Originally supposed to be a birthday present for my wife because she can't brew decks, either, but yeah. Not just basic tutorials like you see on RUclips, but rather, I've taken my Brawl deck from Arena (has a VERY good W/L ratio and due to how the format has card pool restrictions to make an analysis easier in scope), break it down card by card, explain what each and every single card does, why each one was chosen over something similar, then give mock-up scenarios for the deck to be in to give an idea of why effects work like what, and why you should choose them. I've found people who want to build decks learn better if they've got one in their hands that they fully understand what it does, why each and every single card was chosen, and given tough scenarios to problem solve. IMHO they could have printed Earl of Squirrel in MH2. For an un-card the card isn't that crazy. Just write out the Squirrellink keyword and the card would be a normal card.
@@whaleofdarkness even squirrellink isn't that crazy the new golgary elf commander has elflink. You could reprint it in blackborder without any problems. It’d probably be easier and cheaper to just get like a good proxy made they are just a few cents. Throw a pig in the art or a custom icon or however you want to do it.
Another card worth considering, which might actually be better than pretty much any other token producer, is Pitiless Plunderer. If you have at least two squirrels and one black mana up, you can sac the two squirrels, get two treasures, and -2 a creature. Then use one treasure to sac those 2 new squirrels to make more. This is a pseudo infinite combo that lets you machine gun all of your opponents creatures and net treasure tokens because each cycle will make two treasures but only cost one. Its infinite until you dont have creatures to kill.
Old Gnawbones + Academy Manufactor. Swing with squirrels (especially if they are beefed up). Damage that gets through drops treasure tokens for each damage dealt by each squirrel. Each treasure token in turn generates a treasure, food, and clue token. Each of those triple drops in turn generates three squirrels. Rapidly multiplying squirrels.
Along with "Ogre Slumlord", add "Marrow-Gnawer" and "Thornbite Staff" in this. You tap "Marrow-Gnawer" > Sacrifice a creature > Proc "Thornbite Staff" which untap "Marrow-Gnawer" > Create X rat token for each rat on the battlefield. Infinity combo. Even if you only have "Marrow-Gnawer" and a rat token to sacrifice, you will create a new rat token... and a new squirrel. If you have 2 tokens before sacrificing though... It's goes exponential. Both "Marrown-Gnawer" and "Thornbite Staff" can be a little bit pricey (between 5 and 15$) but the potential is there.
LegenDARY SQUIRREL!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy this is a thing. Toski was nice, but Chatterfang cares about making squirrels. I've already made my Chatterfang deck, but this deck has some great suggestions I didn't think of. Thank you!
Hey This deck gets even better now that a bunch of new squirrel cards are out, like ChitterSpitter for example, every upkeep you can sacrifice a token to put a acorn counter on it, squirrels you control get +1/+1 for each acorn counter of chitter spitter and Tap it with one green and create a squirrel token (2 with chatterfang) so one to sacrifice next turn and one to deal damage with the buffs, got my army of 20+ squirrels at +6/+6
If theres ever been a deck for Maskwood Nexus, this is it. Produce a 2/2 on command with a 1/1 chaser. But the best part is now your squirrels can join in on tribal shenanigans. Ogre Slumlord? all of your squirrels got deathtouch. Find the scrill for a Tendershoot Dryad or Slimefoot, all of your saprolings can be sacced for one mana and they get anthem'd. Green gives you access to elves and black gives you access to zombies. Any card that can activate its own tribal anthem becomes a possible include at that point.
Even though it;s not the most powerful of sorceries, I would run Parallel Evolution iun this deck for the hell of it. WHile every opponent might double the numberof tokens they control, you get to triple yours with Chatterfang. I will be making a Chatterfang deck though, I have been wanting to do proper Squirrel tribal in Commander for a long time.
I am very surprised that Pitiless Plunderer isn't the golden pick. With 1 Squirrel and 1 Black Mana you can get infinite ETB (and death triggers) as well as remove all creatures. Use your Black Mana to sacrifice your squirrel, you get 1 Treasure from Pitiless which also makes Chatterfang give you 1 squirrel token. You can now use the treasure and the Squirrel token to do it again and again and again. And of course, Chatterfangs +X/-X is "Target creature" so you can target your opponents creatures and kill every single creature. Pitiless Plunderer is pretty much a instant win in the deck.
