my math teacher blabbered about this for about 40 minutes wit hstuff, that you shouldn't do and stuff, that would lose you points on your test.... This took me less, than 7 minutes time and I got the calculations from my book done... such huge thanks for that.
I don't get why I have to listen to my horrible teacher, when I can just sit my butt here, learn at my own pace, and actually understand this stuff! Thank you, RUclips.
hey in 5:58 i dont understand how did 5 become 25 did u multiply 5 by the denominator 5 if yes why didnt u add it with 33 pls help im currently failing on math
this helps me so much i am in 7Th grade and i am failing math and this is helping me raise my grade thanks so much now i know who to watch when i am failing.

Because -11 is x and 5 is y. In other words, you would graph x=-11 and y=5. Now, if the answer was 2/4 then you would reduce to 1/2 and graph either number and now that each point would be on the line. I hope this answered you question.
@uns33ntr4th They don't represent anything except that Y= Vertical line and X=Horizontal line. X and Y are used normally to represent unknown numbers, or as i told the axis.
OMG! I will have a quiz about this in the morning. You help me a lots, I love you!(just a joke^^) I think watching your video is better than reading my thick maths book. {p.s:I know my eng grammar is poor, sorry~ I still learning eng hard & hardly, orz}
Alright for those who didn't understand I've made a playlist with his fractions lessons, so go to my channel and you will see the playlist with his videos. But you will have to learn about equations as well so I'm gonna make another playlist of his videos about equations and equations with fractions.
I am a biology student, so i dont understand much of co-ordinate geometry, i was trying to understand this god damn equation for more than 4-5 hours. WHen i saw ur video, i didnt have words to thank you.......u r a life saviour!
Lol, why didnt he use that straight line tool to draw the axis xD Only critisism from me lol. My maths teacher will mark u a grade down if u hand in homework and its messy the slightest. Great video though! I was never taught this stuff in GCSE. Now i do A-Level maths, 2nd week and my teacher is saying we should have been strong on this from GCSE o.O.. Really dont wanna fall behind cause of the 'simple' stuff haha. Thanks for the vids man, your a real help!! !
@shinigamirenegade the 5 in 5-33/5 is the same thing as 25/5, then 25/5-33/5 is the same thing as (25-33)/5 sorry i cant do real fractions on my computer
i wish he would’ve explained why he only multiplied the numerator. and why it became 5-33/5. but ofc a full comprehensible tutorial is too good to be true isnt it
omg thank you so much! i had honors for algebra and my teacher doesnt teach me anything and i failed the math course so now i have to repeat again next year :/
i need to do this for my homework, please help!! A triangle has vertices A(3,-2), B(2,-14) & C(-2,-4). Find the gradients of the straight lines AB, BC & CA. Hence prove that the triangle is right angled.
He is making 5/1 have the same denominator to -33/5 (so they have the same denominator, and that means 5/1 = 25/5) thats why, at least thats why I think he did that
To find the equation of the straight line in any form we must be given either: two points, (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), on the line; or. one point, (x1, y1), on the line and the slope, m; or. the y intercept, b, and the slope, m. In the first problem, we were given two points. This guy was probably doing the rise/run equation to find the slope-intercept form. Not that it's necessarily wrong, just wrong situation.
I dont know if y = mx + b is American or just a different way of putting it, but I learnt it as y = mx + c . I also learnt m as being the gradient not the slope, are these the same thing with different names😅?
@sol0fate ikr i am horrible in math and i look down on myself because all the other kids understand immediately or i will understand but forget or screw up on a test.
my math teacher blabbered about this for about 40 minutes wit hstuff, that you shouldn't do and stuff, that would lose you points on your test.... This took me less, than 7 minutes time and I got the calculations from my book done... such huge thanks for that.
You taught me more maths in 6:45 minutes than my Maths teacher has taught me in two weeks. WOW! Thanks Khan Academy
So to clarify:
finding m: y2-y1/x2-x
finding b: use y=mx+b (but plug in m into formula & the x and y given already).
IndieGirl10100 Yes, and you can use either of the two points for the X and Y values, but you have to use both values from the same point.
2019 anyone ?
It has been 14 years since this was posted!!,

2020 here :D
Hey its 2020 :)
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH, I NEVER UNDERSTOOD THIS IN HIGH SCHOOL, OR IN MY COLLEGE ALGEBRA CLASS.
Thanks a lot! This video gave me a more intuitive feel for line-graph problems!
Oh man. Old school RUclips. Memories.

Yes I agree
bad quality, but a great help!

Today is November 22, 2020. This was uploaded on November 22, 2006. Crazy!
I love khan academy, but I cannot believe this vid was made in 2006!!! 💗Very crazy
Gotta Say Man, that Really helped, very easy to understand now, thank you
this helps me so much i am in 7Th grade and i am failing math and this is helping me raise my grade thanks so much now i know who to watch when i am failing.
KhanAcademy rocks in explaination. Old video but still the bes
best*
you should have explained more about how you were getting the answers but it was very helpful! thankyou
ily man simple video not long low quality bcuz it was 15 yrs ago but its unbelievably perfect
Khan Academy never fails to help me.
Thank you for uploading this, you have no idea how much help this is- I hope I don't bomb my math test! ^^
Because the line formula is "y=mx+b"
11/5 = the slope
-3 = a point on the line on x axis
Thanks 😊 Khan Academy!!!!
This video was uploaded 14 years ago, and now i am 14 watching it, wow

thnx so much! I forgot my text book, and have a quiz on this tomorrow!!!!!! So thnx again!
@aero1927 yes follow the equation y2-y1 over x2-x1 and you should get 2/3 as the slope hope that helps =)
hi, i would really appreciate if u made some of the hard math videos in bangla only with your voice over... thanks
Because -11 is x and 5 is y. In other words, you would graph x=-11 and y=5. Now, if the answer was 2/4 then you would reduce to 1/2 and graph either number and now that each point would be on the line. I hope this answered you question.

