For anyone watching this year we have vr time trial now with all cars and tracks provided they have an interior view. Better to race your ghost than the shitty 1v1 a.i.
@@billygunn142 WHAT?! well fuck... that's actually bullshit! Removing features this late? What in the assbackwards fuck is this. If anything we should've got an option to remove the wheel in 2d or change our actual fov. Hopes are high for GT7 though at least... that Michelin partnership could bring some decent tyre models next time around!
The only drawback is that the mode is incredibly, almost unreasonably limited. It looks like they've only had so much time necessary to make it work at all. Hope this gets updated, a time trial mode is a must.
Leo Agree, a time trail, ghost mode would be great but a deeper grid would be the best, I also feel time was more (or focus) it may come we can all live in hope.
The entire game is limited. The online focus is weak enough but when you have to sit and wait in a lobby for a race to start goes against everything that gamers expect today.
Great review/commentary, THANK YOU. Although there is room for improvement I will NEVER drive a Ferrari or Lamborghini in real life but this feels pretty AWESOME!
Matthew Styles This is the modes biggest loss, I am certain more cars are possible so I hope they get to patch them in. It does look incredible in the headset.
I'm getting ever closer to buying PS VR since I already have a Pro and that new £350 bundle looks good value. GT Sport seems to be a very impressive VR showcase. I suppose with the limited power (in VR terms) they have to choose between lowering the visuals (Driveclub) or drastically cutting the number of AI drivers so I understand they compromise they made.
awesome channel , awesome analysis, also heard you will b appearing on a podcast soon , can u remind us what podcast it is , really looking forward to listening in,
I really hope a Time Trial VR mode will be added with a patch in the near future. I can understand a full grid race would be too demanding CPU wise, but a time trial would just be great and even less demanding than the one vs one mode they developed. Fingers crossed!
So glad I go the Pro after seeing this video. Been doing some VR time trial laps at Goodwood, reliving my laps there last summer when I spent an awesome day with the cars and people of Everyman Racing. While driving an actual McLaren 570s and Ferrari 458 Italia around the track was amazing, getting to go all out in VR is, dare I say it, more of a rush? I was gifted the F40 in GTS and I recorded my first laps at Goodwood but when I watch it it's not like the footage here. It seems PS only saves one of the PSVR screens, so it has red around edges and lacks the other eyes colors. How did you capture the footage so clearly? Thx!
Sorry for the slow reply. I feel your excitement as I agree it comes close to capturing some of the real thing. For capture I have direct access to the HDMI OUT before it hits the headset from a homemade cable. From this I split into the capture card and get both eyes. I then pick one, right normally, and unwrap it to a closer 16:9 view. Cheers
They say that this game would be the best Psvr game if it had more rival cars. I beg to differ. Driveclub vr would be a world beater with higher resolution and a sim mode. The tracks alone blow the boring gts tracks away. Dirt rally, although very good, can be a frustrating grind. Wipeout, although technically excellent, is curiously uninvolving. Only my humble opinion folks!
They really need to add a time trial mode and let us choose difficulty and lap amount for races. Surely hardware limitations can't prevent us from those features. No idea why they're not in the VR mode to begin with. That being said, GT Sport is one of the best experiences in VR. Shame there's not much to do with it other than short races with a useless opponent
I’m new to vr, so I’m excited to try this, drive club and wipeout. It’s a shame this game is more like a demo in vr. I kinda went all out with my tax returns lol, working on Astro bot right now, it’s so amazing. I used to be skeptical about vr and thought it was a fad like 3D. Boy was I wrong.
They probably did that to preserve the overal quality of the carsand tracks, but i wouldn't mind slightly doengraded visuals in favour of more cars on screen.
Indeed. Just a question: why does VR require more power to achieve the same visuals? I mean...we know VR games should run at 60fps minimum, but there must be other reasons since we already have amazing looking games at 60fps on PS4 (DOOM, SW Battlefront, etc). Most VR games are downgraded compared to the non VR versions, and apparently the only variable is the display/screen. Not sure if you get my point?
Realy good video and analysis, on the points of gameplay letting VR mode down I have to agree, but I would also like to simply see a time trial mode with results tables as that would certainly not have any negative effect on the visual resources used and it is a bit beyond me as to why this is not included already as it seems obvious that in a racing game you want to see what your time was vs the times of others. A one vs one online mode should also be possible without any sacrifice to performance, it seem like they forgot the explanation of 'what makes a sport' from their content that said a sport is competing with yourself or others, to the point that it feels like they have gone to sony 'here is your contractually mandated PSVR content; we told you it was not good enough for people to want it'.
SalsaKetchup Agree, the modes they could of added to point towards more a time issue/resource one than outright performance itself. Even a ghost mode from other players times and a lobby, as you say, would be a perk, we can but hope.
We can but hope, though I'm worried that Yamauchi's noted disappointment over the state of image clarity with PSVR will see him keeping any developmental resource away from VR as much as he can and concentrated in other areas. But I do hope that I turn out to be massively wrong and updates (or news of) to improve the long term game play of VR comes quickly.
