I have some tips for three of these tracks that might help if someone's stuck on them. And a tip at the end for you to try, Lewis.
Cortex Castle: There's a way to get a bit more reserves to work with. The boost pad that gives you blue flames actually extends further than it appears to; the wooden ramp is actually part of it too. Since boost pads add to your reserves each time you hit them, hitting the same one twice will double the reserves it gives you. This is one of the few tracks that this is actually useful for. as soon as you hit the pad and get blue flames, jump and you'll hit the wooden ramp and get an extra boost. Admittedly, this isn't much, but it helped me hold onto blue flames longer than I had before.
Deep Sea Driving: The turns and the blades are the killers in this track. I was able to get rid of one of these concerns by switching to Acceleration (I usually play Speed). At first I did do worse on the track, because I wasn't used to the sharper turning. But once I got the hang of it, I no longer got flung all over that darn pipe at the end. The blades are still difficult to get around, but the turning helps. ALSO: the last two blades. I found the easiest way to handle those was to jump and U-turn right before them, so that I was going through them head on, instead of at an awkward curve.
Out of Time: This is another case of a different class leading to an easier time. I don't know why, but Drift class made it easier to maintain blue fire when hopping over that fence. This could just be a personal thing, but I've seen other people saying the switching to Drift helped on this track. If nothing else, it's worth trying. This, in my opinion, is the most technically demanding track in the time trials (though that title will probably go to Drive-Thru Danger when the Beenox times come out).
Hot Air Skyway: This one's just a tip that might help Lewis. Try drifting up the ramp towards the barrier and jump (as you do in the video), but don't start your U-turn until you've cleared the barrier. It may take a few attempts to get a feel for how far to turn, since you'll have less time to do it. But I've found this to be the easiest way to take that shortcut consistently.

      @the_verTigO 4 года назад +3

@@WumpaLewis At the fence shortcut in Hot Air Skyway I do something similar. While I do start the U-turning right after jumping I let go of the brake button halfway through so I'm facing the fence straight on and after I've cleared it I press brake again to do a second U-turn while still in that same jump. The whole thing is basically a ] motion.
(I do this too in some of the later parts of Electron Avenue.)

    • @IanRB26
      @IanRB26 4 года назад +6

      Yeah these are good tips.
If I can add some things,
Cortex Castle, when you go over the BF pad, instead of trick jumping off it, drift boost off it and continue drift boosting in the air. It will help build up some good reserves.
Hot Air Skyway, when you're coming to the final hairpin, try to be more to the middle of the ramp (if you have BF) and point your kart slightly to the right (away from the ramp) before you jump. Then when you u turn you won't overshoot the landing.
And yes, Drift Class holds reserves longer than all the other classes. So if you're bad at reserves, this class is the best bet. Plus it has good speed and good turning which is equally important.

I cracked a code with Deep Sea Driving....
If you hold blue flame etc. so you're pretty much with neck and neck with velo, or slightly better, the gap in the blades are always at the bottom by the time you get there.
Secondary point, I had an epiphany realising that once you're in the tubes you can just hold acceleration and multi hop to each of the turbo pads (which keeps your blue flame reserve) and basically coast through to the turbo pad at the end there
General tip for you Lewis too is... sometimes it's better to drift boost off of turbo pad jumps without jumping at all, especially evident in Hyper Spaceway, to keep the blue flame in again in the laser tubes or through the portals you simply start a powerslide before the ramp and let gravity get you across while 3x boosting mid-air, often I'd hop into the hyper laser tube (especially online) and lose my blue flame (Now I tell myself "idiot" whenever I hop)
Also, I reckon all the Dev Times will be equal or worse than Out of Time, I find it incredible you beat nearly all in

Hey, just some advice for sewer speedway:
    - If you can be somewhat consistent, learn to look at your time when you pass the barrels. They are always in the same place at the same time so you can predict where they will be each round.
-Hit the shortcut the straight on every time. Your jump will get boosted and you'll make it 99.99% of the time.
Hug the walls in the last "sewer" section ( after the second barrel) you save like almost a second per lap.

On Deep Sea Driving, I found out a way how you can stop hitting those damn forsaken fans in the tunnel and its quite simple, once you enter the tunnel, drift around the first corner and when your drifting around the corner, half way through, jump/hop and continue drifting. I don't know it does it but that small jump allows you pass the fans without hitting a single one even the double ones at the end, you still need to control your kart but trust me its easier.
By doing this method I beat Emperor Velo's time by 10 seconds and yes, doing this method works on all laps.

