Thanks so much for this informative video. I have searched lots of videos online and none comes close to the way you explain. The closest you find are Hindi videos with no subtitles. I even planned on learning the Hindi language just so I can better understand the concepts they were sharing, And from nowhere you APPEARED and how glad I am that I found your channel. I'll be looking forward to more informative videos from you. Thank You.
Excellent presentation, the most clear I have ever seen, for that I am most grateful thankyou, I remember in the day when the SuperIO was on a card and controlled just the serial, parallel, floppy and IDE ports on desktops lol, back then component level repairs were uneconomical as it was cheaper to replace the card or board, now its gone full circle and its cheaper to replace the component. thanks again and look forward to seeing more from you.
Would love to see a video on chip identification, pin identification and trouble shooting for these. Seems like the SIO is often involved in "laptop no power" situations, right behind bad FETs.
informative video no body explain the concept like you new subscribe thanks for you again and again we need more and more like this video especially in real diagnostic problem ( no power, no data, on off on off , short)
Excellent explanation, you are well educated, I would be grateful if you continue and do a starting sequence of a desktop and laptop mainboard, what are the activation signals of the different steps, how are they related, with the EC, microprocessor, what voltage value they have the qualifications, congratulations on your level of knowledge and share on the web, thank you
for more information , no rsmrst no power so if the laptop power on then definitely we have rsmrst signal so you don't need to check the signal , honestly very very informative video , thank you
This video is incredible ♥. You've explained everything so well. Could you consider demonstrating this with a practical session using a working laptop? It would be really helpful for beginners like me.😀
Could you explain how and when SIO detects that all power suppplies are compete after power button and where that fits in your sequence of events and signals? Apologies if I've missed it after watching several times. I ask because my motherboard seems to be only 0v or mV at several power supply inductors, including CPU supplies
Great, informative tutorial, thank you sir! I have a question, when one of the pins (PRBT.OUT) should be 3V, and it is only 0.8V and there is voltage drop across the resistor it is connected to, what does this indicate? Thank you.
Thank you for your videos Im learning from your channel, and you have so much knowledge but audio its a bit low, hope you can improve on that, dont take it the wrong way please!!
Hi! I'm PitStopComputers, I sell programmed KBC chip's for some time, you have a big like and a new subscriber. You explained very clear how to troubleshoot the power on problem. Big like, I will recommend your video to my customers.
You are the Romanian guy on eBay, just about to buy one of your programmed chips there. I heard about you on Sorins videos. When you see order for it8987 then that will be me!!
Hello sir , many thanks for your explanation. My question is after you get the VCC 3v, Ec rst, crystal oscillating 32.678 khz clock correct, the next is bios pin 1 which is chip select. I know of rsmrst confirming that PCH VCC is generated. Pls explain how the rsmrst is connected to the bin file of the bios rom?
That isn't the Main bios I was talking about Its the EC bios Maybe I did not know to explain it well My English is really bad The main bios is not connected to SIO at all, its connected to the PCH straight away So if the EC or KBC bios bin file get corrupted then RSMRST will not be generated and you have to Reflash the EC bios Note: Nowadays the EC bios is not a separate chip but embedded within the EC chip itself so you have to refalsh the EC chip when its bios bin file gets corrupted
Thanks very much for this video, though I still have much learning to do. I have one elitebook 6930p, all voltages are present but won't come up, but when I hear the sio, it will come up and I'll be able to use it even when I turn it off I can b able to turn it back on again. The problem is, when I leave it for about 30mins while it's off, I won't be able to turn it on until I heat the sio again
The EC generates a single called EC_ON which work as Enable signal for both 3 and 5 volts always This happens before sending anything to the PCH If you watch this vedio it might give you more information ruclips.net/video/tm6A63zrPyw/видео.html

Hello, thank you very much for the video! I have a question, I would like to know if KBC, EC and SUPER IO are the same component? I mean they refer to the same chipset? Or are all three different? Greetings from Perú 😃😃😃
Hello friend Yes brother it refers to the same chip They call it Super IO which means Super Input Output And they call it EC which means Embedded Controller And KBC which means Keyboard Controller, and this name came from one of the functions this chip do
@@FixTronics And in general, what should be called the chip that makes the KBC, SUPER IO and EC function? Thank you very much for answering my friend. Continue like this with your videos, which I am seeing thanks to the translation :D
@@FixTronics And another of my doubts is that, when they say "reprogram the EC" or "reprogram the KBC", how is it that they reprogram it if both are on the same chip? Or is it possible to reprogram only one sector of the hip where the EC is, and if I want to reprogram the KBC, can I find it in another sector where I can only reprogram the KBC? Or is it that when the KBC is reprogrammed, the EC and the SIO are reprogrammed at the same time?
Hi brother I wanted to help you But I first need your motherboard schematics, which I couldn't find anywhere You can communicate with the seller of your board and ask him to help you I am sorry brother
Hello brother Yes it is my dear Did I say something other than that Maybe by mistake I'll go check and correct it Thank you so much I really appreciate it
With all due respect friend your sequence is wrong. If you check the sequence with osciloscope you will see that the first thing the EC does after receive power, clock and reset is fetch data stored in the EC ROM (Wrongly called BIOS) to configure its GPIO's. (ACIN, LIDSW, RSMRST, etc). I hope this will be helpful to you. Thanks.