Some budget upgrades for this would have to include Ivy Lane Denizen, and two new cards Herd Baloth and Scurry Oak. Either of the new cards when played while Denizen is in play, you place the +1/+1 counter on Herd Baloth or Scurry oak. Then they make another 4/4 green beast, or 1/1 green squirrel which counts as another green creature entering the battlefield, so you get place another +1/+1 with Denizen. So you keep placing those counters on Herd Baloth or Scurry Oak, then they get infinitely bigger and spawn infinite 4/4 beasts or 1/1 squirrels. Fun times if you have was to give them all haste, or make use of them with Altar of Dementia or something like that.
I probably will just play the oak because without chatterfang itself there would be no squirrels and what even is the point then. Another somewhat budget combo would be nim deathmantle + deep forest hermit + ashnods altar.
I played Squirrels back in Odyssey. And now, I will build Squirrels for Commander and Modern. My token army will be plentiful and devastating, thanks to my 7th Edition "Coat of Arms" *chitters maniacally*
You forgot *Chitterspitter*! Its a green artifact that lets you put an acorn counter on it during your upkeep if you sacrifice a token, then it buffs your Squirrels' power and toughness by the number of acorn tokens on it. Plus, you can pay 1 green mana and tap it to create a 1/1 green Squirrel creature token (or two if you control Chatterfang). It's crazy! Other good cards to go into the deck are: *Squirrel Mob*, which can get huge really fast if you get a lot of squirrels on the field; *Ravenous Squirrel*, which gets bigger the more creatures or artifacts you sacrifice, and can give you card draw and life gain; *Squirrel Sovereign*, which buffs your other Squirrels (+1/+1); and *Nested Shambler*, which is a 1/1 black Zombie that, if you can buff him, can net you a ton of Squirrel creature tokens when he dies. Look into those, will you? Thanks!
Surprised this combo isn't talked much about but Butcher of Malakir. He's a 7 drop, but each and every squirrel Chatterfang sacs forces all opponents to sac a creature. You can control and clear boards INCREDIBLY fast with those two going off. And it gets around pretty much all kinds of protection. For a Chatterfang deck designed around death triggers, I also like Demonmail Hauberk. Equip cost is to sac a creature. If you don't have the mana for death triggers, you can just swap that around between squirrels as much as you want to kill them all. Hope it helps!
I think Pitiless Plunderer would work really well in a Chatterfang deck. You could easily wipe your enemies' boards while getting a ton of treasure tokens.
Well yeah it’s a 2 card combo that gets you infinite squirrels and wipe all of your opponents creatures. You can also start and stop the combo whenever you want
I messed up, it gets you infinite etb’s and ltb’s as well as wipe the board of just your opponents creatures. Can make infinite squirrels and mana with a doubling season though

Super old video to be commenting on but cards like nadiers night blade is great for this deck anytime a token you control leaves the battlefield you gain and life and opponents lose life and an infinite combo because of the release of the lotr set perrigan took with his double token creation ability makes chatterfangs decks much more terrifying, another great card is Epicure of blood which makes every opponent lose life when you gain life making falkreth noble and zulaport cut throat even more life drainers
@cak01vej Aaa I see your point, I guess it's all about opinion on whether it could function. Also I feel like maybe squirrels would have to be part of a different brew I guess. Like maybe a token deck focusing on squirriels, idk, it would be a interesting challenge tho to try to use this tribe then.
Chatterfang with Marrow-Gnawer + Thornbite Staff in the 99 (plus a few cards that make rat tokens, of course) would lead to infinite board wiping, plus infinite damage
Additional notes/ favorite card mention: Death’s presence can be remarkably powerful in a chatterfang deck. If you have six squirrels and a 3/3 and your commander, you can sacrifice six squirrels and turn your 3/3 into a 9/-3. With a total of 15 power dying in this action, you get 15 +1/+1 counters on another creature. If you use feed the pack on that giant creature then you would have 16+ wolves and 16+ squirrels.
Biowaste Blob becomes a huge monster with Chatterfang as is makes a token copy of itself as long as you control a commander and that is each one so you could have a massive army of creatures
@@TheCommandersQuarters I'm not counting that game, given that at my local game store thought it was a good idea to run Winter Orb in a casual commander game. Then accusing me of a misplay when I destroyed it, and cloning it with Mycosynth Garden. Petition to ban Winter Orb from EDH?