Video was uploaded 13 years ago wowwww
With the way you teach, 1st graders would get this.
Btw, in what grade should kids be learning this?
8th grade
Is there a video I can watch that explains how exactly he turned "5 = -11/5 (-3) + b" into "b = -8/5"?
I swear it’s mx+c
it’s interchangeable. really depends on where/when you learned.
its basically American
Depends on in which country you are
For me its ax+b lol
for me its y + x - m * (42 sqrd) * sqrt4
Lol, why didnt he use that straight line tool to draw the axis xD Only critisism from me lol. My maths teacher will mark u a grade down if u hand in homework and its messy the slightest.

I need this to do an exam of 10º, thanks
I think m and b are just random variables that people use. In Singpore we use
y = mx+c
@shinigamirenegade the 5 in 5-33/5 is the same thing as 25/5, then 25/5-33/5 is the same thing as (25-33)/5

Slope in Arabic is "Mayl" , hence m (meem) makes sense.
omg thank you so much! i had honors for algebra and my teacher doesnt teach me anything and i failed the math course so now i have to repeat again next year :/
Thx
@aero, are you referring to this line or if you have those two points and need to find the equation?
when you have 5= -11/5 (-3)+b and you go to 5= 33/5+b why do you multiply the -11 and -33 but not the 5? in other words why is it 33/5 and not 33/-15?
thanks, helped a lot.
wow i find this comment 13 years ago wow

thanks alot dude
what happened at 5:54 where did the 25-33 come from did you multiply the two fives/

Bro still hasn't got any help 10 years later
ok does anyone know how he got 25 towards the end of the video. did he multiply the 5 with the denominator of 33 over 5
this guys is hilarius.. "ah my fone is ringing let me turn down the volume" lmao awesome =D
I thought I was pretty smart when I already knew the formulas and answer! but I calmed down when I realized its simple eighth grade mathematics!
Where does 25 come in???????
He is making 5/1 have the same denominator to -33/5 (so they have the same denominator, and that means 5/1 = 25/5) thats why, at least thats why I think he did that
paige s im wondering the same thing
Precisely. In order to add or subtract fractions they must have the same denominator.
ok thx
I love you!! thank you!!!!
Bet you forgot about this comment
guys , I am good until 2:18 , it is equal to 2/2 , why is m = 1 ? , could anyone explain that to me :(
2/2 is one! it reduces!
Fahad Alharbi the fraction 2/2 equals 1 because 2/2 means 2 divided by 2.
He is obviously a troll, and you fell for it.
Fahad Alharbi
2 divided by 2 is 1
2/2 equals 1 because it's one whole.
how about the formula is different like this= m=Y2 - Y1 over X2 - X1?
IPlayergirl14 Gaming It's the same
IPlayergirl14 Gaming you just do it a little bit differently
Glory 🔥🔥🔥💝
hope you have fun!" really
I'm sorry but aren't you supposed to use Two-Point form which is Y-Y1= y2-y1/x2-x1 (x-x1) ?
To find the equation of the straight line in any form we must be given either:
two points, (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), on the line; or.
one point, (x1, y1), on the line and the slope, m; or.
the y intercept, b, and the slope, m.
In the first problem, we were given two points. This guy was probably doing the rise/run equation to find the slope-intercept form. Not that it's necessarily wrong, just wrong situation.
eeeee confusing
I was 3 years old when this was posted
Probably because people don't pay attention in high schools and teachers have to repeat themselves.
I came to watch this to revise for my moch exam.
I dont know if y = mx + b is American or just a different way of putting it, but I learnt it as y = mx + c . I also learnt m as being the gradient not the slope, are these the same thing with different names😅?
five stars arent enough i give u ten stars!
9 years had passed :< but imma watch this
on part two you added on one of your examples?... I thought you were supposed to add 25 +
-11 to get y intercept?
where did he get the 25 on 6:06
Come to my school and please teach my math teacher how to teach!!!
@sol0fate ikr i am horrible in math and i look down on myself because all the other kids understand immediately or i will understand but forget or screw up on a test.
Wow recorded like 12 years ago but still the second one when I search equation of a line
this video is older than my nephew
i swear sometimes teachers confuse me never tell stuff straight forward
At 5:57, what did you do to get 25?
here after 15years my man
I was 2 years old when this came out
I was a month old exactly 🤣✌🏻
can I use y=mx+c
Shouldn't 2 point be solved with two-point form instead?
I swear its y=mx+c
It doesn't matter, people put b or c or even y0 in this equation, All are acceptable.
yep 15 years old this video
nice video quality now i can seee clearly everything
Bro this was 17 yrs ago
I was in my mother's tum tum when this was posted. I feel kind of old.😂
That's okay sometimes I do too 😁
I was six around this post though 😇
does anyone know where he got the 33 from and the 25 from?
25 is from the LCM bro, --> 5*5/1*5 -33*1/5*1 = 25/5-33/5 = -8/5..
It has been 14 years now it is Covid time
