My husband has always spent Sunday evening polishing his shoes for the coming week . He taught our son to do it and even I polish my boots to keep the in good condition
OH .... YES!!! LOVE, LOVE how you started your video ...... Good on you to take some time for yourself just to catch up and relax. Thank you for sharing. XO
Not even half way through the video and I felt compelled to comment! First, welcome back Ali!!! Good to see you. I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday and extended time away. Second, the cinematography of your intro was very well done. You've always had great intros but this seemed more "life like". Not sure how else to describe it, but I loved it. Those shoes are absolutely beautiful. I can relate re slippery bottoms. I had a pair of dress shoes with leather bottoms and almost fell backwards going down a flight of stairs rushing to catch a train. Luckily, I caught myself before I landed. To important lessons for me, don't rush to catch transit and don't wear shoes with leather bottoms anymore (bottoms without some kind of grip attached to them). I do wear my shoes down because I walk, transit everywhere. The only saving grace for the shoes I have now is that I work from home 4 days a week. If I had to go in everyday, my shoes would be beat (all the more reason to get them shined). Lastly, I was looking at the Hermes orange tie. I have to buy a suit and was thinking of pairing that tie with a navy blue suit. Ok, back to the video.
Happy New Year. Hi Ali. Honestly everything about you gets better with age. Seriously your eye for an emotive shot, clarity of the image, the perception of colour and the light is exquisite. Your clothing style has become so beautifully respectful of the craft of creating a garment . You appear more still, appreciating the moment , mindful almost. You are more comfortable in the frame and an absolute joy for this old tired exhausted nurse to watch and listen to at the end of a hideous shit. Thankyou so much xxxx Your eye for detail in life is impressive and has no doubt taken serious practice. You have always been easy on the eye, now your eye is easy on the world .
Love your openness towards new hobbies and skillets keeps the mind ticking over doesn't it. I particularly liked the shade of the dark olive Oxford bags, very nice.
It’s good that you had along break over the festive season, but it’s a lovely feeling to have you back. The video was great and I’m looking forward for the shoe polish lesson. Your style is impeccable ❤
I was a private school Girl and we always had to clean and polish our shoes every Sunday and it’s still something I do now . My husband is X army so his shoes are always clean and our son is in the navy . And his clothing is always spot on . I does make a huge difference and it’s a way to look after and care for your things x
Ali, your cinematography skills are so good. You are so talented! I so admire your dedication to learning new things and your growth mindset. Would you ever consider doing a podcast?
Dan the cobbler from 'Tring Shoe Repair' might help you with all your shoe related questions. For polishing technique, I feel Japanese polishers are absolute ultimate, artisan skill level and watching them work is amazing experience. It's truly artistic level elevated shoe polishing with annual national competitions. They take huge pride in their craft and so they should. Nice to see you are into it as well. XO
Careful putting an adhesive pad on your leather sole shoes - it usually causes the leather to deteriorate (moisture can get trapped). Instead, wear the shoes outside for a bit to naturally rough up the sole, and then use a shoe wax for protection and waterproofing. You’ll have plenty of grip 👍🏼
Ali can I ask does your physiotherapist ever pull your spine {neck} up to decompress the spine? I noticed he adjusted your neck. I’ve got problems with posture/neck but I’m afraid to have a Physiotherapy or Chiropractor session but watching this.. you take it all in your stride. It’s helped me think sensibly that I should go to someone. Thank you in advance.
Shoe shining and knife sharpening were things I have done from a young age it's super important to keep these skills going and pass them on to others especially children
Missed your vlog - happy you are back - you were missed - what about that beautiful introduction scenery- love seeing the morning walks & love love seeing the fur babies - my grandfather taught my mother the importance & the skills of taking care of her shoes & she passed it in to her 3 daughters
As someone who is 6'3, I look at guys your height and see how well suits seem to fit and how many options it appears (outside in of course) you all have. I have challenges also. One, is length - I don't like my suit pants flopping around at the top of my dress shoes. I also have a small waist, so it's hard to get the length and waist right, as a 34 inch length is the most common here. My thighs are kinda of thick, also. In America (generally) it's "big" and tall NOT tall and "slim". The former doesn't work for me. My preference is 31 waist, 36 length. And finding dress shoes my size can be difficult, because I wear a 15. I also like the narrower toe as opposed to the boxy American style. I've toyed with made to measure on several occasions, but have yet to justify the cost since I wouldn't wear it that often. Good luck with the shoulders mate. My rotator cuffs are torn (sports). I'm also hyper flexible. They don't bother me but I stretch them a lot and have gotten needled occasionally, which helps. My new sport of choice is swimming.
Dear Ali, I welcome you to discover the Italian brand Corneliani, their suits, and casual wear are impeccable - better quality-wise than Ermenegildo Zegna. Love polishing my shoes too.
Always warm up, always warm down after a workout. I had bilateral shoulder impingement a few years back. I didn’t have surgery, just physio. That was a long painful recovery. How are the bees ? Still in hibernation I guess. 👍💙👍
Your right it’s so easy to let it slip, however you can always rely on your body to hold you accountable when you don’t hahaha. Bee’s are still alive not opened them up yet still way to cold 🤞🏻
I am A nurse and one of the first thing I noticed with my peers is the appearance of their shoes. Soiled shoes are an indication of the quality of care they give to patients. Even worn shoes can be clean or polished. Unkept foot ware is an indication on how serious a person is about details.
You certainly have the right to your opinion. I respectfully disagree. Psychological theories are not always the same as reality. My opinion is based on my observation as a nurse over 30 years. Anyone who cares for anyone else has enduring qualities.
👃🥀I did a bit of research and learned that Perfume / Aftershave is best sprayed directly onto our skin so it doesn't mix with old spray on our clothes and layer up into weird scents. 🥀
Poor man is dwindling before our eyes. He's a shadow of his former self in every way. I wish he'd admit this bloody country bumpkin, dressing like your grandad nonsense isn't him and be who he really is. He's a young man in his 30's. It's sad to see.
Why don’t you ask PC physio what sort of proper robust physio rehab you should be looking at as opposed to focusing on short term passive interventions such as relentless massage sessions and manipulative treatments Read the evidence Paul! 😂
Epidemic sounds should be sued by the descendants of Erik Satie famous for his Gymnopedie No. 1, amongst other futuristic music for his time. Epidemic stole it and arranged it with orchestra. This has been done many times but most real filmmakers respect Satie and use the real thing. If Satie’s work is in the public domain, why not use it instead of an OK knock off? Listen to it. Use it. You’ll make all of your French fans happier! Gorgeous opening with the morning walks with the pups. Sorry if you take this as criticism. It isn’t meant to be. Am cranky because of dealing incredible incompetence around me. I want you to know Satie. He was crazy smart. And you’re very talented.
Breathtaking intro shots, inspiring new skillsets, beautiful new wardrobe pieces, great video!

It appears that private school was wasted on you.
Your hair looks nice as you have it now, longer on the sides.
Beautiful filmography at the start 😍
Good to hear your taking care of your shoes. I’ve had a shoe shining kit since I was a kid.
You must have a good routine by now then, I’m just starting my journey 😅
@Ali Gordon Journey? Mate, it's shining shoes, the most basic of tasks. Let's not turn this into something it's not.
Love the lighting around 18 mins!

Perhaps the man in the impeccable suit and scruffy shoes was saving his clean formal shoes for the office or visiting clients.