Thanks so much for doing these videos! I just finished the Codie/living end deck, and I never would have thought of using him that way! Please make a Baral, Chief of Compliance deck next!
I think Pitiless Plunderer would be amazing for a Chatterfang deck. It counts any creature you control. INCLUDING TOKENS!! That would be my golden pig for the deck.
Can't believe you didn't mention chitterspitter. It allows you to sacrifice any number of squirrels to lord up your squirrels for each squirrel sacrificed with it.
Dude I had thought to build a Squirrel jank deck if I pulled him but now I'm wondering if he wouldn't be at home in my Golgari reanimation deck! It makes lots of food, zombie and demon tokens he can make squirrels then make use of the tokens just totally unexpected! Also probably all you can afford to do with everyone scrambling to get a squirrel modern deck that works. Watched a friend fail at it yesterday because he mostly kept just trying to make squirrel tokens and food which wasn't terrible but against Infect, the new Selensya Enchantress Tempo and even some Aggro Gruul swarms was just too slow. I'm gonna show him this vid and see if it helps.
I think I would go Sultai with this theme simply because I would have access to Adrix and Nev, Essix, Orvar The All-Form, and Master Biomancer. Those three cards alone would turn Squirrels into uncontrollable nightmares. With the Biomancer, the Squirrels would come into play with at the very least two +1/+1 counters. Adrix and Nev would grant double the Squirrels. Essix, if combined with the right creature, could churn out an ungodly amount of Squirrels. (Just a thought, assuming you have both Essix and Chatterfang on the field, cast Avenger Of Zendikar. At the minimum, you get 7 Plant tokens with 7 Squirrel tokens. But using Essix, you turn those 7 Plant tokens into additional AoZ tokens, then you get an additional 49 Plant tokens with 49 Squirrel tokens instead. Adrix and Nev would double that to 98 Plants and Squirrels.) With Orvar, all you would have to do is target a creature you control with one of your own spells, preferably a token maker like Avenger Of Zendikar or Hornet Queen, and get a lot more Squirrels and whatever else. Keeping it Golgari, I would add in Fynn and Undercity Uprising. In short, give the Squirrels Infect.
I was told that whatever your commander is, mana wise, that is all you can run in your deck (in this case chatterfang is only green cost) so you can only play forest cards, or I was I told wrong or what is the ruling on that. I’m new to the whole commander decks and I’m having a blast and your decks have been very fun to watch, but any help would be welcomed
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t creating a squirrel token not double with chatterfang? Because if it did it would create infinite squirrels? In my opinion only non-squirrel tokens create the extra tokens.
My buddy says that you can only use cards in a commander deck that have related mana symbol's to your commander. So if Chatterfang is my commander how would i use black and b/g multi colored cards? Just learning commander.
It also counts the mana symbols in the effect of the card. In this case Chatterfangs effect cost 1 black, so if he's your commander your deck is golgari(Green/Black).
I’m surprised that Ivy Lane Denizen and Scurry Oak weren’t added. They’re both cheap cards and offer an infinite squirrel generator that can pump off of Chatterfang.
Can you do a deck build with Ghost of Ramirez DePietro and Tormod? I'm not personally used to those colors or kinds of decks so I dont know how to build one

Thanks for this video.
And people thought we were mad buying into I Hope You Like Squirrels!
Chatterfang with Marrow-Gnawer + Thornbite Staff in the 99 (plus a few cards that make rat tokens, of course) would lead to infinite board wiping, plus infinite damage
doubling season will be so crazy in this deck
Additional notes/ favorite card mention:
Death’s presence can be remarkably powerful in a chatterfang deck.
I pulled a Chatterfang from my box, so I'm real hype on building them
I'm thinking of Toski, Bearer of Secret-type cards would be good..
Now we just need that kind of power level for a Werewolf Commander and I'm happy
Hopefully a good werewolf commander will crop up this fall with the innistrad sets
Biowaste Blob becomes a huge monster with Chatterfang as is makes a token copy of itself as long as you control a commander and that is each one so you could have a massive army of creatures
Im really excited i pulled this guy im turing my lathril deck into a Squirrel elf
I know this is a big ask but a lot of people would appreciate a budget cube build
Wish me luck! I'm running this deck tomorrow with a few Phyrexian Domini
Good luck!
