This brings tears to my eyes! I am proud to be a part of The Seeing Eye! God my first dog in 1972 and just a year ago got my new dog Inez (I Nezz. No one can imagine the freedom and dignity these dogs bring to a blind person. I actually met Morris Frank! What a Pioneer he was and continues to be. Words can not express the pride and joy I feel with my Seeing Eye dog guiding me in harness. Thank you Seeing Eye!
Morris Frank was perfect to receive the first Seeing Eye/guide dog to be used in the US. He was very outgoing and generally unafraid of new things. I am sure this was why he was chosen. Thanks to the Seeing Eye and the other guide dog schools which train the dogs and the people receiving the dogs. I worked at the school in Florida and visited the Seeing Eye many years ago.
I Read the book about buddy and i got sad because buddy died at 1938 and it was hard for morris to say good bye he thought they be together and forever
The movie was really good. It was sad to see buddy pass at the end after helping Mars Frank prove to Congress the need of service animals for those who are blind.
This comment is directed at those of you who gave thumbs down. Yes, I understand it’s very sappy. You cannot expect Hollywood or even guide dog schools to produce something that is not sappy. That is how you get donations. Yes, sometimes it is at our expense but the schools are learning and modern videos are a little bit more appropriate. We have to learn to forgive the old days and move on. The only way we can change how we, blind people, are presented in Hollywood is to get more blind people in the performing arts. We need to do what African-Americans did, get out there and be impossible to ignore. Even gay people play themselves on TV now. We can reach that level too.
Hello, We need more action from our Government on both sides of the house to ensure service dog teams have public access rights? Far too often we hear of people being refused taxis, motels, restaurants, movies and the list is endless. I myself have been kicked out of coffee shops, refused taxis, even escorted out of a mall in handcuffs. We must ask ourselves why is this happening and why are we treating people with disabilities like unwanted criminals? Has our society regressed to the point of openly and viciously make it so obvious that we are not welcomed in public? I ask all people if this is the society you know or want? Is this the society so many fought and died in battles for "all people's" freedoms and rights? This silent war on people that utilize serving dogs must stop. And must stop now, not tomorrow or next week, month or next March when the regulations expire, but now. One final note, please ask yourselves if you really know what it is like living your life in the end of a dog leash? I l do know that those living with a service dog, pray you never pay the price we did, to find out. The sad fact is we in the service dog community have faced this form of discrimination since Morris Frank entered USA with his guide dog, "Buddy" almost eighty years ago. When are we going to learn?
read this book years ago, morris met doggo in switzerland it took weeks for dog and bossman to get to know each other,After much practice, each knew the others slightest move slowdown speed up the walk pace, each others mood, learning absolute trust in each other,,morris and buddy could sail down sidewalks, buddy able to judge w/on a fraction of an inch how much clearance the master needed to pass under store awnings,,,halt and sitdown at corner traffic lights dog looks left,,right up at the green light change,,knowing not the color, but the order of lights on the steel post, morris recounted his stay at a summer house with a screened in porch where morris slept in the humid summer,,,,while morris was asleep soundly a burglar cut a hole in the screen around the door handle,( he supposed later what buddy did while the crook cut the screen mesh,,nothing, just sat and watched, the moment the guys hand came through, buddy sunk his sharp teeth into this goofs hand,,he ran away screaming,,what a dogOn another occasion, morrris and the dog were on the sidewalk of a busy street,e fellow walked up to morris talking loudly angrily poking his fingers into morris;'s chest,'my god buddy is going to kill this guy' thought morris,,what the dog did was rear up on hind paws get between morris and the angry stranger,,firmly but gently pushing him away from the boss,,Later on that day morris found out the man had escaped from a close by asylum,,buddy had sensed the man was not responsible for his behavior, ,incapacitated, just my memory of the parts of the book that stuck in my head all these years

Hello,