VR will be truly explored on Ps5 with full fledged games being able to be played on it like Resident Evil 7. Just imagine every single racer or first person being able to be played on VR without graphical compromise etc.
This video gives hope of an upgraded VR mode for when PS5 launches. More CPU & GPU power should help them get more from the PSVR, it'll be still limited by resolution of the headset but should get better rendering of the assets
as an ancient gamer that didn't experience any vr systems yet, i can't wait for my vr to arrive so i can jump into one of those digital worlds. i don't care about shadows or reflections here and there... damn, by the time i had dukke nukkem on my saturn, if i could just strap a vr on my head and look around i'd die from overjoy...i guess i'll love the experience, since i don't expect a full triple a gaming type of thing... i just wanna feel on a 3d game enviroment, that much, from all the reviews i saw, i'll get.
Make a video anlysis/comparison of NBA 2K18 NINTENDO SWITCH (to know resolution etc), vs PS4 (PS4/PS4 PRO) vs Xbox One (Xbox One/ Xbox One X if when you decide to do it is november and the Console is out), vs PC. I Havent seen an anlysis of the Switch Version yet.
I’m hoping PD MAJORLY updates VR for the PS5 since it is both backwards compatible and MUCH more powerful. Stuff like more races, greater FOV, multiplayer, and a TON more time of day/weather modes.
Great comparison. I have a GTX 1080 PC but was not interested in VR till the prices dropped to $200. I only have a launch OG PS4 and was not sure if it'd be a huge downgrade from PRO. From what I've seen I think I will get my money's worth just to fuck around with (blurry, low res)VR on Gran Turismo, Wipeout and Resident Evil 7. I guess I'll get an Oculus or Vive when the 2nd gen comes out and they start dumping the old ones for $200. #cheapassgamer
been looking for such a comparison since the game launched... excellent customer service. so this seems to be less sickness invocing than DC:VR...great. is it the capture, or are the tracks, environment pbr, lighting and geometry turned down from the normal game? certainly looks like it.
TheJohdu Geometry I think not, but certainly lighting and material properties are toned back but much of that comes from the lower pixel count and thus accuracy. Still looks flipping amazing in action though.
question for nx gamer.i have a sony 4k hdr tv,but in gt sport options i only have prioritise frame rate graphic mode.where is quality mode?i activate on tv enhanced signals which suport 4k.
For driving games it would appear current gen does not quite have the power - 1v1 on GT Sport and shocking resolution on Drive Club for example. The Project Cars guys have steered away from it completely. Really good VR racing is going to only be viable on PC for now until the next gen consoles arrive.
if you pay attention to the other car you will notice that they, and sometimes yourself slide around a bit as-if lagging on a network game. I would guess that physics have been dialed-down quite a lot to be able to handle the additional processing that is required to handle the HMD's motion... Which, to be honest is not-too-tough, but the CPU budget was probably so tight, and with pressure to make sure it was the best visually... the physics just had to go. (more)... In 2D obviously physics can be offloaded to the GPU to handle the more parallel processing... but the lack of room to do this in VR also might explain why it is also just SO easy to drive in VR, and why they can't have a serious ghost / time trial mode.
If you already had the base PS4 and just got PSVR, would you drop the extra money for the pro version? I pretty much only got the PS4 for racing games like f1 and project cars along with my first wheel/pedal set up (thrustmaster t300/t3pa pro). But now that VR is compatible with some of the new games (gt sport and project cars 2) im wondering if it’s worth getting a whole extra PlayStation to have the higher detail in VR. And I guess if I ever get a 4K tv
Tough one, if you can get a decent trade in on your PS4 to Pro then yes, but brand new, no I would stick with your PS4. The differences are always harder to spot outside of a side by side analysis like this.
Problem with vr imo is how much you will sustain until headache...i have try them and tbh its not pleasant after half hour...they will need to work on that part

xGeoThumbs And they dig their graves on VR for waiting so much, they should have go Since the begining, THEY ARE FREAKING MICROSOFT, PSVR has sold more than 1 million VR headsets already Even after all the skepticism (best said Hate) people had with VR, Sony looked with vision and now they are market leader on VR Even more than Vive and Oculus.
Ya But the psvr headset is inadequate because of large pixals .yes that's the pink elephant.its like watching a HD video on a huge game boy screen.it just doesn't look good
I was so disappointed when I realised I could only race one car and not use the PSVR online... I find the PS VR and GT Series continuously disappointing me.
I hope they make a patch for the VR....We need full races & full game to include VR.....DRIVE CLUB had full VR.....Not this little VR section that gets boring so fast......
