    6:30 AM, I'm watching you hammering in a bearing (in the nicest way), wife from kitchen: 'who's that banging at this time in the morning?'. ' Dean's building his wheel' 'oh, okay then' 👍🏼

      Good job I filmed it, I don't have that kind of energy at this hour any more!

    Nice work Dean, I have a set of those pin spanners that you have, think mine is made by Williams here in the states. They are handy for sure. Looks like it is coming together nicely. You are almost 400 subs. that is great. Your channel is growing fast. Thanks for the plug again, and keep the videos coming. Enjoy hanging out in the shop with you.

      Thanks Dale. Yes, I'm very grateful to everyone for subscribing. Who'd have thought people would watch me fooling around in the garage! The pin spanner is great, Ade certainly has some top tips.

    Great thread file, I must keep a look out for one at the autojumbles, currently using needle files!

    • @retromechanicalengineer
      @retromechanicalengineer  Год назад

      They are very handy. I've saved a few expensive bits with them. No good for internal threads of course, you'll still need your needle files to pick out the ends of those.

    Pity you didn't fit new wheel rims, you could have shown me how to true mine up! My rims were awful so after a years deliberation and much drying of teeth over the cost l rebuilt the wheels this winter, l have left spokes slack ready to true up, maybe next winter ha ha. Thanks for taking time to video you work. Alex norfolk

      Cheers Alex, I'm planning on wheelbuilding for my next project. The point of this one is to keep it looking it's age.
      Best of luck with your build. Check out AG Engineering and Dale Sweger for wheelbuilding top tips in the meantime.

    Coming along nicely, won't be long before you are polluting our air with your two stroke oil smoke.🤣
    If I get around to doing some more videos I shall have to do one on fitting tyres. I have never seen one that shows the correct method, this is not arrogance in thinking my way is the only way, it is the voice of experience from fitting approximately 10K tyres and mostly on the roadside. As a hint, remember bending spoons fitting tyres to your push bike as a kid, well if you know the correct procedure you just use fingers and thumbs only!

      Thanks Chris. This tyre was actually a fairly decent one to fit. I really lack the space and have to use the floor which doesn't make for good filming. Maybe I will show the front one when I do it, we'll see. I hope you do more videos, sharing the experience and knowledge is a good thing.
      Best wishes, Dean.

      @@retromechanicalengineer if you don't have a machine to do it for you, working on the floor is the best place to fit tyres as you can use your knee to great advantage.

    We are both currently treading the same path!!! Another great video and I'm enjoying seeing progress on the Bantam. I think I'm going down the path of machining the linings on the D7 Pastoral I'm doing as there is only 5mm of travel on the brake arm until the brakes drag, plus the brake rod doesn't have enough thread protrusion through the pivot pin for the adjusting nut to engage. I've got a customer bike in next week, plus I've just built another race engine, so I won't be back on the D7 for a week or so. Nice chatting the other day and keep the videos rolling in..........

      Great to chat Bones, sounds like you are really busy. I'm hoping to get away with bedding in the linings but I think there is quite a gap at the outer edges.
