I love victorian homes. You are fortunate to have such a beautiful one. I lived in one (built 1893) in San Francisco for 30 years. The woodwork was redwood but was faux grained to look like oak. The fireplaces were functional but difficult to build a fire in because they were originally designed to burn coal. The lighting was originally gas lit so every ceiling had a plaster medallion in the center to catch the rising soot. The double parlors and the dining room had oil on canvas ceilings complete with cherubs and butterflies. The Victorians loved rich saturated colors which were susceptible to fading so the windows were often covered in heavy drapes. Hence, cut crystal, gold leafed frames, polished silver, etc. were popular to help bring in some sparkle (as would brightly polished door hardware). I think the idea of replicating the urn ornament to make newell decorations would look like they were always there. Wishing you and your husband all the best; you'll gave a lot of fun making it your home.

Wonderful! Thank you for the house tour, it was very exciting to see all of the rooms. In my mind I decorated my own future home. The last owner has a dark humor for leaving you the sceleton and the horses. I thought it was hilarious but I can imagine that not everyone would be excited about that :D I'm looking forward to see how you decorate everything and congratulate you for a dream that came true. I hope you had a nice yule and thank you for the Pagan Happy Hours. I always listen to them on my Saturday morning walk and it has become a very nice tradition. Greetings from Germany!

Christine's house is gorgeous from the outside, I want to see the inside. She has a double front door that is really beautiful-I heard the reason why they were designed like this was because in the past they would hold funerals in the house and these type doors would accommodate the casket. Considering its Christine's house now, it's kind of fitting isn't it LOL!

@@icemancometh8679funerals were commonly held at home... all homes in the US at the time. But yes the doors

OMG. The second of my favorite RUclipsrs to buy a new home. First there's Rachel Makesy with her New England farm compound that's so gorgeous and her studio will be in one of the old barns on the acres of forested property they have and now Scarlet who's gone from generic apartments across the southwest to a BEAUTIFUL Queen Anne home in Savannah!! 😍😍😍 Congrats. Old houses such as yours with its traditional wrap around porch (I'm glad you noticed the haint blue porch ceiling, I'm about to paint my porch ceiling haint blue as well in my cottage - we pagans tend to worry about things like discouraging ghosts 😁 ) need to be rescued and celebrated for its old touches. I love pocket doors, SO convenient and space savers to open up areas. I love every single part of your home, even the scary attic and all the interior windows to let in light. I like the one in the pantry as well. The stained glass is just gorgeous. A good sized yard would have been nice (I'm thinking Practical Magic), but nothing is perfect. What I've found difficult about old houses (my cottage is nearly 100 years old) besides all the mundane thing like not up to code wiring, inadequate outlets and places for modern appliances, rotting floorboards, and toxic things like asbestos and lead paint you invariably find, is that the original planners didn't plan for beds and couches or the scale of modern furniture. Few rooms have a wall without windows or interior doors. Like your bedroom. I saw two walls with windows, a wall with a door to a bathroom, a wall to the hallway and a wall with a door to a closet. I remember thinking - where are they going to put a king-sized bed? Still I would totally enjoy the challenge of making such a beautiful home a castle. Have fun. You might think about starting a 2nd RUclips channel on your home renovations. I'd watch it.

This is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen. The long leaf heart pine throughout is phenomenal. The fireplaces will serve as great altars. As for the painting on the wall … it’s got a great wooden boarder … you could paint it a flat colour and make it a mirror with a bunch of broken mirror pieces OR commission someone to change the painting as it is a cool feature. Keep as much of the iron hardware as you can. The stained glass window can be repaired … you may want to encase it in glass only due to the placement right above the loo. The Hobbit Pantry & 2nd pantry are perfect storage space. If you can try to save as many doors as possible. Sand them down to see what’s on the other side of the black door or red door. The office is super bright and would thrive with a bright colour with warm tones. The yellow of the master could be lightened and matted and would look lovely in your office! The tiles on the fire places & Cast iron protectors are fab! Love the emerald or forest green choice for the master!!! You could do a baroque style wallpaper in the master bathroom. My jaw is basically on the floor as I watch this house tour!!! Dream house!!! I just renovated a home almost exactly the same as your home. The comfort and holiness is adorable! The breakfast nook/patio upstairs is beautiful!

Wow! My husband and I are closing on a victorian style home this week, also built in 1905. We are on the eastern shore of Virginia next to a historic railroad system. I'm so excited to have stumbled on your channel because this is exactly what I'm looking for. The layout of our home is VERY similar to yours.
Speaking of weird things... the previous owner of our home died in the house last year. She had a wedding dress boxed up for a wedding that didn't happen and the box was left in the upstairs closet even after the estate sale. And our upstairs attic has names carved into the beams dating back to the 1940s and 50s.
Can't wait to see your home updates!

