    I purchased the X-Mid Pro 2 when they were first launched. I had to wait many months for it, but it was more that worth the wait! It's my perfect tent (other than its the version w/o interior pockets). My dad, who's been an avid backpacker for 45 years now saw it and was blown away by its design and weight. I ordered the X-Mid Pro 1 for him and can't wait to surprise him. Thanks Dan for the innovation, and doing all the work you've done in order to make it available to everyone!

    For me while in the Marines and now hiking, I HATED getting splash-back on my gear. In the past, my one person tent always was a grime fest after a rainstorm and I now gearing up for the PCT in 2024 (yep my dream after retirement) I think this tent will the one. I can sit my pack up and lean it against the trekking pole to get it away from the edge. Heck it looks like I could sit it up on edge inside even. We shall see.
    I got a bit more research but think this is the one.
    I can’t wait to hit the PCT. It comes close to my old stomping grounds around Big Bear. My wife and lived in Yucca Valley while I was based at 29 Palms. The PCT will be a blast and actually looking forward to the desert just to see the old landscape. Memories!

    What I like best is this. The floor. Because it's 15d I'll for sure carry a 1.5mil polycryo ground sheet, which on 75% of nights I'll just cowboy camp on (I live in the US mountain West.) But when that weather comes, I know I'll have an amazing tent to lean on. A tent that's NOT monopolizing pack space. I didn't expect to buy this tent, but I couldn't say no to it.
    Dan, you also need to talk up cross ventilation. It's a huge deal in US latitudes on quiet humid nights where you must go into a shelter to get away from mosquitos!

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  Год назад

      Good point on the cross ventilation. It's not often a big perk where I hike (Canada) but you raise a good point about it's value in humid areas. I'll mention that more.

When I rolled it up it fit into the stuff sack on the first try without having to jam it in. Well done Dan and thanks! By the way mine weighed in at 16.95 oz. (480.5g) including the sack.

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  Год назад

      Adjustable poles are best so you can fine tune the pitch. The actual height will vary depending on the pitch and uneven ground but it is usually about 45" for the X-Mid Pro 1. You could probably use your 48" poles if you angle them but it won't be ideal.

    Could you guys please release a video on the x-mid 2 solid? Even maybe do a extreme weather test with it and how well it handles summer heat? I'm torn between the regular and solid and can't decide. I do a lot of camping/canoeing here in Missouri and the weather can change very quickly. It also gets hot and humid sometimes so does the Solid still have a lot of ventilation?

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  Год назад

      A video would be nice but we don't have one currently. We do have our video on the X-Mid 2 and then the X-Mid 2 Solid is almost identical except for the inner, which you can see in the photos. The inner is warmer but still has mesh for the top half of the doors. It can be too hot in places like Arizona but should be fine year round in most areas. Some popular tents like the MSR Hubba Hubba only come in a solid version.

    Okay, I love this, and have been awaiting it since it was announced.
    I went with the Duplex over the 2p Xmid Pro mainly due to the dyneema floor, despite Dan personally explaining to me why his material choice he felt was superior. The 1p version offers something competitors don’t though, two vestibule, less tent pegs for a pitch, poles offset from the entrance, and two doors with cross ventilation. For anyone that doesn’t know, these are HUGE features.
    Hopefully supply chain bottlenecks have improved. Dans commitment to the community, and zeal with which he explains and promotes his products is something more companies should emulate.

      You should check Darwin’s review on his duplex after 1000 miles, the floor was like new. So those ppl saying DCF floor isnt good I wonder how many miles they actually hiked 😂
      Nylon on the floor seems to be much more of a way to decrease cost than any other thing… but guess what? nobody cares 😅

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  Год назад

      @@petercornetet8267 DCF floors can hold up alright but they aren't more durable than a similar weight woven floor. They don't save weight, don't add durability, and the main problem is that the 1.0oz DCF used for the Duplex floor is 2.5x as thick as regular DCF, so it makes the tent quite bulky. The X-Mid Pro packs up way smaller than a comparable Zpacks tent for this reason.

