Thanks for making this. I’ve watched other videos with guys replacing the seal and they take off way more parts. One guy even dropped the entire axle. I’ll definitely be doing it your way.
Excellent video. I thank you. Unfortunately, I made the poor choice of not replacing the seal when I put on a new half axle. My bad. Your video really helps. I can see that I don't need to remove the hub nut and axle, just the inner bolts. I greatly appreciate your taking the time to share this. Also, loved how you ended the video!
Wowza, you made that look way too easy! I need to replace one on my '99 GMC K2500 Suburban but Can't find a good video on a 3/4 ton. Thanks for sharing.
why doesnt he just rotate the axle instead of goofy angles with the socket? thank you Chevy for putting the seals on the outside!!! unlike my 03 grand cherokee(which I love) front axle ...where the seals are INSIDE the diff....got to take it ALL apart
Great vedeo and great explanation 👍 👏 I have a 95suburban and I need to make a same thing on right side!🤔 because the axle shaft shakes much probably is a damm gasket or a bearing 🤔 cheers from Norway 👋
Why did you put the inner axle shaft back in without the retaining clip on the shaft? Probably missing or snapped off in the diff....That's why you had an easy time removing it. Mine wore out and the inner axle shaft pulled out of the diff 2" which cause my 4x4 to not engage properly.
@@canadagoose15 hey my stub shaft is clicking and wobbles a bit when you tug on it there's a little fluid coming out near the seal is it stupoosed to be a little wobbly or could it be a bad retaining clip
@@AutoEclinic Help! I put my circular clip on the shaft, but I'm not able to get the shaft back in with the new circular clip on. So far have ruined 2 seals and 2 bearings trying to get the axle shaft back out. I saw a video of a rebuilder and he put the circular clip on the shaft and with one deadblow, the axle went in. I used a sledge, but no luck! I wonder if it would work better to have the clip on the inside and then insert the axle shaft like you did. Thoughts?
@@AutoEclinic 10-4, thanks. My CV axle sheared all the bolts where the CV connects to the axle shaft. Figured it would be a lot easier to get the broken bolts out if the axle shaft is removed so I can access it from the back side as well. Just don’t want to start pulling on it if there is some sort of inner connection in the differential and break something.
The clips you guys are talking about are for the passenger side, the longer shaft side. The driver side has a short shaft that pops out, the passenger side has a clip that has a tendency to deform and you may or may not have to take that part of the tube off the differential if it won't come out properly.
Do it like he does. Sometimes they easy and sometimes they take forever to make them pop. I’ve made up a tool for the slide hammer and I used everything in my repertoire of 25 years and it’s just luck of the draw.
Yeah I've never seen one come out that easy but they do say pry easily or rotate the shaft in an attempt to get the open portion either up or down and it comes out easier in these locations...lol sometimes!
I make it a point to only purchase GM original equipment seals for axle shafts, transmission, or transfer case seals. I have seen such mixed reviews for the aftermarket seals even though they are made by federal mogul, aka national.
Chrome socket, swivel and extension on an impact! I love it! I like to live dangerously too. 😂

I can’t believe you got that axle out that easy🤯

This is how maintainence vids should be done.thx
As soon as the leaks are fixed that's when they start rusting.😁 Nice fix man!
Thanks! There’s a lot of truth to that statement!
Thanks for posting this video , it helped out alot with my project .
Glad it helped

All I need to know without saying a word 😅
Thanks 🎉
If you take off the skid plate the cv axle will drop down below the inner axle flange. You don't have to remove anything.
What's the part number for the seal?

Wow this was so easy. Thanks for the video very informative
man that impact sounds so mean im getting chills hahaha
Appreciate the video! 10/10 ! Huge help for me
You’re welcome
no circlip on the axle? Has it given you any problems?
What is the part number to the seal installer or where did you get it?
For future readers use a small block of wood or socket the same size as the seal and tap gently with a hammer or rubber mallet until it's flush.
Shaft bolt for stabilizer doesn't have to be removed on my 01 silverado z71.
Do the 2011+ have a c-clip on the LH axle like they do on the RH axle?
No they don’t, only the right side does, the left side pretty much just pops right out after disconnecting cv axle
@@damyou5972 both sides had them.
@@damyou5972 on the 2011 i just took apart both sides had them 100% had to fully disassemble it to get it out

It was still in the groove inside. It locked back in once I put shaft back in.
@@AutoEclinic No. no it wasn't. I paused and zoomed in on it. and if it was....it needs to be replaced.

Thanks a lot. Was trying to ponder how the hell they were changed. Ford diesel guy….
How much would this normally cost? Great video.
About 200 dollars
Thanks man!
Do you know if it is the same removal method for the 2014 as far as the output shaft coming out?
Should be similar but you may have to end up removing the complete axle shaft. Service manual calls for removing it.

Could someone help me get the part numbers for that bearing and seal on a 2009 tahoe
Why didnt you put the retaining clip back on? Is it because you broke it taking it out?
which clip are u referring to, because Im ordering the seal now I wanted to know all the precautions so its a 100% successful job
I did not have one on my 2000 1500 silverado
Do only some models have the retaining clip? Hear some people say you need to take the whole thing apart and others not

Sorry, don’t remember now what size they were.
17mm
Getting ready to do this does the clip on the other end just fall down in the diff? If so is it okay
No, it's attached to the axle and stays with it.
Is this the same for the 08-13 Silverados?
I think it’s slightly different from what I call.
@@AutoEclinic it's essentially the same. Had to loosen the strut assembly to move the axle shaft out of the way but it all pretty much the same

THANK YOU!!!

I can’t get the axle stub out do I need it in 4 w drive or a c clip
Sounds like the clip is being stubborn and not allowing the stub shaft to slide out.

How do you get a socket in the bottom part of the stabilizer bar link?
The wheel was removed and and front end was elevated on a jack and stand.
Thanks a bunch!
What size seal installed did you use?
Not sure what the size was, it was the OEM replacement.
My stub axle slid out after I reinstalled everything not all the way can I. Take the 5 bollts out and push it back in
Yes. Just make sure it clicks into the differential
Where do you get the parts? Or how you call them. I have that same problem on mi escalade 02
Got them at GM dealership.
Any part number

why did u replace ? bad symptoms please
It leaks

did you ever confirm the part number?

That was a very stubborn circlip!

Yes, I changed the fluid out and used the Amzoil Severe Duty going back in.
