I once played bassoon (long ago) and recognize this as some VERY clean playing. Nicely done. Piazzolla wrote a number of absolutely wonderful pieces with this probably the best known. But it's worth seeking out any of the others. Libertango has been arranged for all sorts of instruments and groups and a good example is the Canadian Brass (who did four Piazzola pieces). Doc Severinsen with the San Miguel 5 also played it. Tine Thing Helseth (renowned solo trumpeter) played an arrangement with a full orchestra. It's all over the place. Piazzolla's personal instrument was the bandoneon, a type of concertina.
This is absolutely brilliant! The first time I heard the tune was in the 1980s, too, with Grace Jones singing. Her version was trendy, at the time, and catchy. It was certainly good. Your version blows hers right out of the water -- and I have great respect for Ms. Jones and her music. Thank you for giving us an entirely new take on this wonderful song. This version is truly timeless. I hope you'll be recording other "Bassoon Quartet / Quintet / Sextet Pops" for us. "Bolero" is over-done, but I'm confident that you could come up with an arrangement that would standout from the crowd! Of course, the list of songs that would sound very good played by a bassoon ensemble is endless. You are a very talented artist. We appreciate your sharing your gift with us. I wish you great success, even during this unfamiliar time of the pandemic.
A wonderful achievement; excellent paying on bassoon and contrabassoon, very clear, crisp articulation, superb timing, too! Bravissimo, Anthony (and the production team, too!).
What’s this professional doing with less than 1K subscribers? Excellent performance, recording, and editing. I know I could Google you, but would you want to share in the comments where you play in ensembles?
This is really GREAT. I arranged this for my youth orchestra (Sinfo-Nia) last year. I also conducted it for Urban Strings of Columbus, OH Youth Orchestra at its summer camp last year (2019) as well. I love the Grace Jones video of this as well (the "live" one). I hope that you are holding bassoon camps and workshops.
Anthony you probably don’t remember me but I stopped you after the 11/17/24 Nightmare Before Christmas performance you conducted and took a picture with some other friends. I love your work!
Anthony Parnther Can't you do a Bassoon version of Lift every Voice and sing? It'll keep things rolling during the Lockdown cause none of us can go on stage.
Came here after seeing you conduct "Can you Hear the Music" by Ludwig Goranssön. The comments are calling you one of the most amazing and precise conductors they've ever seen. Found your page, and turns out you're also an expert bassonist?? Amazing. How long have you been playing the bassoon? And what would you say the role of a conductor is in an orchestra? I'm new ot studying orchestration and am striving to understand. Anyway thank you for this great music!
3:14 what's that instrument middle bottom? It doesn't quite look like a contrabassoon, and I don't believe the subcontrabassoon has a working prototype yet
Just keep putting in the time. Also, start experimenting with different reeds if you aren't already. For example, if you are buying (not making) your reeds, you might get a "medium soft", "medium", and "medium hard" from your favorite brand to experiment with. As you develop, you should be able to play somewhat stiffer reeds which will probably get you a richer tone. A thin weak reed tends to move the tone more in the direction of a kazoo. As you improve, you may find it advantageous to make a few changes to the reed with a little clipping and scraping. And if you have access to an advanced player, see if you can get them to give you some first hand advice.
Listen to Illinois Jacquet play “Round Midnight.” He also played “Caravan” on bassoon but I believe these were his only recordings on the instrument. I agree, I would love to hear more bassoon in jazz.
Love it! I went to high school with Anthony
I do believe I've found my favorite woodwind. I have to say this video was edited together in a very pleasing way

This piece feels so good on bassoons. I love it, I want to play it very badly.
If you love it, I should think you would want to play it very well.

Thanks and that was both excellent in inspiration and performance.
Brilliant!!! 👏👏👏👏thanks for making my morning sing.

Just incredible! That performance had nothing more to give, just fantastic!!
I'm reaching for my dance shoes and pushing the replay button shortly after that.

I really enjoyed this. A great piece so well played! Amazing, Anthony! I especially liked the higher register passages. What kind of bassoon is this?
Any place I could find the sheet music? Love the playing

It's a specific model of low A contrabassoon; it's just got the low A in addition to being a normal contra.
Very hip interpretation of the melody
Can i have a sheet music?
Excellent job! Do you have an email I can contact regarding your bassoon work?
Скинь ноти будь ласка
What kind of bassoon is he playing at the very end in the lower middle
it’s a contra.
@@LivFallon13 3:14 lower middle, thats just a contra? what kind?
It sounds so good, too bad I sound like a duck with my bassoon
Fortunately time is on your side; give it a couple years and your tone will be noticeably better on any instrument

Супер!Браво!!!
The dance of the burping bedposts.
Makes you wonder why the bassoon has never been adopted as a jazz instrument.

Because they cost 3k more than baritone saxophones.
if aliens ever learn about us then i hope this is the first thing they learn about us, that this is a thing we do.
or that this one guy does