I've said my piece on Blizzard Bluff, but Spyro Circuit comes close. I only just crossed the line milliseconds before Velo.
I seem to struggle with the simpler tracks where blue flame isn't available. On tracks like Cortex Castle, Polar Pass, Drive-Thru Danger, Out of Time, Oxide Station, Hot Air Skyway and Twilight Tour, Velo makes mistakes that are sometimes your key to victory.
But tracks like Crash Cove, Sewer Speedway, Coco Park, Spyro Circuit and Nina's Nightmare, he's practically perfect and even the slightest mistake will greet you with a one-way ticket back to the start line.

Nice list overall, I like the fact that there was a bit of variety compared to Oxide's Time Trials.
As for me, here's my personal list from my experience with beating Velo's Time Trials:
    1. Dragon Mines
    2. Out of Time
    3. Deep Sea Driving
    4. Drive Thru Danger
    5. Nina's Nightmare
(Although Drive Thru Danger is mostly hard cause I still haven't learned that map properly yet)
As for honourable mentions I do in fact have a few of them.
    And they are:
Papu's Pyramid, Turbo Track, and Sewer Speedway.

Now that I think about it, I think that Turbo Track has the potential for being one of the hardest Beenox times, both Oxide and Velo aren't doing too good of a job at that triple hairpin section, but an actual good time on this might prove to be VERY difficult :p

    My top 5 is:
    - Deepsea Driving
    - Crash Cove
    - Sewer Speedway
    - Out of Time
    - Gingerbread Joyride
I finished beating them all yesterday and it was a good challenge, it definitely pushed me to improve on some tracks and figure out some new strategies, I'm both looking forward to and dreading the dev times coming out next month, it'll be interesting to see if I even got close to some of them because on some tracks I beat Velo by a fairly large gap (like around 20 seconds or so)
Also for that last turn on Hot Air Skyway what I do is move a bit towards the right and when I make the jump I hold the U-Turn all the way until I'm on the ground, sometimes I jump a bit too much from the left and what I have to do is jump again when I land and for a split second I'm actually off the track on the right edge and then land back on the track while I'm still U-turning, I know it sounds confusing but it's what I figured to have a high success rate at clearing that section because most of my losses at first were because of that.

Papu's pyramid was the one I lost my mind on. BUT, sewer speedway barrels have patterns. I don't remember them out of memory, but if you go from one of the sides and succeed, it'll be the same on that lap always. Just do the same trick if you have to repeat.

Currently stuck on Out of Time. I somehow managed to completely fluke Deep Sea Driving on the 3rd attempt by avoiding the blades each time, but I doubt I’ll be as lucky next month lol. Pro tip for speed mains: switch to drift. It’s so much easier to build your reserves and the extra turn really helps.

    1) Dragon Mines - Mastering the shorcut was tough and took me 2 hours to beat this. Every time I tried U-turning on the spiral, I fly into the wall.
    2) Spyro Circuit - Annoying stage hazards and losing sacred fire. 1 mistake and you fail. And getting used to speed wasn't easy (as I main acceleration & balanced).
    3) Deep Sea Driving - The blades.
    4) Hot Air Skyway - The spiral and keeping blue flame with acceleration or speed.
    5) Cortex Castle - The spider before the bridge messes up my drift.

I did the majority of the tracks with drift class. Even though I always used speed since I started playing. But I've read drift class is really good on alot of tracks... well that was the best advice for beating these velo times. It was so much easier as trying to beat them all with speed class.

    5) sewer speedway (had to pray for the barrels to not hit me)
    4) hot air skyway ( had to learn how to use drift engine in this track)
    3) oxide station ( keep BF until the finish line is a hell)
    2) cortex castle (seriously, keep BF around those corners is almost impossible)
    1) gingerbread joyride (took me 30 minutes to beat this one)

  • @Sodor156

My top 3 worst were (#3) Cortex Castle (like you said, maintaining blue fire on those turns is a nightmare at times), (#2) Koala Carnival (I had to stay on the inside the whole time, those jumps by the fire traps can kill my speed, and I only beat him by about 15 milliseconds) and (#1) Out of Time (it took me 45-50 minutes to beat). Deep Sea Driving did take me a few tries but I was calm about those as opposed to the 3 I mentioned.

