Most people would have just put their forge on a metal table and called it "good enough!" But, no... ya just got to build a contraption! :). Five skulls to this video!
I've been drawing up plans for a propane forge stand. Yours incorporates everything I would want and more. Excellent project.👌 It's given me inspiration
Skully doing the work of a good apprentice. Solid build cap and that dead man is the bee knees for sure. I look forward to learning more about this gas forge of yours.
Brett that turned out very unique and BadAss design. Really like that tool rest, that fits you perfectly. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend forge on. Can't wait to see ur next video. Keep showing this amazing craft of blacksmithing off to the world.
Thanks for the video Brett. Excellent production as always. Well fabricated with good ideas. Yes I did notice the slipup with the chain. Keep safe and stay well.
I just bought that forge, modified my stand and lit the forge. Because of the scrap I used to make the stand, it must weigh ten times as yours. Very nice job. I really like the doors for it.
@@skullandspade I knew it was a reach but I had hopes your video title was a reference to Napoleon Dynamite. I believe I have misspoken.... (Sad ladybug)
i love how these videos start out, "imma just throw some scrap together' then morph into "ive been thinking of these details to add for months"!!! love your scrap bin work, and all the little details built it to make the tool even that more usable!! great work Cap't
Man, those are some kind words. I do think we'd all benefit from the "what can I make from scrap?" challenge more often. Force yourself to use your cut-offs, no matter how "useless" they may seem.
I truly enjoy watching how your mind works when fabricating, lots of inspiration to be found in how you problem solve when making all the components of the build. Nice work Brett, came out great!
Very neat an tidy build. Enjoy watching your processes for creating your things. Really getting things ship shape round your place great job. 🙏 blessed days and well wishes sirSir Crawford out 🧙♂️
Cool video. Great engineering and design on the stand. High level of detail and function. That micro bandsaw looks handy. Love how tools are getting smaller/lighter. Mahalo for sharing! : )
That is one fancy piece of kit there Captn'! The artful execution of the sliding deadman and the pedal operated door are truly wonderful. Excellent work as always sir! As an aside - I would wonder if you would revisit some of your work thus far to see how some ideas have fared and what changes or improvements you've made since you've had a little bit of time in the shop now.
Another great build, Brett. And I thought I over built things. "I need to build a stand... so let's add a million bells and whistles!' LOL But seriously, excellent!
@Alecsteele struggled with the lift gate, made his very complicated. I wonder if your idea would work for him (scalded up for his forge size). Love this video like all of your other ones. Your editing is on point
I've heard as much from other comments. There's still some tweaking to do as far as the pivot point ( I may need to extend to the front of the counterweight/handles) for easier lift, but it sure works well for what is a "simple" solution.
It would for sure. The aim here was not only building with what I had on hand, but overall, keeping the cart as "short" as possible. In an ideal world, I think the axle would be directly under the tank, but that would have raised the whole thing up quite a bit. As it stands now, what I lose in mobility, I gain in "once its in place, it doesn't want to roll/move"
Bahaha, I love it! So many clever little things. I love the crossbone tool rest; that was a stroke of genius. I love how you can make something functional and artistic at the same time. Out of curiosity, what prompted the change from coal to propane? Cost?
You're not wrong, although I wanted to keep the whole thing as "short" as possible, with larger wheels. Which means axle + wheels + tank height = one tall stand overall
It sits pretty cunning indeed! lousy brown coats. i understand the practicalities of this forge, but are you planning on retiring the coal forge now that you have this?
I thought about your lack of power issue with regards to a shop fan. What about a low cost solar panel setup? The panels are around $150-200 for about 100w version. Add the battery and some wiring... You could have your fan, led light, and maybe even enough juice to charge your ryobi batteries?
Most people would have just put their forge on a metal table and called it "good enough!" But, no... ya just got to build a contraption! :). Five skulls to this video!
We are most definitely not most people ; )
Someone show this to Alec Steele. He could learn a thing or two about forge doors :'D
My thoughts exactly! 😁
Skully is always there to lend a helping hand.
Yes...yes he is
Always
You cut a better circle with a grinder than I do with a hole saw...
hahaha! Same here
Hahahahah!
Portable forges are really handy but all on one cart is awesome.
I'm pointing right at it..
Great build captain.
Behind the scenes: Jess said that, had to.
Looks great, with many well thought details. That foot operated door is a great idea and the style on the dead man is spot on, of course.
Aye aye
Truly the Carlsberg of forge stands
Come on...it's at least Scrumpy...Steve says they're the best
@@skullandspade if you try to drink it I bet it would be scrumpy but otherwise it's probably the best propane forge stand in the world.
A great addition to the ship shop. It looks proper weldricht.
Thank ye
Brilliant. Working of forge door is genius. Very well made forge stand with pedal👍👍👍
Thank you as always Gurvinder!
One person couldn’t handle the ingenuity.

Who did what now?
Got this forge after seeing your instapost. I’m digging it.
It's surprising me so far. The gate and door is making the heat pretty nuts.

Very cool. Congratulations on the new forge. I love to see where your mind takes things.

Digging the fabrication and problem solving on this. top work as ever! (bonus points for skulls!!!)

Fantastic work... I learn something with each of these videos... thank you!
Well good!

We sure try Brett
I see steel burritos in your future!
Most ingenious work Cap'n!
😃👍
I really like the accessories. Plenty of space left for more as well I think.

Well this is inspirational for my new forge!!!!

I am very excited to see what you'll be making with such a cool forging setup :)
Me too!
Awesome to watch your shop come together!!
Thank you as always sir!
Straight genius build.

That's a fine gas forge stand, Cap'n. Built square and stout, it should serve the ship for many years to come. Great video and thanks!!
Thank you Cheesy!
This is in my future for sure. Stand, forge, steel boney hand. Excellent build Cap. Every feature well designed.
Hellyeah! Get to it brother!
This is a great build Captain. All the little bits are simple but the whole is an elegant solution.
We're all about the details
Very cool Brett ! Top notch editing as always ;)

As always amazing craftsmanship Brett, just wondering if it would’ve made it easier to move if the tank was closer to the axle?
It would for sure. The aim here was not only building with what I had on hand, but overall, keeping the cart as "short" as possible. In an ideal world, I think the axle would be directly under the tank, but that would have raised the whole thing up quite a bit. @@skullandspadecool, makes sense, I knew you’d have a good reason 😁. thank you for clarifying. Keep up the great work 👍
Nicely done ✅🤗👍 question for you. Did you get electricity at your cabin yet? Just wondering!
Not yet Bob! Still rattling through paperwork.
I might be borrowing some of that, since I'm finally building my first forge and need it to be movable 😜❤
Do it!
Cool forge my forge is similar
Good deal
Well done! Love the door mechanism. Did you use an abrasive or diamond wheel to cut the refractory brick?
One of those diamond masonry blades.
Bahaha, I love it! So many clever little things. I love the crossbone tool rest; that was a stroke of genius. I love how you can make something functional and artistic at the same time. Out of curiosity, what prompted the change from coal to propane? Cost?
Not a change, just an option. Both heat sources have their benefits. I'll probably put a video together discussing it.
0:13 - Made me legit laugh put loud.
Plus your deadman rest was d-o-p-e!

Great build only fault i can see is the axle would be better off under the gas bottle to ease movement.

Love that build, AWESOME deadman. Great little forge, where'd you get it? Keep up the good work.

Wow great job but what was the time scale on the build??
2.5 days? Give or take. We don't have a ton of daylight to work in these days, so those are maybe 6 hour filming days.
