Feist is the only singer that could perform with this band . I'm convinced of that and I think Hip fans would welcome her with open arms .Time to enter the next phase of healing .Let the poetry continue for the next generation . Gord would love that .
The Hip is undeniably the most under-appreciated magnificent band that ever was... I'm constantly amazed at how few people have ever heard (of) them... Damn they were amazing...
Since Gord's passing I can listen to Hip albums usually no problem. As soon as I watch any live shows I can't stop the tears. These guys have shaped me in ways they'll never know and I miss them.
If you watch Gord Downies live performances you will notice they are not always the same as the album versions. He tends to sing with A LOT of emotion in his music, as he writes the lyrics almost all of their songs. He is a lyrical genius and a master of stage performance. It's something you just have to get used to. When you delve into The Hip enough you'll come to understand why.. their music is so deep and makes you feel like you're in a dream but at the same time.. it's so real. Life like.
Was lucky enough to see him about a year before he passed. He was the best and I had no idea how important and timely those concert tickets were. I would have never forgiven myself if I didn’t go and things ended up how they did. One of the greats and he’ll always be missed. Too soon Gordie baby. 🇨🇦
Or… he’s a great lyricist with a great band, but not a great singer. Performance almost overcomes, but not quite. The studio versions were cleaner as better voice processing. At end of the day, his voice live was, well, bad.
@@rickroll9086 To each their own. I personally like his voice. By no measure was he a "great singer" maybe, compared to some other vocalists in his field. But I feel the lyrical content bonded with the theatrical performances he would put on placed this guy in a category separate from the rest. Again, maybe not from a vocalist standpoint.. but surely a songwriting/storytelling aspect, in my opinion. Anyways, I'm not a song critic. I just genuinely enjoy a wide variety of music and have always really dug The Hip. I stand by everything I wrote in my original comment.
My God that man was beautiful. He really put his heart and soul into his music. Every Canadian kids nightmare to get to the pond or rink and realize you forgot your skates. I love you Gord, RIP My son and I were at your Calgary goodbye concert. Cried my eyes out. God bless.
Absolutely, undeniably, emotionally moving. GD is Canada's best, history, music, wisdom and words. Had the privilege to see them a couple times, Ontario and Alberta. Beyond thankful, handkerchiefs and all. Much love, God speed, incredible band.
One of my recurring dreams is showing up to play hockey and forgetting skates or other equipment. Thought I was alone in that. Thanks Gord for showing me Im not alone.
Man i wish he was still ard making awesome music. Just so i can watch them live. When i was a teen i heard that they were going to be in winnipeg edge fest and went when the opportunity arised. Then it was just a rumer. That bummed me out. I settled for our lady peace and the tea party.
@vergedrums Boring? it's called evolution ... is he supposed to turn out the same type of thing from LP to LP ? Coffee girl is part 2 of a "trillogy" ... maybe it's time you grew up like the Hip did...
@@barbaramoore5070 did ya? Im a musician and ive used in ear monitors but id rather an old fashion wedge. Do we really know what having a pair of those in our heads hours a day can do to a person? All i know is Gord went far too soon. He is a true Canadian Icon and he's the only hero i have with white skin. All my heroes killed cowboys. Gord Downie was the real deal. L'nu without being actual L'nu.
@@paulj312002 Yes I did think of that. It’s like people wearing those things in their ears to talk on their phones…scarey. Gord truly is a Canadian Icon, and he is missed here on this earth, although he’s alive in every song that I listen to. Late bloomer, I am, to listening to The Tragically Hip. Once I saw him do the last shows for his fans, I was hooked…so in Gord I trust ♥️
I still love everything from In Violet Light back to '87. They're one of the few rock bands I listen to at all nowadays (the Rheostatics are another). I think they're just playing these huge places and Gord's trying to "project" all the time, whereas in a small club, the audience can actually hear nuances when one sings quietly. It's too bad, really, he's an amazing singer when he tries. I must say that I don't care for their last few albums anyway. I mean, "Coffee Girl"? Bore me.
What's with the growling guy? Isn't this the same guy who used to actually sing? I distinctively remember every line in this song being sung beautifully on In Violet Light! This growling crap needs to stop, it sounds terrible! And why is everyone but Gord fat now? These guys are resting on their laurels big time!

I took my wife kicking and screaming to see them in front of 1000 people at The Vic Theater! I agree with you 100%.

If I wanted the exact rendition of the album -- I'd sit at home and listen to the album. Thank god some artists explore and improvise at live shows!
r3s3t063 I have only listened to one album..all live videos..have never seen them in concert either in person.
They were better live. That only happens with true musicians.

that’s one of my recurring dreams.
Another summer coming up and another realization that there isn't an outdoor Hip show to attend. Makes a guy really sad.
What I would give to have been able to see just 1 show. Only found out about these legends in 2023.
RIP Gordie... You are SO LOVED!!!
Miss gord sooooo much

Probably gunna cry. Love the hip.
Exactly what I do randomly reading the comment section

Same
It's a great life, Gordie. We love you!
Wonderful from another great Hip album
Listened to this earlier
Awesome to to see this on a liver performance too - it’s the Hip
R.I.P Gord
Question: how many times in a row can you hear this song and decide it’s enough? I cant stop this one.
Gord Downey is now considered Canadian Royalty, just like Terry Fox is.
Don't ever weaken.
the studio versions are so much more gentle ...the live version bring an intensity that is unmatched
this version is so intense and good ...I almost cry !
grow-l somewhere we are needed (I feel this) ♥

You know this guy was real , not a stupid fake. He had balls , he had integrity. He really , really , loved and cared about things.

Gord Downie should be on our Canadian money
I wonder about those in ear monitors. He's the only one besides Fay that used em all the time.
I thought of that too….😢

Traggically Hip sing about the Canadian experience in a similar way that Blue Rodeo do.......always authentic.
I weakened :'(
