So the prime purpose of the economizer(s) is/are to lower the enthalpy, It does not in total reduce the compressor work, since even though the intermediate pressure injection into the middle stages does assist the compressor in work reduction, it is balanced by the energy required to get it to the higher pressure in the first place. Do you agree? On second thought the overall work of the compressor is probably reduced due to the increased isentropic efficiency due to the economizer.

Research on this shows the compressor work/energy used with the interstage economizer will decrease up to 12% in most designs.
