Working for free for about 2 - 3 years definitely helped me start getting paying clients as an engineer/producer. It may be difficult at first, but it does pay off.
Appreciate the advice fam. I'm a somewhat new producer and your videos helped take my sound to a new level. Still a work in progress but I constantly come to your page for advice and it helps every time. Keep spreading love and knowledge.
Being from a small town definitely steered me towards building more artists relationships, and trying to make the local talent sound their absolute best. Nobody really had money like that, maybe a few but it was cool. Having a person cry in your studio because they cant believe that's them coming out of your speakers is something money has never bought me... BUT!! I got bills and a baby girl now so yeah imma need that chicken 💸 this time around 🤣🤣🤣 Keep the dope content coming bruh!🙏🏾💯👌🏾
You just dropped this at the right time. I opened up 3 years ago and still have struggles to this day. But now I’m back at my drawing board again, so thanks Devvon.
Love your shiz Devvon! I’m a producer/audio/mixing engineer specializing in metal and hip hop/pop. Your vids helped me a grip with getting down the hip hop aspects immensely
Good advice Devvon the intern route know days have dried up to me when I started out in 99 you could get a few but what I noticed that they wouldn’t be any spot and that’s disappointing when you start out . But what I suggest you go outside the box like country music they need mixing and recording services work on creating niche that no one wants to do ADR work for Anime voice over great work no one told me about these other avenues always keep up the great work bro
I really love your content big brother, its been 4 years now and ive learnt alot. You are really great at explain things as well. Keep up the great work.
Bro! Great video and content! I been doing some of the things you mentioned especially the DM game! I'm working with Datin from Menace Movement now cause of this strategy!
This video is big facts! This also applies for songwriters and producers. Become an amazing engineer and you’ll be in rooms where you can then use the other tools in your bag. My biggest cuts came through exactly that!
I can not stress how amazing D is when it comes to mastering your craft especially in this field, where most people would like to create something for themselves and monetise it in return. Shout out to you D. You are amazing and I feel like you are so underrated for the amount of value you put in the content you give out for free to us. Shout out man one, you would probably be my best friend if you were my next door neighbour but again why not. 🙏🏾
Oh and Iv been following you since lockdown of 2020 the amount of knowledge and sound advise I have got from you is way better than most people in and outside the internet. Keep going man.
I'm from a small town and some of what you said is true but it is more to it. They have to be serious about also. Some people will try the free angle until they run it in the ground. No matter how dope you are.
Heck, I'm still developing my producer skills and mixing...but I'll take on the challenge of recording/mastered engineer. Do you do one on one consultant? Thanks in advance
Solid advice. I’m from ottawa Canada . I’m definitely gonna apply those. I have been trying to get more clients through word of mouth tho. But there’s not a lot studios that I would want to do an internship at. Maybe in Toronto. Anyway man good stuff.
The renting a studio sounds amazing but what happens when the artist doesn't show up and now you're left paying hundreds outa pocket? What's the counter to that?
Appreciate you and the knowledge that you giving out it always helpful thanks King I'm a recording and mixing engineer from PowerReality studios. We all We Got ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
Hi Devon, what do you do about security when someone new comes into your studio? I have one but what’s stopping people from stealing equipment etc say if you gotta go to the toilet mid session?

Next video on building a fanbase as an artist?
The renting a studio sounds amazing but what happens when the artist doesn't show up and now you're left paying hundreds outa pocket? What's the counter to that?
Yooo❤️💫
Appreciate you and the knowledge that you giving out it always helpful thanks King I'm a recording and mixing engineer from PowerReality studios. We all We Got ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
Hi Devon, what do you do about security when someone new comes into your studio? I have one but what’s stopping people from stealing equipment etc say if you gotta go to the toilet mid session?
Cameras and Kensington locks. Not a bad idea to keep a weapon in plain view as well.
If you’re charging an artist to record for 2 hours, is it up to you to make time to mix or do you charge for that as well?
Go above and beyond and then when they ask how much it would cost to do that again that's when you work out prices
@@HelpMeDevvon Gotcha, thank you 🙏
File > Save as > Jordan’s new shirt 👕 (might just be cheeky enough to win the shirt 🤣)
jah Blesssss