Was able to just setup the fly real quick and get emergency shelter for three. I understand it's lighter to just have the inner and outer combined and delete the two mesh sidewalls but I would love to see an option like the original. Definitely stormworthy, but I would get better stakes to go with it since it puts a lot of tension on the 4 corner stakes.

    I've seen lost hiking poles when hiking in complex rock where one slid down and I was walking from a lower path due to not reading the path correctly if you only had one pole could you survive ? It's a small concern I have about hiking pole tents where something that could get lost during the hike being needed.

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Paul,
      Thanks for your interest. There are a variety of options in a case where you have lost a trekking pole:
      1) If you broke the pole, if it is a flick lock design often you can reinsert the remaining tip to continue to use the pole and often it is still long enough.
      2) You can use a stick instead. Break it to the right length or a bit longer and angle it. Put something protective on the top like a sock or mitt to avoid damaging the tent.
      3) You can tie the peak up to a tree and not use a pole at one peak
      4) You can borrow a pole from another hiker
      So losing a pole is rare, but if it happens you can usually figure out alternative. If you could not figure out anything, then you could have no pole at the foot end of the tent. The tent will still stand but the fly would be touching your sleeping bag at the foot end so you could put your rain jacket over your sleeping bag to protect it if the conditions are wet.
      Cheers,
      Dan

    Nice tent. Two vestibules is extremely nice in bad conditions but I am wondering if extending the tent floor on one side to create more indoor space would have been worth it. It would complicate things when setting up a bit more and if the fly was open it would directly rain into the bath tub...but there's already a massive vestibule on the other side for cooking / getting out of wet clothes. Minimal weight gain of course as well.

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  Год назад +1

      I did look at this. The trouble is that if I extend the floor to fill one vestibule then the pole would be on top which people would worry about and find strange - unless I fenced it off in one corner then the floor is a very odd shape.

    Is there any way to measure/state the "actual" footprint, including guy lines? Or even just full space this tent requires vs. some others? Because I have one of the big name silpoly trekking poles tents, and it just requires too much space, especially for the main/peak guy line that holds the whole thing up. I'd like to try the X-Mid Pro 1, but not if I end up with the same problem of having to always find a camping spot with flat ground that's large enough for a trekking pole tent.

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  Год назад +1

      With the X-Mid Pro 1 is was a goal to get the footprint smaller, so it is our smallest footprint tent. It's still a spacious tent so it's not a tiny footprint but it manages to be big on the inside and relatively small on the outside due to the steeper walls.
      The actual footprint is 63" x 98". Unlike many trekking pole tents, the fly comes right down to the ground (for better protection against drafts and splatter) which can make the footprint a bit larger except that you don't need the long cords like other tents. You can have the cords really short at about 1-2" if you want because the fly does come to the ground. You can basically pin the corners right to the ground for a footprint that is not larger than the fly.

My question is, what is the shelf life of seam tape and if it eventually fails on my xmid, would you recommend retaping it, or just removing the old tape and sealing with a brush and silicone sealer? Thanks to anyone who answers!

    It seems to be a great tent and I'm considering buying one, but as a kayaker I would prefere a freestanding tent. It would be great if you could make a freestanding tent. Most freestanding tents on the market you have to put up first the inner-tent and then put the outer-tent tent over it. If it is raining, the whole inner-tent is wet. Or they are really heavy. The DCF fabric used here is extremely light but very expensive (about 10x the cost of a normal fabric). So this tent is priced low for what it is (e.g. comparable DCF tents from a mainstream brand like Big Agnes were about 2x the price) but it is still expensive. If you want something more affordable, our regular X-Mid 1 is less than half the price.

    • @durstongear
      @durstongear  Год назад +1

      It's complicated but the X-Mid Pro does better than most DCF tents because it doesn't have a flattish roof panel that takes direct blows. Huge hail can still damage it but regular hail is fine. A woven tent can be better in hail, but the DCF is much stronger and better in severe winds, so both have their strengths and weaknesses but overall reports of DCF tents getting damaged are very rare.