    • @lindsaydavis4796
      @lindsaydavis4796 11 месяцев назад

@@icemancometh8679 It was built in the 1820s-1840s. When we moved in there was what looked like a gravestone under a tree. It always had flies around it. Dad took it away but we had the feeling he shouldn't have. Our house was the only one in the neighborhood that was swarming with bats around the chimney . No matter where you patched it up, they always got in. Things fell off shelves, walls, and broke. Doors slammed. You knew you put something right where you'd left it and it would disappear. You tear everything apart looking and go back and it's sitting right where you knew you put it. I started to see a woman in an old fashioned wedding gown but her face was blurry as if fog. I was little, but I asked my sister who was in high school about it, she got quiet and said yes but figured everyone would think I was lying. The next thing was a dark shadow. It snuck in my room and outstretched its arms I ran through it screaming. Nobody believed me, except my sister and grandma. We had a wood stove. Well cared for. My parents worked 3rd shift. Me and my sister were alone. Everything was OK with it when we went to bed. I wake up to Dad screaming "Are you ok?!!! Can you hear me?!!!!!" Every window and door is open. There's smoke everywhere. The stove somehow got to 900 degrees and was backing up smoke in the house. Had he not gotten home, we would've died. You'd hear footsteps on the stairs and yell for someone and nothing... more than once we saw something staring between the stairs railing. I was shoved down the stairs on Christmas day. A gas leak happened later and had my dad not stayed in the car and called the gas company, they told him one flick of a light would've blown up the whole house. It was always complete chaos and bad luck. Fighting, debt, cheating, my sister running away. Both parents tried to commit suicide several times. Finally it got auctioned but nobody stays long, if they do, they seem to face losses.. sometimes deaths.

This is a beautiful house! You are so fortunate your fantastic wood was not painted! That would be tons of work if you had to strip paint from it. There is tiger oak on the two downstairs mantels! Just gorgeous. Pocket doors are part of the Victorian lifestyle, but for anyone not stuck on the modern "Open Concept" idea, they work fine for today. They were used to close off the formal reception rooms to keep them clean for guests, but also to conserve heat in the winter for rooms that weren't used everyday. The pocket doors could be opened to allow for people to mingle when they had larger parties, and often two parlors were opened up for dancing. And then my favorite part: opening the doors to display your dining table, all set with china, candles, and flowers for your first big dinner party. You seem like a kindred spirit, and I'm sure green and red color combinations in wall paper and paint schemes will look terrific. You'll want to check, but I think your fireplaces would have been coal-burning, if your house is in the south, and they have those black iron fire box covers. Hope everything is working out for you. You seem really sweet.

I clicked on your video because your house looked amazing. I subbed the minute you said Yule lol. I'm also Pagan. First, your house is truly amazing!!! I can't wait to see what you do with it. Basements usually creep me out but yours didn't. Second I will definitely be watching your other videos as a fellow pagan. 💖💜💖

I would get a big sculpture (like a simple human figure) for the front entryway that can be decorated and adorned for the many different pagan holidays and festivals that reach across a year.

I was thinking of a bronze bust of a favorite patron god/goddess or household spirit for the bannister. It can be decorated with head wreathes or other adornments for the seasons or holidays.

Omg, I would rip that plastic bag off the skeleton to have a closer look! The horses are scary tho... 😅 I love Victorian houses, especially all the wood details and fire places, glad to hear you are not painting it! Natural wood is totally underestimated! 💚 And, I vote for old style wallpapers EVERYWHERE 😍

Wow!!! That is the most amazing and stunning house. You don't have that much work to do in my opinion.so spectacular! How fun it will be to decorate for all the seasons. Definitely needs period looking lighting ,some grand chandelier's .please continue to show us the progress on this grand lady. Oh! An emerald bedroom sounds enchanting. I cannot get over the beautiful metal works of art on the fireplaces.a show stopper of a house.

Enjoyed the tour! Was expecting a back staircase, no? Love your youthful enthusiasm. Reminded of myself in 1978 when my partner and I bought an Arts and Crafts home in a Michigan city. We spent years returning it to its original condition and style with period furniture. After 35 years we sold it and moved to south Florida. The new owners had apparently watched a lot of HGTV. They knocked out walls, ripped off the kitchen porch to make room for parking, painted the fireplace brick, etc. I have two suggestions for your garden. I was able to grow American holly in my yard; Old Heavy Berry. Should grow well in your area. Very compact, pyramidal growth and in early spring, the cedar waxwings ate every berry. I also made a stone circle. I brought the stones to Florida but the options of seasonal plants were much greater in Michigan. I have pictures if you have an email.😃

I absolutely loved the tour of your Victorian home. Thank you for sharing the interior and your restoration dreams. The unpainted woodwork is amazing! It is difficult, however, to imagine the real beauty without a few exterior long shots of your new home to compliment the interior. Who is the architect? Thank you for the upload---I really enjoyed your vid!

I'm glad you have this home. It's nice that you appreciate the character and history. I'm guessing the ghosts in the attic will be more likely to be friendly if you don't throw away all their horses. An old home's list of repairs is never done, and most take more time and money than it seems they should, but I believe it's worth the effort, so long as you take it in stride, which it seems like you are. Congrats and I look forward to the next tour.

Gorgeous house!! I once owned a similar one in St. Paul, MN and loved it! Please don't throw those horses out without checking their value online. (Besides, your ghost may not remain friendly if you throw out his toys. LOL)
