    This sounds like if Japanese had a massive Spanish and Italian influence. This is honestly great lol.
    Edit: this is my OPINION on what it sounds like to me. I know of course the vocabulary isn’t gonna be consistent between the languages. I’m saying the way it’s spoken sounds familiar to someone who doesn’t speak these languages. I never claimed to speak these languages. I’m fluent in English and have a B1 background in Russian so please don’t come for me thanks :)

    As a tokiponist aka semifluent toki pona speaker, the funniest part is that even the toki pona said is with a fairly thick accent. Also, this is kind of amazing and I love it so much

    Imagine raising a child and only teaching them toki pona and naming them the hardest word to pronounce in the language.

      @@RegularRhombicDodecahedron That's the fun thing about Toki Pona - there's like 40 different translations of any given sentence
      If you were going to translate "my name is raccoon" into Toki Pona though, that is how you would say it so that's probably what he meant
      So technically you did translate it into English words and it was a correct translation but it probably wasn't the right interpretation

      ⁠@@hadhamalnamThe accent comes from the limitations of the phonology, the added vowels (a thing Japanese also does with English loans) are because English’s syllable structure is much more complex than Toki Pona’s, and all sounds in general are mapped only to the ones Toki Pona has. The “Toki Pona accent” is effectively showing the difficulties a hypothetical native speaker of Toki Pona would have speaking English.

      According to the Wiki on it Most Toki Pona roots come from English, Tok Pisin, Finnish, Georgian, Dutch, Acadian French, Esperanto, Serbo-Croatian with a few from Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese).

Languages sounding similar is more often a coincidence than due to some shared past, because how a language sounds changes very drastically once they separate

      ​@@the_unforseen8224 English is actually one of the simplest European languages. It's just the spelling and phonology that's hard. It has super simple grammar, the vocabulary is taken from two major language families, it has a lot of material written in it so it's easy to get exposure in the language.

      @@aaronspeedy7780 Some of the grammar is simple, but take for example the adjective order sytstem, you're allowed to say "the big grey dusty cupboard", but not "the dusty grey big cupboard" Maybe it is one of the most simple european languages, I wouldn't know, but it's certainly not simple

      @@aztralsea It's one of the most simple European languages, and pretty dang simple just in general. But it's definitely not the simplest.
      In short, language is really freaking complicated. Every language has its quirks, such as not being allowed to say "the dusty gray big cupboard", or being allowed to say both "I will go to the store" and "To the store I will go" when most European languages strictly only allow "To the store I will go" or "To the store will I go"
      One of the ones I struggle with is in German there's 5 different words for "The" based on both gender and case.
      "Der Hund" is "The dog", but if the dog is the direct object it's
      "Den Hund", "The dog", but if the dog is plural it's
      "Die Hunde", "The dogs".
      "Der Hund frisst", "Den Hund füttern", and "Füttere die Hunde" mean "The dog eats", "Feed the dog", and "Feed the dogs"

    "Quick brown fox" is what we use to get aquatinted with a keyboard, "She sells seashells" is a "Tongue twister" meant to be hard to say repeatedly.

      one of its roots is Tok Pisin which is a creole spoken in Papua New Guinea in Oceania. it's not in Polynesia specifically but that may be why you think so?

      Tok Pisin is one of Toki Pona's roots so that may be why? since Tok Pisin has a lot from various Austronesian languages and Tagalog and bahasa indonesia are Austronesian as well

      Same. I'm also writing a character who speaks toki pona. In the universe of the story, toki pona is the language most commonly spoken in the afterlife. The main character is a demon that struggles with English.

      @@francissanto12 well there are certain conlangs that are popular enough that parents raised their children speaking it only to them. There are several native speakers of esperanto who grew up speaking it at home with their parents and speak esperanto as their first language. I don't think anyone's done it with toki pona but i wouldn't be surprised if it did.

      @@dani.munoz.a23 There’s no way anyone’s done that with toki pona because it isnt a very useful or practical language, due to the fact that it only has about 120 total words. So explaining complex ideas and concepts is basically impossible.
