My husband of 45 years passed away 3 years ago and we did EVERYTHING together. I’ve been having a hard time getting motivated since his passing. I wish everyone could have a wonderful marriage like you and I had. Thanks for keeping us updated. 😊
You have my sympathy and are in my heart. My husband and I have been married almost 47 years and he just retired. At my age every day is fresh knowing it could be one of few or one of many. 🩷
Great to see you guys again. Excited for the duct work to get closer to being done. Looks super professional and even mesmerizing in a way. So shiny (like my personality). Reminds me, I need to change the filter on my car...that is long overdue. Probably helps, too, that you cleared up the debris in the kind-of basement as well. It makes SUCH a HUGE difference. And that's an amazing and important point about how couples worked together in the old days. Because it's sad to see the stereotype of men being domineering and commanding the wife. Obviously it was a real thing and definitely more prevalent(?), but, like today, there are good relationships and bad relationships and there were plenty of good, sound ones. I mean, I've seen advertisements from the 1950s aimed at working couples! Yes. That was a thing even then. Hope this doesn't sound too soap boxy or whatever the opposite of woke is. It just pains me that so many people have a one-sided view of history. Let's call out the bad, but let's celebrate and even learn from the good of the past. Learning from history is a two-way street.
My grandparents had an open cistern in their basement. It was huge, about 10x6x6. The house was an old wooden farmhouse that they had moved to a free lot from a few concessions away, and was over 100 years old in the early 1930's when they bought it. It's still there, which is wonderful. We have a concrete capped one in our backyard that's even bigger (10x10x8) that used to fill from the downspouts from our house. Not in use anymore, and covered by a deck. At some point, we're going to need to either fill it in or get it removed. Right now it's easier to just ignore it! 😉 Wonderful to see your update, and even better to see your faces. Cheers M & J... Marian 🇨🇦
Looks good. I don't blame you for not filming. But i did miss seeing you both. I checked a couple times to make sure i didn't miss a notification. Stay cool, have a great week. 🤗❤️🤍💙
You are BOTH brave to get under your house. All I can think about is snakes, spiders and humidity. It’s been 100 deg. for the whole month of July in my NW town and I do not have AC. Ceiling fans, floor fans and spending all my time in the lowest level is depressing. I’ll take our subzero winters any time. Like you, it has been impossible to do yard work in the hot sun. Your stereo business sounds very interesting and I can tell you are excited about it. Stay cool! 🆒
Summer will break in a few weeks and we can all get back outdoors. Vintage audio is the best, and my new project captures the vintage-ness very well. :-)
So good to see you guys!!! Glad you got your project completed and it looks fantastic!! Hopefully you’ll have heating/cooling in the upstairs very soon!! Love to you both!❤ See you on the next video!!
So glad you two are back!!! I kept checking to see if a video was out and nothing. Glad the HVAC is coming together. You two are a great team. Nothing like accomplishing a task together especially when it’s a huge task. Look forward to seeing you next week!!!
I enjoy your channel so much!! Yep me and hubby have done alot of remodeling together and still together after 42 years! I am very interested in your new business. Please keep us informed of your progress! Thank you!
Wow, I designed and had my plenum built for out house and I, thought that was so complicated, my husband, is a wounderful mathematician but it took us both to do measurements and install our furnace, we where in our 20s. You too work so well together. ❤ we missed you both.
These ducts certainly are challenging. I scrapped a couple of them because they were way off, but we finally got it right. Kudos to you two for attempting such a project!
So good to see you two again! I kept checking your channel, just to make sure RUclips wasn’t hiding a video from me. You’ve certainly done a great job with the HVAC!
Good to see you back and doing well - though incredibly busy! Everything is looking good! So important to keep cool & hydrated. Good luck with your coursework!
Wondering where you’ve been. Glad to hear that all is well. Heating and cooling an old house is definitely a challenge. Your new venture sounds interesting.
Glad to hear your 1st phase of the HVAC project is completed. Not filming is not a big deal, but a little note on the Community Tab to let us know you both are fine would have been nice. I’m a huge music fan so I’m patiently waiting for more information on the stereo project. Are you going to do that in your ‘spare’ time? How much spare time did you have after working full time, taking college courses, working on the HVAC,& house projects, woodworking, and the stereo project?! It might be time for a mini vacation or something similar; just some time to rest and relax! Hugs, Doc❤
Remodeling, renovating and repair is a very time consuming endeavor. I do think folks underestimate the amount of time and energy required to do all the necessary steps to completing one project and adding filming, school and life in general can get in the way of the progress. I always enjoy the visits but know first hand what it takes when we decide to take on all a remodel entails. It took Hunny and I 14 years to remodel our retirement cottage and as we all know we are NEVER really done if we own a home. Wishing you every success as you share bits of your world with us. Good luck with school as well as your new business adventure. Until next time…!!!:):):)
On TV, they completely bust down a house and have it put back together in one hour. That never happens in real life! :-) We hope you are enjoying your retirement cottage. See you soon!