It's honestly pretty sad to see the state this released in. Yeah - They didn't make many graphical sacrifices, but in doing so they sacrificed the game itself. I don't expect they're ever going to patch or fix it, as much as I'd like to see that happen - I think they probably have a "That's the best we can do with the hardware" approach to it, where they made what they could manage with the hardware and trying to pump out a grid like you were suggesting just wouldn't be technically feasible on the original hardware given the lack of graphical sacrifices (keep in mind, Sony already stated that their policy on the PS Pro is pretty much only visual enhancements for the sake of not making the audience with 'normal' PS4s feel like their hardware is obsolete) - In other words, they'd have to go back and almost build things from the ground up to make a grid happen in this, 'cuz they'd have to find sacrifices that would allow that to happen. All that said, again: It's pretty sad seeing it released in this state. They actually took down one of the main trailers for the VR due to the fact that it was essentially false advertising since it showed VR with multiple cars. And, in all honesty, I really wish they would've sacrificed more in order to make it an ACTUAL GAME, rather than a little side mode that you just kinda' visit every once in awhile - More/less to me, it's just a showcase of squandered potential, not too unlike the other games like Tekken 7 where you're left thinking "Why did they even bother adding this?" I mean, if you're gonna' bother figuring out how to make it run in VR, why do you stop at the tech demo stage instead of actually making it work as a game. It's like running four miles in a five mile race and just giving up at the that four mile mark because reasons... I hope they make me eat my words with patches, I just don't see that happening...
I sold my PSVR because GT was not VR and bought an Oculus. I am now racing in VR with Raceroom and Project Cars 2. Fuck PSVR lack of proper racing VR simulator.
Have a fucking bit of respect for the first baby steps made in a fucking new gaming experience you uncultured fuck. With that said, i'll use my brains and wait till the console based VR experience has grown a bit.
Can't really agree with your assessment of the base game. I found it horrendously ugly compared to DC. I'd have prefered less cockpit detail to allow for better track detail.
NX Gamer a couple of the menu shots looked like they were recorded from the headset, the gameplay looks like share screen recording. The share screen naturally looks better so the comparison comes off as inaccurate anyway, idk could be wrong.
No, you are correct, It is the best way i can show it, the share-screen is based on left eye and a smaller section, I try and improve it here to give a better view of it on a flat screen, but still not a patch on using VR for real, thanks
NX Gamer ok thank you for explaining. at the time of my OP i was frustrated because im still using vanilla ps4 and trying to justify spending for the upgrade.

I was so disappointed when I realised I could only race one car and not use the PSVR online... I find the PS VR and GT Series continuously disappointing me.
Hmm it actually looks playable on PS4 Pro.
Thumbnail Car using VR? LOL
Yeah, cars need VR love too, :-)
Imagine GTA 6 VR
I hope they make a patch for the VR....We need full races & full game to include VR.....DRIVE CLUB had full VR.....Not this little VR section that gets boring so fast......
It was ruined by not being able to play the career mode in VR.. only arcade, few laps, 1 opponent :(
It is the modes single biggest weakness, but the aims of the devs were clear on what they wanted to keep, fidelity.
If gran turismo has sex with grand theft auto.... gran theft turismo
Switching over from Forza, its difficult to listen to the sounds in this game.
1:40 - 1:51 destroyed me
I wish assetto corsa would have vr
It would be best
Was you sick NX?
welshjay74 As in VR do you mean?
NX Gamer yes sick in vr?
So far my experience with gt sport in VR been awesome I've been able to stay in for hours on end and not get any kind of sickness
Is it just me or can anyone also see a huge difference with the pro.
Now test it out on the PS5 next. lol
POOKISTAN VII
You should be able to bring in your PS4 and pay $200.00 for a PS4Pro....
Why can’t they just make the AI better? So frustrating
Bring it to PC
Vr gamers should have omw lobby to play online with others. Vr tour is disappointed
VR vs 1 Player :D:D:D:D:D::D reminds me of PSX standards.
Ps4 pro has the power for more Ai but Sony is full of shit they saved it for ps5
1 vs 1 racing only? Fail.
It's not VR, only a limited demo is in VR. To me the GT Sport advertising is fraudulent false advertising.
Totally agree, VR support is a joke in this game. Going back to Dirt Rally, Project Cars 2 & Asetto Corse on my PC with Oculus...
I sold my PSVR because GT was not VR and bought an Oculus. I am now racing in VR with Raceroom and Project Cars 2. Fuck PSVR lack of proper racing VR simulator.
MarquisDeSang Sure man, whatever.
should of tried dirt vr :o)
Have a fucking bit of respect for the first baby steps made in a fucking new gaming experience you uncultured fuck. With that said, i'll use my brains and wait till the console based VR experience has grown a bit.
Game doesn't look like this IN headset, dont be fooled it is very low res and dim.
Rivals? WTH are you on about? You mean opponents?
There’s plenty of rivals, project cars1-2, raceroom, iracing, assetto corsa.. and so on.
André Eriksen in VR on ps4 just DriveClub
1vs1 vr was the reason i didnt bought the game and probably will never buy because of that... im very dispointed
Can't really agree with your assessment of the base game. I found it horrendously ugly compared to DC. I'd have prefered less cockpit detail to allow for better track detail.
Xbox have a vr LOOOOOOOOOOOOL WHERES THE XBOX PORTABLE?? LOOOOOOL
Sharescreen! This video is already misleading... smh, later.
What?
PS4 is more convincing then Pro because there wouldn't have a huge crowd to watch only 2 cars racing. =D
Wonder how the ps5 gonna look with this game 👀👀👀
Thanks I won't buy this crap, I will stick with DriveClub VR
Paying an absurd price to have a product of such low quality may not be worth it ...