Tip for Cortex: Double tap the blue pad. Drive onto the pad and hop to hit the ramp. The ramp counts as a blue pad despite visually not being one. DOUBLE THE RESERVES. My friend says 8 seconds.

For the shortcut at the end of hot air skyway I think the issue is with the way you're u-turning, at least by looking at these clips.
When your kart rotates mid-air like that without actually changing trajectory it usually means that you're pressing left or right on the d-pad but not down at the same time.

I'm just about to defeat all of Emperor Velo's ghosts as well, only Electron Avenue and Hyper Spaceway remaining, and I've been beating them all as my dude Megamix. It's really funny, I used to have an absolutely frustrating experience just beating all of Dr. N Tropy's ghosts at the time I just began playing the game (which is merely two months ago), which made me actively avoid Nitros Oxide's times for a while... until after some time I decided to try them out and was surprised at how suddenly easy they mostly felt to me, and right now even with Velo's I was able to get through them with mostly little issue as well. It became clear that I've been getting better at this game and I haven't even noticed, to the point where there were tracks that I long dreaded doing these times the most on initially but overcame surprisingly quickly in the end (like Assembly Lane or Blizzard Bluff). That being said, as for my own 5 choices as to which tracks were the hardest to beat his times on:
    5. Deep Sea Driving - Same reason as you... and pretty much everyone else. Seriously, unpredictable obstacle movement is a major annoyance no matter what.
    4. Spyro Circuit - I find the track in terms of structure to be annoying in general and Oxide's time there tested my patience quite a lot, but Velo's time here really came across as a perfect run I was asked to do, though it weirdly didn't take me half as long to overcome than Oxide's time.
    3. Out of Time - I should have expected something tasking when Velo's ghost is 33 goddamn seconds faster than Oxide's, and with how much I was tasked with keeping the blue flame under these circumstances I got annoyed relatively quickly. Though shockingly I do feel like I took way less attempts than you... I don't know, just a gut feeling, I don't really count losses, I just accept them.
    2. Nina's Nightmare/Gingerbread Joyride - I put them in a tie because I had essentially the same annoyance with them, what with the absolutely demanding blue flame speeds and lengths that were expected of me in these corner-laden tracks. And because Oxide's times alone on them were so frustrating to me, these two tracks especially were the main reason I chose to go after Velo's times in the Bonus tracks FIRST before going after CTR's and CNK's, just to get this shit done with.
    1. Dragon Mines - Only my Number 1 because this was the first time where I felt like I've hit an actual roadblock in overcoming Velo's times (Again, I finished the Bonus tracks before this) due to my absolutely horrendous turning with that dumbass spiral. A close call was truly the best I could have gotten out of it, and it's really telling that a close call is the only expected thing when the developer time afterwards is mere MILLISECONDS faster.
I definitely won't bother with the developer times. I suck way too much for them.

A tip to become a much better player!!
if you remap L2 with down on the d-pad in the accessibility menu and have L2 always pressed while racing. U turning is made so much easier and you’ll become 2-3 times better a player within an hour.

If u had trouble with cortex castle i advise to jump at the blue fire turbo pad once. It will double the time that your blue fire stays, should make it easier for you to keep it on the track.

If you don't know how to U-turn then use the turn engine. It'll be easier for you to drift through the tunnel and just air brake to prevent hitting the fans.
Learning to U-turn does help a lot as it got me a time of 1.39.60 on deep sea driving.
You don't have to know how to U-turn though as using the drift engine for most of the trials will give you more reserves meaning that you'll have more reserves when air braking with a drift engine as opposed to a speed engine.

I read a post on reddit that hitting the blue fire pad on cortex castle (so driving over it and then jumping to hit it again) actually gives you a lot of reserves, I tried it and it actually seemed to help, but that might be a placebo idk. But it wouldnt hurt to give it a shot to see if it helps

    My Velo shit list:
    1) Deep Sea Driving. Yep, I think this track is loathed by almost everyone, and for the same reasons.
    2) Out of Time. All you said is true, this track is very hard to keep Blue Fire on, and there are a lot of invisible walls.
    3) Gingerbread Joyride. There's just too many 90-degree turns which are a Blue Fire killer. And also, one of the hardest-to-take shortcuts in the game.
    4) Cortex Castle. Every player has a track they suck at, and this one is mine. I don't why, I'm just really bad at it.
    5) Spyro Circuit. Velo does an almost perfect run on this track. One tiny mistake, and you're out. There's very little room for error, unless your mistake was near a turbo pad.