It’s good to see you guys back. I can understand your reasons why no videos. I’m sure there was so much to do working under the house with those ducks n ect… in this hot n humid weather let alone trying to film. That’s too much for anyone. It’s getting closer n closer for the job to be done. Mike, I think you’re awesome doing all of this yourself. Just think the money you’re saving. Happy I hear your businessThe is doing well. ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👍🌟🥰
It was rough for a few weeks, but we pushed hard and got the system back on before the heat wave. I don't know how the Southerners managed before electricity.
Here in Maine, heat pumps are popular for heating and cooling ..is that something that might be a bit easier for you? Enjoy seeing you restoring your beautiful house🤗
It's about the same amount of work, except a furnace requires gas. For some reason a heat pump system (condenser, air handler, and ductwork) costs more than an AC capable furnace (condenser, air handler with burners, ductwork) even though they have less equipment in them.
I'm glad you're back and everything is fine in your world! We missed you but assumed you were busy and would check in when you could. Congratulations on finishing the first part of the HVAC project! I agree that it is best if both people help out with projects - marriage is a partnership first and foremost, and having two minds (and more hands) is always beneficial for a project! Take care, friends!
Missed seeing you, but so happy to know that you have that horrible part of your project behind you and that you are one big step closer to having a comfortable and usable second story.
If you wish to kill tree stumps, some natural things you can use to help get rid of the stumps are holes drilled into the top of the stump, then pack the holes with either salt or Epson's salt. Both will cause the stump to dehydrate and decompose. many copper nails are said to kill tree stumps too but that is expensive with the cost of copper now a days. One other way I have heard of is by packing the holes drilled into the top of the stump with baking soda and then pouring vinegar over it.
The most important thing is both of you are doing well and misbehaving yourselves . It’s more fun but takes longer to recover after 35 . Be well and great job as always 😊
Welcome back! I thought you were trying hard to finish the a/c and just unable to do any filming. Didn't think that you would have gone back to achool with two classes. I thought about how hot it would be under the house and wondered if you were doing a little each morning. Our heat indexes over the past month have been over 100° with horrible humidity and I wondered how bad it was in SC. Have you thought to put a fan (or 2) in the attic while you work? Sometimes just moving the air helps a lot especially over or behind a bowl of ice. 🥵 😊😵💫
Hi Vickie! It was miserable under the house, stifling air, heat, moisture and dirt! We came out of there looking like we'd been rolling around in it. Well...we kind of were rolling in it.
Yes! Another woodworker!! :-) Sometimes you just have to practice your craft wherever you can. Then dream of the day when you can have a dedicated workshop...
Do you work on stereo equipment? I have a 1988 Kenwood equalizer with a channel that is not working. Electronics are not in my wheelhouse. It was working, we moved down the road, set things up again, and it only puts out half of the volume. If you don't take on extra work (I know you're very busy with school, home restoration, your own business, etc.), do you have any advice?
I have worked on several stereos over the last few years, all of it vintage gear. Before any repair work, you should check your cables. Try jiggling the connectors while it plays and see if the problem gets better. We like to try the simple things first. :-)
@@1834RestorationHouse, thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely try that. 😊 I just saw your reply while preparing to view your latest video. The router advice is appreciated!
Kurt, a sump pump would keep that thing emptied out, but I want to give it a good look over to see if there's some way to stop the water from coming in.
Hi! What if future owners of the house want to make the fireplace usuable, make a fire in it, not knowing those gas lines are right next to it? The house would explode. right?

I lost my husband 7 months ago, same story. Enjoy each others company.
Four years ago for me and after 45 happy years together it is still hard. It’s lovely to see how much this couple loves each other and works together.
Our hearts go out to all of you for your losses. You're part of the 1834 family!
You have my sympathy and are in my heart. My husband and I have been married almost 47 years and he just retired. At my age every day is fresh knowing it could be one of few or one of many. 🩷
It is very difficult, it don’t give up! Go out and do something, even if it’s small, do something everyday. Prayers for you.
Great to see you guys again. Excited for the duct work to get closer to being done. Looks super professional and even mesmerizing in a way. So shiny (like my personality). They were smart in the way they used to collect rainwater. They closed in the foundation at some point which traps the moisture under there.

As always, a real joy to see the work you have been doing. You give us all the incentive to fix up our old houses. Take care.
