idea that this company lost the love that enabled them to release the best 3rd party TF figures and is only thinking about profit. Brawny was a great figure for its time, and has been my MP Brawn for years, but when FT and (to a lesser extent) Final Victory released their renders, his days were numbered, as those two just nail the 'bot mode so much better (from a purely aesthetic stance). The only tough part about the decision was that (as you said) Brawny's alt. mode is so much better, and I do prefer realism over 'toon or toy for my alt. modes... but at the end of the day, Hunk has edged Brawny out. It was a tough decision though.
Ironically the best compromise is probably Final Victory, as it sits right in the middle in both modes. 'bot mode, FT>FV>BC and alt. mode, BC>FV>FT.

I think the Bad Cube's green is too dark, but FanToys overall colors seem off too.
Looking at them side-by-side, I would like a FT brawn with the bad cube color scheme. I do like the extra little bits of sculpt here and there on the bad cube but the FT is my choice. I've had less QC issues there.
If you havent bought him yet, i say wait. They are gonna release a toon version soon and you get a better paint job that way

Objectively scoring them I can see the closeness, however BC brawn is one of only 2 figures I've just binned. I hated it, it was badly made trash and looked awful. I had a titans return legends brawn as a stand in for years. I wish FTs was better tho.
The best way I can sum up these two figures is like this
Badcube Brawny: *Function over Form*
Fanstoys Hunk: *Form over Function*
I wasn't going to get Brawn until I saw the FT version. If you're going for a G1 accurate shelf there really isn't another option.
Pretty sure it's the Nemesis that's approaching the Ark in the last Siege episode.
This is why I didn't buy Hunk. He's a bit better in some areas, a bit worse in others, but he's ultimately not much better than Brawny, and I passed on Brawny because I thought he wasn't quite up to par either (though his vehicle mode is gorgeous, and that might be my biggest issue with Hunk).
I like Brawn but neither option is doing it for me. I really hope someone else takes a crack at him (soon, preferably) and knocks it out of the park.
It's a shame that this figure is by far the worst product FansToys have released in a while. I'm highly critical of them but their track record recently has been quite good. Hunk, however, is not.
And I still hate how the feet look. Terribly messy design.

It would be nice if someone with some clout over at Bad Cube could raise that company back up from the dead and retool some of the weaker aspects of their past designs, introduce in a little bit of metal in the problem joints that require more strength and do a better job of finishing with paint and then relaunch some of their best designs. They have done good work but it doesn't hold up as well compared to a number of modern releases. It would be nice to have one more competitor in the space releasing G1 figures to raise the bar on quality overall and give fans more choices for the characters that matter to them.
The look is worth about 3-4 points for me, so it's more lopsided on my scorecard. Brawny definitely stood the test of time though.

Just shows how good BC Brawny is overall. Even though he lost the fight on this one, he put up one heck of a fight against a 2020 Fans Toys release. That's pretty respectable for Brawny. And I don't think Fans Toys is a bad figure. I don't think anyone feels he is either. I will say I can't get over Hunk's feet. He looks like he's wearing Ninja Turtle tube socks. It's just so odd looking to me whereas Brawny had feet that are more defined and in a way better looking. In the end, both have lots of good things to offer and you can't lose with either. Or be like me and get both.
I told my kid they all spoke like Ceasar from Planet of the Apes
It's a shame you couldn't (or didn't) source a Final Victory Brawn too.
I think the only way that Hunk wins 5 to 4 is if you ignore the importance of the figure's shelf presence. That's the problem with breaking these figures up to a dozen different categories. So Hunk gets 1 point for Presence. But, for most Collector's Presence is the end all be all factor for a figure. Looking at these 2 figures side by side; one looks like a high end Masterpiece, and the other... well the other doesn't belong in the same category. Bad Cube's All-Torso-Squat-Kibble-Legs was never a decent MP figure, he was just the only option for a long time. The truth is BC's version from the waist up is just OK, but from the waist down he's pretty terrible.
The mini-bots are my least favorite of the Season 1/2 characters and these figures aren't convincing me to complete the line up. I really wish someone would do a different take on making a Brawn figure that takes liberties on the look of the character but if not, I can deal with just not having this character in my collection.

Giving a point to badcube for price come on? Brawny was $80 five years ago fanstoys $87 today. That’s a wash
On Big Bad Toy Store it is going for 90 dollars and while it may be a wash to you that is about 12% higher and I certainly would want to save that money.
Karl V I got it for $87 at the chosen prime and if you include inflation and fact it’s a pandemic. Fanstoys is better and priced better

Some of those Brawny wins are really reaching... That's not an ab crunch; it sits way below his 'abs' and is more like a leg bend. Hunk can kick 90 to the front and side if you adjust the hip skirt. Hunk destroys Brawny in pretty much every category that matters, bar the double jointed elbow and the ability to look up a bit more, which comes at the sacrifice of accuracy (the toe articulation doesn't really add much). Not everything needs ratchets either, especially at this size. Brawny feels like a cheap plastic toy compared to most figures in my collection and it's completely off-model. Who cares about 'sculpted detail' if it's inaccurate? Equal in overall sculpt? Not a chance. Hunk's alt mode is way more accurate than Brawny's too. Hunk was also cheaper than Brawny for me.
I really cannot agree with this assessment. Hunk is a letdown in terms of the articulation limits (main'y because we've been spoiled lately), but in every other way that matters it's way ahead of Brawny.

Regret vs Regret
Not to contradict the opinions of the women in your life, but in your Masterpiece group shot Badcube's Brawn stood out better next to Bumblebee and Smokescreen. Maybe it was the svelte build it maybe the light colors, but Fanstoys Brawn kinda got lost among the more vibrantly colored Autobots in your lineup.
To be fair, why would a figure this small need ratchet joints?
If it has die-cast pieces, ratchet joints will help support the weight of the metal instead of making the joints sag (over time).
Ratchet joints have a feel of quality over the non ratchet joints I feel. FansToys is a company KNOWN for their premium hardware and use of ratchet joints. I don’t understand why now they decide to not use them.

Expertly said as always! A agree, Hunk isn't so much better, but it is better! Either way, whether you have Brawny, Hunk, or both, you really can't lose.
Love fanstoys but yes the articulation on there figures feels dated makes me wonder if these are old designs and they never bothered to update the articulation
In hand Badcube looks and feels like a toy while Fans Toys looks and feels more like a collector piece.

For me it's the proportions of a figure that ruin the articulation. You can't do a kneeling pose if your knees aren't in the middle of your legs. Alternity Prime's knees are way too high, his arms are too short and the shoulders are too far back so any pose other than standing dramatically looks ridiculous. He's got most of the articulation you want but he can't use it.
not a fan of hunk at all, if another brawn comes on the market i'll be taking a look
Well I'm glad Fanstoys did Brawn, his shelf presence goes a long way especially with the G1 accuracy and of course Branwy just looks dated in this regard. HUNK for me all day👍🏽
The deciding factor for me is which looks closer to the cartoon? Fanstoys blows badcube away. Fanstoys looks great in Alt Mode, and bot strictly compared to the cartoon.