He’s getting a slot in my hapatra deck super excited
Thanks so much for doing these videos! I just finished the Codie/living end deck, and I never would have thought of using him that way! Please make a Baral, Chief of Compliance deck next!
everyone would assume its counter tribal
Beledros Witherbloom and Grismald are also 2 great cards to consider in the 99 here. Otherwise, great suggestions as always Mitch!
I was hoping for a squirrel tribal deck, but this one is also looks fun to play, thanks!:)
Well there are only 8 squirrel creatures but also 1 will be your commander and another is white so only 6 in the deck
@@Kristjan0209 yes, i know that, i was planning to use some UN cards and shapeshifters too
you have single handledly gave me a way to piss my friends off with squirrels.... thank youuuuuu!!!!!
I think Pitiless Plunderer would be amazing for a Chatterfang deck. It counts any creature you control. INCLUDING TOKENS!! That would be my golden pig for the deck.
Chatterfang is now the best golgari zombie tribal Commander
Get the green black dragon from strixhaven. Sooo many tokens
Don't forget Moldervine Reclamation, Spider Spawning, and Worm Harvest!!
Mycoloth would be better than VF, IMO. Also Grave Pact/Dictate of Erebos is really nice with the activated ability.
Heads up, Mitch! The end cards didn't show up for me. Just four white boxes.
You forgot about the scurry oak and ivy lane Denison infinite combo!!!!!
Truly nutty
Also play EDH started requiring that you pay them to play is kinda a turn off
i was thinking army of the damned would be a decent win condition card as well.
Can't believe you didn't mention chitterspitter. It allows you to sacrifice any number of squirrels to lord up your squirrels for each squirrel sacrificed with it.
Thanks dude
this was a great assist on my new elf deck im building
Great deck!
To access the black mana, would you need a mana rock access to black? Or could you add swamp lands?
Marrow gnawer makes this insane.
I just noticed the prices are gone. I think they have been for a while. Makes sense. They are so swingy these days they lose relevance too fast.
I feel like Grismold could be a good include. You get two tokens to your opponents one, and he could grow to lethal damage quickly.
Been waiting for this one
As a Squirrel at heart and a newer mtg/edh player, I'm super stoked for this ep!
This is nice and all but I fully intend on going full combo with this commander
You were told wrong. Chatterfangs color identity is Green & Black.
@@bradywarren2252 ah thank you kindly sir now its time to barrage my friends with squirrels thank you again
Posted within one minute of the mtggoldfish chatter gang deck. What a crazy coincidence
Or was it planned 👀
I’m on to you mitch.
I plan on making an enchantress deck with sythis as the commander. Hope you do a video on her to help show me some deck options.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t creating a squirrel token not double with chatterfang? Because if it did it would create infinite squirrels? In my opinion only non-squirrel tokens create the extra tokens.
plus nut collector and druid's call and squirrel mob/ any thoughts?
Army of the damned would be pretty decent in this deck too
Enter, Chaderfang
Aww, look at all the cute MURDER squirrels.
Imagine being gnawed to death by a bunch of squirrels.
My buddy says that you can only use cards in a commander deck that have related mana symbol's to your commander. So if Chatterfang is my commander how would i use black and b/g multi colored cards? Just learning commander.
Chatterfang has a black activated ability so his color identity is black green
It also counts the mana symbols in the effect of the card. In this case Chatterfangs effect cost 1 black, so if he's your commander your deck is golgari(Green/Black).
Thank you.
In a few months Bloomburry releases, with even more squirrel shenanigans.
I’m surprised that Ivy Lane Denizen and Scurry Oak weren’t added. They’re both cheap cards and offer an infinite squirrel generator that can pump off of Chatterfang.
14:06, but I'm not in the list :(
My lowest TCGPlayer market price is currently $2.94 for my Fifth Dawn printing.
It's always crazy to me how much more cards cost in America, our market average is about 1 dollar
Can you do a deck build with Ghost of Ramirez DePietro and Tormod? I'm not personally used to those colors or kinds of decks so I dont know how to build one
Making this deck!!
Very interesting concept! But isn't this deck as presented technically against the rules for commander since the commander only has green mana but some of the cards have black?
Ah nevermind, I did some more research and I see that the ability with the black mana cost lets you include black mana. Cool.
